South Denver Golf

Hey Guys,

I know this probably seems like a yearly thread but we should try get together sometime and play a round with some WRX people. I'll start by saying that I can usually play Friday afternoons, saturdays, and sundays. I'm a member at Highlands Ranch Golf Club and would be happy to host and can get a guest rate for people and I'd also be willing to travel somewhere as well. From the Pure thread it sounds like there are a bunch of good golfers in this area so it would be fun to get a game going sometime. Chime in if you're interested.

Hey thanks for starting. I'm up to do that sometime. I play at cc at castle pines but have played highlands ranch a good bit. This winter in fact. Also a hawk fan, but played golf at Drake...no I'm not Zach

Haven't played Highlands Ranch since we had a work league there 4 years ago. Definitely interested in getting a foursome together. I'm pretty open to whatever time in the near future. Once we get into May I'll be limited to weekends or later in the afternoon. I'd be fun to get out with some people that can actually play. At least there'd be some interesting conversations.

I am game to play, I did go to Illinois so I do not know if I can play with a hawk fan (kidding). Actually, one of my friends plays there all the time his wife worked in the clubhouse last year. His name is John and is a lefty, he is a pretty good stick.

Wouldn't call that the wrong side of the tracks, but I hope you are far enough away from those loud train horns. Yeah, that was one of the many painful games I as a Illini fan has witnessed this year. Iowa looked solid vs Indiana last night that is for sure.

Centennial here. Play Wellshire for my League every other weekend, GVR, Foothills, The Dunes, Heritage Westmoor, Legacy, and CO Nati a lot when not playing in the league, so I am game to travel as well. Looks like I would be getting some strokes too with this group of sticks!

I'm moving to Denver in late June, and if this turns out to be a monthly get together or something like that, I'm definitely in.

Not sure I could hang with the ballers but we would definitely love to meet new people (golfers and non golfers alike) since we really don't know anyone there!

When I was traveling, I played a course in Golden called Fossil Trace. Very, very nice, and the hamburgers at the end of the round were excellent as well.

Not really south, but does anyone around here play Murphy Creek out in Aurora? It's pretty much been my go-to since moving to Denver last February. $50 walking and it's always a tough round. I'm starting to show up there nearly every weekend.

I play there a lot, 5 minutes from my house. Aurora has some nice muni courses. Best in co in my opinion. I've got a golf wrx tag on my bag, and my bag looks like a zebra can't really miss it.

Well that makes 3 of us that practice / play out of Murphy Creek... 5 minutes from my house too. Was there Saturday hitting balls and walked 9 holes to test some different golf balls out.

Very impressed with new TM TPX... longest ball I have hit in a long time. Did not spin as much as I thought on long irons, but it is long.

Has the City of Aurora got better on their tee times? I refuse to play 5+ hour rounds and it seems to always be the case with Saddle Rock, Murphy Creek, etc.

Greens being aerated yet? Much winterkill? One course near me has already aerated, another lost most of the greens, I'm in the NE corner of Colorado.

NOPE...sad but still slow.

I know a lot of people who play Murphy Creek and over play the tees. Tips are 7456, Blues are 6878. So I think people end up playing to far back making it very tough on them. I know when I play the tips it beats me up pretty good when the wind starts blowing...which is ALWAYS...:LOL

Haha - Seems like nothing has changed in terms of City of Aurora courses. I remember rolling up to number 8 at Saddle Rock and it being a few groups deep and it took about a hour from putting in on 7 to hitting my tee shot on that downhill par 3. The ranger did absolutely nothing and it ended up being a 3 plus hour front nine. Since that day I refuse to play at any City of Aurora courses.

You hit the nail on the head that about 5% of the golfers in Colorado should be playing the tips at Murphy Creek. That place is a pretty challenging track and when the wind is blowing goodnight. BTW - Watch out for those RattleSnakes as I almost stepped on one a few years back right around this time of year.

This is a few months in advance, but I will be setting up a foursome on Sundays this fall. I refuse to sit on the couch and watch Cry-tler ruin the Bears for another season (or five). Will post in the Colorado WRX 2015 thread.

Murphy Creek from the tips is a beast. That may be one of the toughest tracks in all of CO, particularly when the wind is blowing, which is pretty much always. Great course though, really nice and usually very well kept.
