Average Joes, what's your driver & shaft combination?

[quote name='modeclan' timestamp='1444661479' post='12445224']
I went thru the trying new drivers process and wound up going back to my old faithful's. I alternate between 3. FT9 9.5 tour ad quattrotech s. FT9 10 oban devotion 6 04. FT9 10 motore F1 s. If I were going to buy a new driver right now it would be the Fly Z+. Hit it very good comparing against everything else at golfsmith.

I also considered a Fly-Z. Might still pull the trigger on one, if I can get it with the White Tie shaft. I just really love my ZLE. That's why I'm trying a $60 shaft before I dump $200 in a new Fly-Z.

In my Nike Performance cart bag on my Clicgear 3.5+ cart:

Ping G-25 3-wood
Callaway Big Bertha 5-wood
Callaway X2Hot 4 hi

I was playing a SDLR 430 12* with Oban Kiyoshi Purple 04 65 gr for most of the season. I loved the look of the head, and when I hit it on the screws the thing went for miles. I also got a ton of roll out. The problem was when I wasnt hitting it on the screws. Since then I have sold it and am back to the driver I was fit for. I have an Anser 12* with Miyazaki Kusala White 56s TI. I play it at 44". It is significantly more forgiving for me than the SLDR was, and I still get plenty of distance. However, I have been using a mini SLDR 16* for about half a season. It is a true game changer for me. I find quite a few more fairways and I don't lose much yardage. I think it's because I have so much confidence that I can take a healthy swing every time and I hit the sweetspot quite a bit more often than my driver.

Been playing a Bio Cell+ w/ either the stock Red Tie stiff or a Kyoshi White Regular at 10.5 and 45" with ok results.
Put a Devotion stiff in my regular BioCell last night and may be giving this a go.

TM Aeroburner 9.5°, Diamana B Series 50 X-Stiff, 45.25", D1.5 swingweight. Driver swing speed is 103-105, seem to get 255 to 270 yard total drives on a consistent basis with this setup, but the real plus is that they are *much* straighter/more consistent than my previous setup. The consistency increase has been very noticeable, though I am not sure how much to attribute to the Aeroburner head being more forgiving, or the total setup just matching my swing better.

This setup is both a lighter swingweight and lighter overall weight, but it meshes nicely with my other clubs in my bag. I've gone through a lot of tinkering lately with my clubs to get a more consistent feel across the set. My old driver was at a D6.5 swingweight, and heavier total weight (R11s 10.5/Project X Black 6.0 44.25") even at 1" shorter length. It felt like swinging a sledgehammer compared to my 3 wood (R11s/Kai'li 70X 42.5") which was at a D1 or so swingweight. Now I can swing more consistently from long irons to 3W to driver.

Very happy with this driver setup for now.

Wishon 919 9* with Devotion 6 regular flex. Nice forgiving combo for me, although not particularly long. Made the switch a few months back after many years with Bridgestone J40 445 9.5* with Speeder 6.2 Regular. Prior to that it was a J33R with Aldila NV 65-S.

SS = low 90s.

M1 with a Miyazaki kusala black 61x. Although I just picked up an oban kiyoshi black X flex to try in it. The low launch low spin X flex shafts always perform best for me. Swing speed is around 100. Don't think your swing speed is the end all with shaft flex! I purchased the m1 with a stiff red tie in it. Almost dumped it. As soon as I went to the X flex....whammo this club is a monster! Hahaha

SS was right around 90 at a recent fitting. M1 10.5*, rear weight neutral, front weight 1/2 way towards draw. Best fitting shaft was a Fuji Six regular stepped to play firm as I am right between reg and stiff flex. I have never hit a ball of the tee longer or more consistently straight.

915D2 9.5 with Fubuki J 70S at 44.75"
100mph SS.
Head isn't the longest but is forgiving and very consistent.
The Fubuki J loads nicely and really kicks through impact. High launch and manageable spin.

Sorry I have just seen this reply, I do not know exactly how much, I spent around 90 minutes trying different shafts in various flexes and weight, the fitter at the end of it showed me numbers and shot direction / dispersion and suggested he tip it to play right in between the regular and stiff shafts. The Fuji Six was giving the best numbers on Trackman and felt the best during my swings.
All I do know is it fits my swing very well with what I am seeing off the tee now.

Shoot out coming.......Tour SLDR Silver 460 10.5 with the following,

GD DI 6 S

Black Tie 6m3 S

GD MJ 6 S

Oban Devo 6 4

Fujikura SIX Tour Spec

The same Shootout will also be with a TM M1 460 M1

SS is 98

The Fuji SIX TS is produce great numbers and ball flight in my SLDR.....might be a little on the low side height wise for some so the non TS would be a solid shaft for Ave Joe SS.

I think I fit into the "average Joe" category as I'm nowhere near the head speed and carry of the typical WRX'er, that said, I'm presently gaming a 915D2 head and play it with either a Kai'li 70, S+ 70, and just for kicks, I threw a Rombax 7V05 tipped a half inch into the rotation. With the Diamanas I get a pretty consistent 250-260 carry distance. The biggest difference between the Kai'li and the S+ is the feel. The Kai'li feels a little tighter and more stable than the S+, whereas the S+ just feels flat out smooth. I've only got one round under my belt with the 7V05 (and it was a cold, windy round), but it seems to perform pretty similarly to the Kai'li and S+ and the very little I could gather about feel from the round was that it seemed to fall right between the two. I'm really anxious to see how this shaft does when it warms up in a couple more months.

910D3 with a Tour AD-DI 6S...currently with a 9.5 head dialed up to 10.25.

Going to be giving the new Nike Flex 440 this year to chase some distance I think.

Thought I found my Holy Grail with the 915D2 9.5 + Fubuki J70S combo. Somehow a 10.5 head with a VTS Silver 6S shaft showed up on my doorstep. A UST Chrome+ 6F4 shaft too. Ho ho ho
