Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

If Homer Simpson was running it, that probably would be true.....

I love that course.

Trekking to Byron tomorrow for a nice walk at Prairie View. Is it true that because of the nuclear power plant near by it's 25 degrees warmer there?

I have never been there, just looked at pictures though. Is it as nice as it looks on their website? May have to add it to the list.

... My ex wife was an engineer at the Byron facility. She was also a Honey Bear cheerleader for the Bears. You want a cheerleader working at a nuclear power plant? Let that sink in.

We played there 2 years ago on a lark and I'd label it as a hidden gem. Have only played it 5 times or so but the conditions have always been great, pace at 4 hours or less, a great mix of holes with a slight hint of Carolina for a stretch on the back and we're paying $25 tomorrow...you can't really go wrong. I'd definitely put it on the must play list.

Haha! Funny story about that picture.. You posted it a while back and I saw it and tried to find Springfield Country Club (Illinois) with no luck. Thought it looked awesome, and would be between here and St. Louis. It all makes sense now.

going to play Mt Prospect early next week as we got 1.5" of rain up north and not as much fell in Mt Prospect.

hit some balls at the range there and rolled some putts.

Their hardest day of golf is tomorrow and they cut and rolled the greens today per the pro.

It's definitely a must play. Great value, excellent conditioning, very well-laid out back nine, decent front. They host an absurd amount of events though.

Just thought I would share an observation, I live right next door to Chalet Hills and Drive by at least three or four times a day and they had some heavy equipment digging out some of the bunkers near the second hole green with two Pickup trucks parked next to the green. ( I was also interested because they were Sunbelt rental Bobcat skid steers & excavators, as sunbelt was my former employer and Bobcat is my current). On my way back I swung in to take a closer look and there were two other Wadsworth trucks parked next to the clubhouse, for those not up to speed but Wadsworth is a renovation specialist company. https://www.wadsworthgolf.com/ I do not know if it is part of a larger scale project but I will keep a close eye.

Not unexpected frost delay at Sunset Valley. Temps were in the low 40s downtown, but it's 30 degrees here, and there's quite the frost buildup on the turf. The threesome I was partnered with bailed, so it looks like I'll head out as a single in a few hours.

I overheard someone say near the 1st tee, "This is the nicest 30 degree day I can remember". I'll say. With light winds and plenty of of sunshine, it was another gorgeous fall day on the links. The course was in very good shape. There were a few places where the leaves were problematic, but otherwise the removal of many trees certainly helped keep play moving. The greens were on the slow side though. Initially I thought it was the morning dew, but even after they dried they were slower than I'd prefer. I chalk it up to first year grass.

Love the redesign. The course has really been opened up with the removal of many trees. The greens are larger, and undulating. They're not as severe as Mt Prospect, but still have plenty of challenge. I expect I'll be playing here on a regular basis in the Spring and Fall. I normally don't care about clubhouses, but I gotta say they did a great job with the new minimalist design here. Large windows surround the small bar/restaurant. There's also a nice patio for pleasant summer afternoons. 'Very nice. Glencoe and TPC Northbrook should copy the style.

Spotty day ballstriking. Only 7 fairways, but 11 greens. Still fighting a two way miss. Only one birdie to offset 7 bogies. Just couldn't find a groove today. The course definitely requires misses in the right spots.

95th round of the year. With five rounds planned in December in Jacksonville, I'll reach the 100 round mark for another year. I'm hoping to get in at least 5 rounds before then if the weather cooperates.

same two hour delay at Sportsman's. let us go at nine fifteen. they decided to run the sprinklers to soften the greens.

dropped a twenty five footer on number six.

had some good reads but nothing beat that one.

next Saturday is their Turkey shoot so the big course is blocked until after one p.m.

We played a round at Stonewall this morning. I'm cheap so I wait for twilight to play there most of the time and later in the day the course is always wide open. Today, it was absolutely jammed and the frost delay pushed everything back even more. As a result, the pace was a brutal 4:40 and we waited on every shot behind guys who couldn't play a lick. If I was a hacker, I don't think I'd bother with a course as tough as Stonewall. The group in front of us probably lost 15 balls. I hit the ball alright and the course was in excellent shape. A handful of fairways had been punched and sanded and were CPO and there was standing water in some bunkers because of last week's rains, but the greens were in pristine condition. I hit a bunch of fairways but needed to scramble to save par quite a few times. Iron play was off a bit, though I was really happy we walked. That kept me warm, and when the clouds rolled in and the sunshine disappeared, temps dropped like a rock. The other person in our group was in a cart and he was freezing. 77. Things are looking chilly next week. I hope this isn't it.

90 minute frost delay at Ravisloe yesterday. Greens and bunkers were superb. Fairways were recently aerated and they threw all the cores in the rough but were pretty good for November. Chipping from packed mud were the tough shots for the day.

The two new tee boxes for the 12th have been sodded but they haven't cleared out any trees yet along the fairway. Looks like about an extra 120yrds to be added to this uphill 400yd hole.

Ravisloe tomorrow. Local rule no lost balls due to fallen leaves. Might break 80.

Not that it matters, because handicap season just ended, but this isn't a USGA-sanctioned local rule, is it? Courses can't just make up their own local rules, willy-nilly, although some certainly do.

Anyway, going to play in the 2-cup Scramble at Ravi next Saturday. Was hoping to get a warm up in this weekend, should have gone out yesterday, but I had some work to take care of, and besides my buddy was busy too, so we found a teeoff.com DealTime at Cantigny for 12:20 this afternoon and see if the weather held out. Well we both decided that nor wind, nor rain, nor chill sounded fun to play in all at the same time...

So I called the website to see what they could do. The first lady I spoke with, put me on hold, called Cantigny who told them they were staying open, then told me the best she could do was give me website credit or reschedule. I told her I'd think about it and call back. Then I called back, and the next lady I spoke with just went right ahead and gave me a refund. Weird but fine with me.

Hope I can squeeze in some practice before the 2-Cup Scramble. Anyone else from the boards doing this? Sounds fun!

Windy and wet. Most normal people would use the extra hour for some well needed sleep. Unfortunately, I'm not most people, and I'm certainly not normal. I teed it up just after sunrise at Marovitz. With only a handful of diehards out there, I managed to get in two nines before the rain started falling. Winds were 20 to 30 mph, and it was work just to keep from falling over on most swings. I figured it would be good practice for Scotland next April , and what the heck, they'll be plenty of time to sleep in during the winter months. The course was in reasonable shape given the overnight rain. A bit muddy on a few fairways due to aeration cores. The greens were actually rolling quite nice. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that there was actual sand in the bunkers. They looked quite nice. The fairways were initially clear of leaves, but a few good 40 mph wind gusts took care of that.

Considering the conditions, it was a decent round with 9 fairways and 9 greens. One birdie on the day, and three scrambles for par. At this point I just wanted to be out swinging a club and getting some exercise.

Going to get ahead of my winter depression and call it a year on chicago golf. Ha! Looking at the forecast, I think I am just going to accept the fact that I am not going to want to play here for the next few months. Hopefully will get a few warmer days in St. Louis when I visit. But at this point I am looking ahead to Kiawah for Thanksgiving. Was going to check out the redone Mistwood Dome in bolingbrook, but 36 dollars an hour seems pretty pricey. I am sure i'll check it out soon though.

Same exact sentiment. Forecast looks bleak. I just booked some desperation golf in Orlando for mid month. October was a let down.

Weather doesn't look great, but as long as it stays above 35 and the wind stays down, I'll be trying to get out until the snow falls. I bought a cart cover this year to use in the fall scrambles as they usually include carts, although in my normal rounds, I usually walk. Thankfully, the weather was good for the scrambles so it hasn't gotten any use yet... But we've still got one or two on the agenda.

I have a nice two week trip booked around Christmas where my wife and I will be in Phoenix and then Orlando...so I'll definitely be playing a good amount of golf. But with our first child coming in April.... I feel it may be a slower start than usual to next year's golf season.

I was at SV too yesterday AM. It certainly was surprising to have the frost despite really good conditions otherwise.

I play much of my golf at Glencoe and SV (and other north shore courses). Since the renovation I have probably played SV about 10 times. I like the new course, but I am struggling to score well on it. My primary issue is that many of my approach shots are not holding the greens. I don’t like not being rewarded for good shots. I know that the course is still young and may play differently in the future. Generally speaking the new green complexes are great and roll true. Just maybe a little firm though. Would be nice to have some fringe too.

Honestly I cannot remember, there were a couple from Sweden and the UK and one from South Carolina, I can remember the countries and states but not the course names haha. I talked to Bill(one of the guys from the course) and he said there are plans to add more courses this year. It’s really cool. Instead of putting, you have to chip within a certain distance to a flag on the range. The circle gets bigger and smaller depending on how close you are with your approach. Another feature the toptracer has is a program called what’s in the bag, gives you carry and total yardages for all the clubs in your bag that you can track with an app on your phone. It’s definitely something worth doing this winter, especially if you can go down south for real golf haha

Yeah, the greens at Sunset Valley are very firm. I had numerous approaches bound over the green. It was the same the first year at Wilmette. 'Gotta land the ball in the front part of the green, or even the fairway. They'll soften up next year.

I played Mt Prospect yesterday with a friend and it was a fantastic day.

For a guy who gets limited rounds, with two girls under 3 years old, my appreciation for playing has certainly increased.

Few people on the course, and we got around in 3:45...

Course was a bit wet, but their improved drainage shines again, as the course was very playable (shout out to waterboy)

Took this photo on way to first tee.

It is from behind the 9th green.

My buddy, in his first time playing there, hit his approach perfectly and hit the knoll on the right and had his ball feed down to 3 feet past the hole.

He made the putt.

No photos until the 17th, and my photos don't do the maple justice, but they were on fire...

The 17th is Mt Prospect's rendition of the road hole, but with no way to "go over the hotel on the right."

The bunker and green are faithful renditions, though...

The approach from our drives near the end of the first fairway

at 100 yards out, more or less

front of green, I lie 2 here (took 4 to get in, and that was with a good chip!!!, dang)

It was a great fall day.

We'll see what the next weeks have in store
