Pelican Lakes is boring.
Too much water for ya? ;)

Speaking of water, does anyone know when Coal Creek is going to re-open? Didn't like half the course get washed away....
They advertise all the miles of water, yet you really have to screw up to get a ball wet. Dunes would be my fav, followed by the Eisenhower Blue, Bear Dance, Green Valley Ranch is fun, and on my side of town, Buffalo Run is just OK.
Is Eisenhower Blue that course down on the Air Force Academy? I've heard good things, but never gotten the opportunity to play it. I played Walking Stick down in Pueblo once, wasn't bad, especially for the price, but it gets way too hot down there in the summer.

Yeah that one par 3 on the back is a driver from the tips for me....Buffalo Run is nothing special, but it's no walk in the park either.
Yeah, #13, scorecard yardage is 228 from the gold (260 from the tips), back pin lasered at 242. At least it had a big bunker in front of it too!

Thats kind of how I felt. Nothing really sticks out in my mind as great, but a good course and test. Generous fairways. We would play it again. I think it was $58 with a cart. I don't know if it's quite a $58 course in my opinion, but not far off.

PS The GPS units on the carts were terrific. They were smaller but the numbers were pretty good sized and they were easy to figure out yardages to bunkers and hazards.

Yes, Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, maybe the best course in the state.

I will toss out some courses.... I have no preference just looked at a Denver metro map spacing wise. (we can add farther south or north depending)

My vote would be for South Suburban. I think we could spend 4-5 hours in the 19th hole after the round talking about how hard the greens were.

My second vote would be to play all 27 at Fox Hollow.

Those are fantastic courses...Broken Tee is fine, but nothing special...I absolutely love the Dunes...not sure how anyone could describe it as kinda boring...but, my home course is Collindale - so I'm used to flat, tight and fast greens...so anything with some slope to it feels pretty wild and crazy to me!

I would love to play all 27 at Fox Hollow, great course!

As for South Suburban, the last time I played there I had an 88 without a penalty or lost ball. Took 44 swings, but had 44 putts!!! I had six legit birdie attempts, burned the edges on 5 of them.....however 3 of them resulted in a bogey and one was a 4 putt DB! I still love the course, but even the pros would struggle on those greens....there isn't a flat spot on any of them.

Excellent right now ....

1 - South Suburban
1 - Dunes
2 - Fox Hollow (All 27 holes...)
1 - "I would do any of the courses"

I agree on SS greens... I have not played in it for a long time but the "Mean Green" tourney either made you cry or snap your putter. If yardage was 150....You hit 145 or less to ensure you are below the hole, putting from the fairway was easier LOL

Broken Tee I tossed out because of location. I don't mind the back 9...

Collindale is a GREAT track. You must drive it well to play there all the time.

I can be easy going about this. I've always heard suburban kinda sucks so I've never actually played it? GVR is always pretty fun and they do a good job for a reasonable price. Fossil trace was fun but I've only played that once. I haven't played a bunch so whatever you guys think.

Both Dunes and Fox Hollow are great. Few holes are quirky at Fox Hollow (like the one that has the spotter at the end of the fairway that's 7-iron, 7-iron) but overall a very nice track.

Red Hawk is my home course, I actually think it is very over priced for what it is. It can be a tough track because you have to play shots more than just hit it long and play it up. I like the course, don't get me wrong, but it should play around 55 on the weekend for a resident instead of 70. Bear Dance is an amazing club and Fossil Trace might be the most interesting course I've played.

Yes, but the problem with playing in the afternoon on a weekend is you essentially guarantee yourself a 5 hour round!

Depends on the course....some I never see a Marshall, some are very diligent about moving people along. Once we made the turn at the Ridge 10 minutes ahead of pace and were told we were a hole behind the group in front of us. That course is too pricey to play a lot, but Troon sure does know how to run a golf course.

Umm...Cougar Canyon has been closed for 4 years now. Since I go down there for work every once in a while, out of curiosity I drove by to see what it looks like. A bad investment gone bad comes to mind as there are about 8 homes completed when there are suppose to be 400 and the shell of what should have been an 80 room hotel, spa, and clubhouse.

Where is Redlands and Devils Thumb? Those are 1 & 2 on my list for best in the state.

Interesting you like Fossil that much and not Red Hawk as much. Engh's courses tend to blend into one another a little too much for me. i.e same greens. However, I have to say his courses maybe the most fun to play.

weather looked a bit dicey yesterday afternoon but still overall a good day in spite of my first ever tee time faux pas....booked via Red Hawk's website (or so I thought) which actually directs through some site called ezlinks and when I showed up to the course the tee time at 1:30 was not under my name. Whoops....not sure what happened, but they were able to get us out at 2:24 for the same price.
I'd take Dunes 10/10 times and twice on Sunday.
I have a couple buddies who are also in love with the Dunes....I think it is meh personally, it is flat and kinda boring, almost always super windy (in the afternoon when we play for cheap) if I want railroad ties I'd rather play Plum Creek despite them not taking great care of it the last few years.

My metro area list would be:

1.Bear Dance
2.Fossil Trace
3.Red Hawk

Leaving out the Ridge at Castle Pines and Arrowhead due to price, but if you can play them for under $85, then add them in there as well.

but courses I prefer over the Dunes are the Knolls (just kidding) South Suburban, Lone Tree, Heritage Eagle Bend, CO National, Broadlands, Fox Hollow, The Meadows, Green Valley Ranch, and maybe even Raccoon Creek.

If you want to add the whole state, Lakota Canyon, Pole Creek, Keystone River, Mariana Butte, Pelican Lakes, Cougar Canyon, Raven at Three Peaks.

Sincerely your #1 Dunes hater :ban::tongue:

But one of my personal favs around here is Evergreen (yes the one with the big rock) so please take anything I say with a grain of salt. But it has trees! and I grew up in the midwest so it might be a nostalgia thing for me.

Interesting you like Fossil that much and not Red Hawk as much. Engh's courses tend to blend into one another a little too much for me. i.e same greens. However, I have to say his courses maybe the most fun to play.

Don't get me wrong. I really like playing Red Hawk. I think it is a great course and can be quite challenging from the back. I just wish it was a little cheaper, I don't think it should be playing at near 85 dollars for non-residents on the weekends. But they get that price and are quite busy, so I suppose...Just glad I live there for a few dollars off. I play Red Hawk way more than anywhere else, so I for sure like the course.

Plus another thing I can't stand is they have no 9 hole Twilight rate. I pay 30+ dollars to play 9 holes on the weekdays, that is super expensive. For example, I play 9 holes in the afternoon at Meadow Hills (a former private course) and it is 17.50 to play it. That is MUCH more reasonable.

I'm starting to like Red Hawk more and more as I seem to play really well there. 3 straight rounds under 80 from the golds (from the tips is a whole different story as 3 of those par 5's play like beasts not to mention #15 even though it is downhill)

But yes, if I am going to have to pay 80+ dollars, I do feel I can do better elsewhere.

I will tell you, there isn't anyone that I would think could reach #7 in two from the back, and I mean anyone. Maybe it is possible, but I have to think it wouldn't be easy. #13 If I hit a good drive I can get a shot at two, #16 no way from the back. #15 from the back is typically par is a great score, bogey is a good score. 500 plus, and I'm telling you that just because the tee box is up high doesn't mean your drive will leave you anything less than 200. You have to have wind behind you there. I did birdie that hole on Saturday's tourney, but had to make a 40 footer to do it. Tough holes. (BTW I have to play from the tips in the tourneys, so I play there in practice as well)
