Glen Club is a private club that offers public rates only because the city makes them. It's not worth the pricetag, but they aren't trying to sell more tee times, they want more memberships.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with Cog's facilities that they needed upgrading though, it's perfectly suited for who and what they are and their clientele's needs. You go upscale in that area and you might price out a lot of people. I've been to wedding receptions there, they were great, the bar and restaurant are fine as well and the driving range is probably tops in the area if you have access to the short game center, they just don't have that new and flashy design and feel to them like the Glen Club has.

 

Ugh. The 2/4 "clubhouse" needs to be bulldozed. I don't think they need a replacement in the same league as The Glen Club, but something as least as good as a cheap muni would be nice.

 

I dunno there's something about that clubhouse I like, it's what I grew up on going out there as a kid!

 

'Nothing wrong with it if it was on a $40 muni. 'Just not the type of place I want o hang out in after a $155 round, which is why I skipped it last week, and stopped at Lagunitas Tap Room on the way back downtown.

2 day tournament over the weekend at Prairie Landing. Defending champion - should be fun, as long as weather cooperates.

I'm walking 18 at Sportsman's CC tomorrow morning at 8:03 am. There's still a spot open if anyone wants to join. I assume it'll be rather wet after several days of light rain, but hopefully not too bad. The winds will likely be tough, reaching 20 mph.

 

Idlewild CC on Sunday. That's always a tough test.

Might be the second weekend in a row of no golf. I guess I'm getting to be a weather snob at the moment and not interested in playing in rain/light rain or any amounts of massive wind. Maybe Sunday morning if it clears up a bit?

Sportsman's GC this morning. I managed to get in 5 holes before a light rain started falling. Don rain gear, and press on. It stayed fairly light until my 17th hole, and then it really started coming down. I finished in the slop, and packed it up. By mid-round I think I was the only person on the course. The fairways were playable, but the greens starting accumulating puddles. Oh well. beats sitting at home.

Got rained out at Prairie Landing in the morning. Was 1 under through 6 and then it started raining pretty hard - snowman on 7, double on 8, but by then, we were told the first day of the tournament was cancelled. The course is in great condition - the greens were perfect; quick but not stupid quick. They definitely set it up for a tournament - every single pin was tucked away. Good luck flag hunting.

I'm playing Dudsdread on Friday for a practice round for the Under Armour regional tournament on Saturday on Dubsdread.

Walking only at Wilmette this morning. The place was pretty saturated. The greens had a triple whammy, aerated, wet, and shaggy, and were pretty much un-puttable.

 

'Decent round, nonetheless. Given that there wasn't much roll out on the tee shots. I wound up hitting a lot of hybrids into the green. Since the round was pretty much a wash, I decided to try hitting fades off the tee. 'Hit a few beauties, but I still need to work on it. It would be great to be able to hit a reliable fade, along with my natural draw.

Another round at Prairie Landing - this time the weather cooperated. Mediocre play contiinued - 80 with some "what the hell was that" shots sprinkled around, resulting in couple doubles. Pulled the driver out on 1 - our 16th hole (shotgun start). 295 to back left pin, into a slight breeze. Hit the ball on the screws, get to the green to find it resting pin high, 8' above the hole. Of course I promptly missed the eagle putt - who wants to collect a $400 skin.

They aerated Dubs last week, and combined with the recent rain, I wouldn't expect much unfortunately.

I get the Jewish holidays off at work but I'm among the chosen people of Israel. That means 36 holes today and 36 more tomorrow. I played Washington County this morning as I couldn't pass up the chance to walk there for $23. My friend and I were the first ones on the course, which was nice because we didn't have to wait at all and played in under 3:00. However, the sun didn't get strong enough to get the dew off the course until we were already done so the entire round was extremely wet. They also haven't cut the rough in a couple of weeks so missing the fairway at all made par a tough number. We initially planned to play a second round at Washington County but the place was packed as we were finishing and the prospect of waiting on every shot after not waiting at all wasn't too appealing. We ended up playing Ironwood after getting a tip from a guy a couple years ago that it might be worth a look. It's got some tricky holes but I don't think I'd go out of my way to play it again.

 

Tomorrow we're playing The Oaks in Madison and Hawks View.

Well, the early bird dinner is at 4pm today. It's meatloaf night and 2 for 1 brandy Manhattan's, so we can't miss that. We're flying out really late, think it's 7pm.

I was snooping around for fall rates/early bird deals for next weekend and am kind of surprised by the lack of fall rate info/price drops at many of the mid-tier courses in the area. I know HoE and Bowes dropped their rates but I haven't seen much else for the western burbs.

 

Also, does anyone know if Thunderhawk got rid of their early bird special? Earlier this summer I played there for cheap on an early-bird rate for the first hour that they were open.

Blame global warming. With decent weather, I don't blame them for keeping the rates up, provided that they haven't aerated, or aerated in early September.

When Thunderhawk aerates their greens they add a thick layer of sand. Last year we took advantage of a fall rate, but were disappointed. It was basically unplayable. My friend booked the tee time over the phone. He said they didn't say anything about the conditions. I would specifically ask....

Indian Lakes is not a bad course, but it's closing at the end of this season. I can't imagine that they've put a lot of effort in maintaining it over the past few weeks. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Shephard's Crook, Steeple Chase, Bittersweet, Foxford Hills, Pine Meadows, and Sanctuary are all on Fall rates. I'm not sure of the specifics of each course but I know that Pine Ghettos is $51 and twilight ($39.50) starts at 2:00 instead of 3:00. Foxford is $55 during prime time and $43 after 1:00 and Bittersweet has some super low deals.

I haven't played there, but would Kankakee Elks be a possibility?
