The Power Spec lofts are something else. 42 degree PW?

Exactly. Ridiculous. My 2 iron is the same at the "4" iron in this set.

And that matters why?

If it has to be explained then it's okay.

A 42 degree club is a 42 degree club and is going to go as far as you hit a 42 degree club. Why do people get so upset whether 8, 9, or P are engraved on the bottom? It's completely irrelevant to an informed buyer and completely irrelevant to a scorecard.

hot damn... one of the best post on modern iron lofts discussion. well said :)

Ping now needs to take the G700 and squeeze it into the size of the G25 and then you might have me. I'm calling G500 right now.

110% agree. I'm not a great golfer by any means (mid 20's handicapper). When it came time for new clubs, I couldn't even force myself to go with the GMax. The GMax was so large that it was distracting and I get this same gist from the G700. The G700 is a beautiful club - I'd love to see Ping make a G model out of it. I think they'd have a winner with the G700 design and G size.

It's not "douchey" to be turned off by intentionally misleading marketing that appeals to one's vanity. I dare say it is douchey to rail against folks who expect spades to be called spades.

By saying "intentionally misleading", that connotates that if the buyer realized they were intentionally mislead, they would not be interested in the product. My guess is they wouldn't care in the least, so why do you?

I don't know... it seems in some of the reviews, the testers actually prefer the look of the G700 at address. I think it is worth giving a try - I am. For what it's worth, I use Ping G25 right now at around 10 hdcp.

These irons have me interested. I currently play the IE1 irons and was set on the P790. I would be very interested in doing the retro lofts on these irons. IMO I believe the G400 irons were a flop (I personally hit them and hated them) and that there was a demand for a different feel and look from the previous G irons.

I went to my small local golf shop yesterday to look at the G700 in person but they didn't have them in yet. I do like the look of them better than the G400. I would like to see a bunch of comparable pics between the G400 & G700 just to see the difference between the 2. It's great to see pics of new irons / clubs that are due to be released but it's hard to put them into context without showing pics for comparison. According MGS they do mention the soles being slightly narrower than the G400 & that's a plus for me.

I do like what someone else mentioned though...If they take this design & just shrink it down I think a lot of people would buy it. If enough people let Ping know that's what they want they will make it. Ping really listens to their customers. I think that's how we ended up with the G400 Max driver according to a few sources I've heard from.

As far as lofts of the irons go I'm really indifferent on that. I know it's a real hot button topic for some people but I really don't get too hung up on it. If the lofts offend you then don't buy them. I know I'm going to give these irons a demo though.

I'd have to disagree. I've played Pings (and others) for 30 years and I can't think of a G series iron that has flopped. When you say you "hit" them, did you play a few rounds on a course or did you just hit them at a store? I will admit there is not a ton of difference between the 400's and the G's. But there isn't a huge difference between the 400's and the G2's I played 13 years ago.

A ‘one length’ 37” 3 iron with 21 degrees of loft isn’t going the same distance as a 39” 4 iron with 21 degrees of loft, not to mention peak height/spin/launch/decent angle will all be completely different.

But you are right that some golfers care too much about the number on the bottom.

I just hit them during a ping fitting on a outside range on terrible grass so maybe that's why

I just took golf up again after a 5-year layoff and got fitted for Callaway APEX or TM P790's. I particularly like the 790's. I am interested to see the G700's in person given that the current offerings by Ping all seem a bit large, but if these not only look like P790's but perform like them it would be nice to have another option to dial in and possibly add to the bag.

It is odd to cross-shop the 790's with these because they are different clubs. With that being said, I want to try them both as well. The G700 should be a little longer and possibly more forgiving that the 790's at the expense of the size of the club head.

Will they be forged?

I have always liked Ping (I use their putters and usually float between them and TM on my Fairway woods and Drivers), but I think you are right that they tend to be a bit bigger which visually is a bit off-putting for my eye.

Same here. I currently use Ping G25 irons and I like them. I will never kick out of bed a more forgiving club which has me intrigued by these. I want to see one and swing one badly to know if these should be on my short list. I am a point and shoot golfer so not looking for a shot-making or players iron.

I think that if Ping did something like these in a head the size of a G400, or slightly smaller, they would have a real hot product. I am currently playing some Titleist irons (Ping driver and fairways), but I would make a switch. I hit the Titleist C16 6-iron at a fitting and really liked it. The problem was that they would not sell me one or two irons - I had to buy the whole set.

Guess it depends on the player but I'm going to order the 5 iron with a Recoil 95 for now and see how it goes. Probably have them add 1* of loft so there's not so much gap between my I200 6 iron power spec

Contrary to popular belief, the majority of golfers don't care if a iron is forged or not and Ping knows it.

That was more in regards to Pings penchant for experimentation and going against the status quo in terms of their clubs (performance above all else).
