Looks like you were right about the strong lofts, birly. While I was adjusting the swing weight of my MS-1s at the local golf shop (I used lots of lead tape, Big_Stu. You'd like them), I got the lofts of the 7i and 11i measured. The 7i came in at 34*, the same as my MP-18s and MP-4s, and the 11i was 51*. I'm going to check them all myself, and will most probably weaken them a little. I'm also thinking about reshafting them, most likely with S400s, as some of the original shafts are worryingly rusty.

I did hit the 7i and 11i in the shop's net, and they feel absolutely beautiful.

BB Warbird driver 11*, good GP Tour Wrap grip. probably a uniflex steel shaft, the shaft steps are barely defined.

not the same as the Memphis 10's on my fairways.

an nice old plain jane putter with a mint head, GP Classic original grip.

and....four Wilson Golf coasters. Dave Marr, Billy Casper and two George Archer.

a golf themed coffee mug for the office.

not bad for a ten spot.

Found some cool stuff yesterday.

Came home with a Mac tommy armour driver, an old Powerbilt driver with what looks like a laminated insert, and a Macgregor Cheiftain 2 wood. The TA has an odd stamp on it. The number almost looks like w893, but I thought the 963 was more common?

Also found a Slazenger STM putter. Looks like a zero offset Ironmaster or 8802. Anyone know anything about this model? I know Slazenger was more of a UK thing.

Samtay-

Your clubs are-

1) 1965-66 MacGregor Tommy Armour Silver Scot Tourney 693 from the classic woods section of Bobby Farinos book, American Golf Classics

We note your club still has the Reg No on the neck.

2) Late '40s H&B Louisville Power Bilt Bill Kaiser Custom model with Mahogany Pregwood insert. Find Key in Catalog to Reg. Number on soleplate

3) 1950s (1954?) MacGregor Chieftain Sporting Goods Store line golf club.

4) Slazenger STM putter - ? 1970s UK version of Ironmaster putter?

Scored a set 2-9i of Spalding Elite Professionals for $1/ea today. They are these clubs: https://www.ironfind...ss_steel-66.htm

Will clean up really well. There were three sets of irons there today for grabs. The other two sets were a set of cavity back Trident TP's with DG Sensicore shafts 3-L wedge and a set of Daiwa Exceler II's (https://www.ebay.com...=p2047675.l2557). Wow those Daiwa's are a hideous club. I left those two sets there. Gonna clean up the Spaldings and list them on eBay. I have a bird-on-ball PW that I'll pair up with the 2-9 irons.

If anyone is interested in the Spaldings, I would do an even trade for an older set of PING Karsten II's or III's.

Just picked ups set of MacGregor PCB Tour irons 3-PW with TT S300 shafts. Usual bag chatter. Club face and grooves are in great shape. The irons will clean up nicely. Will test them at the range next week to see how the Miura forging feels.

Trust me you will like them----- They hit as good as any Miura of course they are Miura forged. I had a set but they had too much offset for me compared to the older Mac blades but that is one of my quirks

A friend of mine has this set of MacGregor PCB irons done by Miura, liked them a lot, but lost the 7 iron, and hasn't acquired a replacement.

Yes, it's the usual Miura (RH ONLY) story. Great designs like the MC-501 (RH ONLY), but....

Still haven’t found an LFF, so a Mod JS will have to do for now.

I’m guessing by the TT Dynamic shaft it’s late 70’s early 80’s vintage, not quite sure. Maybe some of our Toney Penna experts can weigh in?

Nice JS--- It is hard to say exactly what year on Penna clubs unless it is an absolute custom. Like I said before JS are rare to some extent and I have only seen one in person over the years and that was in the late 70s

How do you know which foundry forged all the different brands of clubs?

Well a lot of it has to do with memory of what specific clubs of what years and models were like say Endo forged in Japan. There is some published info out there in both print and media. But most of us know by experience and reading on here. good example I was never a Hogan man until recently and I never knew 99 Apex irons were Endo forged until someone mentioned it here in this forum. Rex on here is a wealth of knowledge amongst others

Richard-

Which golf equipment companies do you have in mind?

From the workings, we know Cornell Forge and Hoffmann were two of the forging companies which supplied the industry.

Some of the literature from the period describes the forging and grinding process. MacGregor said it took 46 steps from a rod of 1030 Forged steel to a finished JNP iron.

In the 1996 Sports Illustrated article on Don White "The King of Clubs", it specifically stated Cornell Forge supplied the forgings for MacGregor.

To my knowledge, the Golfwrx podcast with Larry Bobka confirmed the suppliers of forgings for these companies.

Thanks for the sports illustrated article. That was a good read.

I know darn well you ain't playing around here today. I was supposed to play in the Annual Children's event at Man O War. According to Bear at 8 AM this morning it was still on for 10:00. I told him I was not playing he hung up on me. Yeah I can see me at 325 lbs sinking knee deep in a fairway and loosing a half dozen balls or more plugging in the fairway. Saw one of the Founders Group Supers in the store and he told me all the Founders Courses were closed. He expressed shock that they were going to actually play the event. For me I can not afford to mess up one of my ankles (as you can relate) or twist my already hurt back I have to work for a living.

Your particular 1986 Toney Penna Jupiter Slugger is described on page 36-10 of The Golf Club ID and Price Guide III.

Note that the grain of your club can be seen in the dark walnut finish.

Thanks Rex. I just got the rotted grip off and a fresh leather one in its place. It will still be a few days before I can hit it as some storms are forecast the next few days.
