It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

Curious if anyone besides me play a 120x in the irons and stiff in everything else?

I know a few Stiff graphite players in 120X and I know a few X graphite users in 130S.

Not sure if this was covered yet, but figured I would ask.

I am currently playing Project X 6.0 shafts and they are perfect for my aggressive swing type. Love the ball flight and feel. However i am having one major problem that seem to be a deal breaker. They are making my tendinitis from the baseball days act up. I can't get through a bucket of balls without my elbow being really sore. I used to be a range rat and hit buckets after buckets. This is the only shaft that has ever caused this, however this is the best shaft performance wise that I have ever used.

So my questions would be is there a Nippon Shaft that plays very close to the PX 6.0, but will help with my elbow pain.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I would try the 130s hard stepped. If they are to firm, you can step them back to straight in. You could also put in sensicore inserts or other inserts to the shaft to decrease vibration. And also use a thicker grip, like the mcc+4, having just that little thicker rubber helps a little bit, all those combined I bet you'd see a difference.

Looking at getting new sand and lob wedges late this year.

Currently have DG Spinners in them, and that isn't an option if I get the ones I want - King Cobra Wedges. I do like the feel I get with the spinners, but want something a touch heavier, maybe 120G+ to keep ball flight down.

Would a Modus Wedge in stiff 115 be too soft or should I try the 125? Would be an up-charge, and 133G seems heavy! Obviously I know responses will say "go try them out!" but I don't know of anywhere that stocks these shafts and will let me try them for free. I'm near Miles of Golf, but I don't need a full wedge fitting...and I have a gift card for Cobra's site.

I currently play and was fitted for KBS Tour S+ in all other clubs except my gap wedge as a standard KBS Tour S that I got after the fact.

Who knows, maybe the answer is to get the old DG S200 or 300 installed, no up-charge. They worked in the past, but felt heavy, with some swing changes recently I think they could work again by the end of this year.

Looks like Charlie Hoffman is playing modus prototype.

Yeah Charlie plays the ST Prototype and has for sometime. This shaft has been on tour for 4-5 years now! Of course Nippon just introduced this shaft last fall as the Modus Tour 105 to the general public. Modus Tour 120 is still #1 for Nippon followed closed by the ST Prototype.

The Wedge 125 to me feels lighter and crisper than 133g. Like an S200 feel. 115 was even lighter and softer feeling. Have you thought about Tour120 irons shafts in your wedges? They are butt soft so you will get that similar feel to DG Spinner but should be lower launch and made mid spin. Might lose a little spin but could be the weight, flex, flight you are looking for. Maybe 120X soft-stepped which would be right at 120g.

The wedge shafts are designed for a little bit of a lower flight and higher spin. The soft section of the DG Spinner is moved down lower in the middle of the shaft, not higher like DG Spinner. I would prefer the 125 Wedge over DG Spinner as I like the firmer feeling up near my hands. DG Spinner feels like its kicks back on me something terrible and my wrists weren't used to that feeling. I don't care for them at all.

I recently got the 105x hardstepped. To me, The bend in them isn't as distinct in one area of the shaft (like the 120 or 130) but they do flex. Also, I am finding with this new build, my miss is a draw, like more draw than I would like.

Currently playing DG Pro X100s. Looking for a comparable Nippon shaft. Maybe a little less spin. Thanks.

I went from that exact shaft to the Nippon 125X. Love it and never looking back. Spin is about 5500 and my ball still lands and checks.

What would be most comparable to a KBS 120 stiff and a DG Pro S300, a 120S or a 120x?

Just ordered Srixon Z945 8-PW with Modus3 125x's to complete the combo set! I currently have DG TI X100 SS1x and was wondering what I should expect from the Modus? Would they be close to the X100 SS1x or a little more stout. Worst case I can reshaft the 8-PW with the X100's. There wasn't an uncharge for the 125's so i Figured I give modus a try! Thanks!

I have a demo thread going where people can sign up to try the 125S, 125X, 120X and 120TX for right now. More coming, link in my signature. But one of the testers tried the 125X and was a long time X100 user and said this:

As far as feel goes, I play the x100 ssx1. The Nippon 125x felt firmer except in the tip section. The 125 is a more active tip. Not soft just active. The x100 has that signature snap/thump feel, the 125 feels like it would give that thump but it just smoothly releases. If that makes any sense...

I never felt like I would lose control of the 125 and I could go after it and it went straight. The x100 tends to draw a bit on me when I turn it up.

I would definitely play the 125x.

I find the Tour125X straight-in to be slightly higher launch than X100 but similar to lower spin. X100 I was a bit all over with low launch/spin bullets and then a high rising balloon. I think the X100 has a slightly softer butt section and for a lag player like me it was a bit too inconsistent setting at the top for my lag. Too much lag meant a balloon, too little lag meant a low bullet. Couldn't really go easy or go extra hard with X100, had to just be mono-speed. Tour125 for me is just flat out more consistent with any move I put on it and with mid-high launch and low-mid spin. Or at least it doesn't balloon as it is on that higher trajectory already. I don't find it to be too high launch and I actually can flight it down rather easily.

Flex wise to me the Tour125 is maybe 1/4 flex softer than X100 in a way where it feels more comfortable, not like, I need to hard-step it. I am experimenting with a set that is 1/2" over standard and hard-stepped once to counter the longer length but it's just a trial run for now. I also have another flex of Tour125 I am testing too.

I would liken the X100 to a Diamana Whiteboard and the Tour125 to a Kai'Li / Blueboard. Smidge higher, bit more kick/pop, still smooth, more user friendly.

Alternatively, Tour120 would be going further down the X100 rabbit hole if you like the X100 DG feel. It has that softer butt, like the X100/whiteboard, hits the ball a bit lower but has a little more kick in the butt and a touch more spin IMO than DG. But also smooths out feel of that profile a little. The subtleties of 125 vs. DG X100 taken the opposite way from X100 would yield the Tour120 (TX in my opinion.) Hopefully that doesn't confuse people.

Hope that helps.

Can anyone compare the Modus 105/ST to Dyanamic Gold Superlight?

Thanks

From what I know of SL, both have a rather stiff tip section for being such a light shaft. I believe the SL cut are at or just under 100g while the Tour105 is a little heavier. I've read mixed reviews on the SL, they seem like a shaft that cannot hang with faster speeds while we all know the Tour105 is on tour in a lot of bags. SL complaints are usually too high and easy to go left. Tour105 I didn't hit it too high, medium to mid-high, but manageable. My issue was the weight was so drastically light compared to my Tour130's at the time I just couldn't get the timing down for my hands to release. I flipped it early a lot and hit it left. I think I'd need to progression step down my shaftweights to get to Tour105. I'd need a 120ish gram shaft first then a 115g-ish shaft. I think Tour105 X cut is like 110g? Not positive, someone else might know. I keep hoping to hear more from Nippon on the LSL proto they had at the PGA Demo Day. Supposed to be a 118g-ish shaft along the feel lines of Tour125/Tour105 with lower launch and spin. I've hit it twice, hope it comes retail this year. Have to wait and see.

I completely agree with your comparison between the 125X and the X100. The 125X spins a touch less, launches slightly higher, and, for whatever reason, is more consistent for me. As for feel, I initially liked the X100's slightly more muted feel; however, after playing a number of rounds with the 125X's, I'm now in love with the smooth pop feeling they produce.

Hey guys,

If I like the weight of the Modus 105 X Stiff but wanted it to flex like Stiff, would I soft step it x2?

Will document my super long journey soon. Highly influenced by this thread. Can't wait for it to end, but it has been fun.

Involves

716 AP1 Modus 120 Stiff #fail

714 AP2 KBS Tour S -> KBS Tour V S -> KBS Tour 125 Stiff #fail.

Just got all these shafts in and heads to go with them, expensive but no fitters have these shafts around here.

Modus 120 X Stiff, Modus 125 Regular, Modus 105 Stiff, Modus 105 X Stiff so will compare these with my current Modus 125 Stiff, Modus 120 Stiff and Nippon 950 GH on a T-MB i just picked up... Fun times.
