If they would show golf instead of a few inept guys talk it would be better. Don't wanna see guys talk at the desk for 56 mins of every hour or Joe Buck not knowing what he's talking about or Curt Menefee not have a clue about golf yet try to explain it to everyone who knows a million x more than he ever will.

For their first time doing it they've been pretty good. Buck has been decent, Pavin has been good, Norman they should replace with Monty, and their shot tracer has been great.

The footage for individual holes linked to each players scorecard on the USGA website is great. I wish they had every hole covered. I would just watch that after it is all over.

I really think the problem with Fox taking on golf broadcasting is that they 1) started with a new staff that never worked together before, 2) started with a major, 3) started on a very difficult course, 4) don't really understand since they are inexperienced, what the viewer wants to hear, 5) have a main color coordinator (in Joe Buck) who's background is not golf or is not good at letting people talk golf, 6) are still themselves at Q-school, trying to play the pro game at broadcasting and presenting a golf package.

Frankly, I'm having a hard time watching it. Guessing it must be a combination of the ridiculous golf course and the broadcast.

Fox has brought innovation to Football coverage. Their golf coverage is really poor. The challenge of keeping the viewer informed of what's transpiring on the course is a real art form and the Fox coverage has simply been subpar in that regard. Late cuts to Speith putting for a birdie to take the lead; not tracking ball flight; poor "on the course" coverage; and lastly Greg Norman's insight is amateur-ish at best.

I prefer Buck to Nance or Berman. Norman, Pavin and Inkster are good, Flesh and the other dude are pretty generic. I don't like cutting back to the studio to get another rehash of recent play, but this is the way of current programming, refreshing your memory of what happened 5 minutes ago.

The real problems with the broadcast are more technical, like the player score box not showing up when the player is on air. The standard for the display of information to inform the competitive situation is pretty well established. They couldn't quite get it together, although are improving as the days go by.

FOX did have an opportunity to work on their game covering the other USGA events earlier this year. I don't think people were as critical for those as it was nice just to get coverage. The US Open put them and their flaws directly under the spotlight.

Edit: The enhanced use of the shottracker is really nice.
