Matt Kuchar - WITB shot @ 2018 Valspar

Anyone else confused how he plays iomic grips? I felt that they were always really small and would need a ton of tape to build them up to a decent feel especially since he loves to play tennis!

He will play those J15 CBs until the iron puts the ball into the hole for him.

There really isn't a better feeling, forgiving Player's CB ever made. Mine aren't going anywhere.

Really want to try his arm lock putter as well

I’ve got this past years studio style which is very similar to the older model 1/2, although nowhere close in feel. I’ve also got one of Matt’s old putters supposedly and it’s got a different offset than any OTR I’ve seen. It’s clear what he’s using now is another change, it’s way shorter on his arm than I’ve seen in the past.

Wedges from three different makers. Nice touch. And different shafts in his 2 hybrids.

Am I right in saying that his setup as shown is:

Driver

15* 3w

17* hybrid

20* hybrid

5i-pw

52*, 58*, 64*?

Putter

Because that seems to leave a pretty big gap between the 20* hybrid and the 5* (assuming the hybrid really is 20* and the 5i hasn't been bent strong).

edit: Just checked. The 5i's standard loft is 25*. Stronger than I thought. Anyway, Kuchar seems to know what he's doing ;)

3 wood is set to C1 setting which would mean it is 14.25.

I still can't believe he plays 60 stiff in the driver. It's not like he is a short hitter.

Only 106-108mph driver swing speed... he's pretty short compared to the majority. Love those Blacked Out CBs though.

I love hearing Vokey (and others) saying the the pros change their wedges every three-four months. Kooch has had these wedges in his bag for at least four years and I never saw him have any trouble getting shots to skip and stop. Think they're trying to sell us more equipment?....nah. I wonder if they touch up his grooves once in a while...

Very good question or point. His wedges are definitely on the older side. Makes you wonder why we all update clubs so regularly when he's playing all this old stuff....

Wait... I thought Fujikura shafts weren't that good and the ATMOS line was just a over-rated line that Fujikura gave to the companies to throw in their drivers/woods because they were so massed produce... but but but...

I was under the impression that most Tour Pros change out their wedges regularly so that their spin numbers stay up. Kutch's wedges look like he has played them forever. Does anyone know whether he switches those out ever or has purchased replacement heads?

I think that is just what the OEMs want us to believe. If you take good care of them and get the grooves redone properly on a regular basis (this part being key) I think there is no need to change them out very often at all.

Many custom club repair services should be able to do it for you, key is to just make sure they really know what they are doing if you want to keep the grooves confirming (if you care about that). I know that at least historically Ping would do it (maybe even for free?) if you brought them to the factory because my father has done that before since he lives in Scottsdale.

That would equate to 157-160 ball speed - at the Sony this past weekend, he was between 167-170 with his driver which would be more like 111-114. He's definitely added some speed.
