Big hype here about GG.

He knows how to promote himself.

And people get attracted as usual.

What I don't like of GG is his flashing of hand signs of satan...

https://www.instagra...swingtips&hl=de

I think he's just an old school metal-head like me.

GG says that lateral movement is slow. Really?

Can understand that he wants to promote that his way is superior, but as Dan and other have already stated, what GG says people shall do and what they really do is different. His transition move is in transition, but he shows it very exaggerated and I guess till P6 is way to late to pop out of it.

Edit:

And GG does it like this.

https://www.instagra...swingtips&hl=de

I think his concept is nothing new, but he creates a lot of hype. Actually his rotation move is what Kelvin Miyahira is talking for years.

Ha the "satans hands" gesture doesn't literally mean what you're interpreting it to. He's a SoCal surf/skate guy who I would assume grew up in the punk and metal scene and its a just a gesture made, no ill intent behind it. But I digress......

I sent him a dm of my swing on insta and he responded with a few swing keys which I thought was cool of him. I don't like the one move for all type of teaching but I like what he is trying to achieve with "his" swing. The inmpact position is where all solid golfers get to.

Good points about him being an old school SoCal skate and surf guy. I'm an old school East Coast skate and surf guy so I can relate. 99% of those guys were into the punk and metal scene back in the day.

The \m/ hand sign was not a sign of satan back then, just as you said. It was more of a "hang loose" and party hard combination hand sign.

Nerd - Who said what he is teaching is new? You make it sound like GG just started teaching and is all hype marketing and he has it wrong. Just because you just heard of him doesn't make him new, that is quite naive. George has been teaching for 17 years and has taught his lower body/pivot stuff for 12 of it. You make it seem like he swiped KMs stuff? KMs student, Victor Rodriguez goes to George now and GG had to change his pivot and he dislikes the drive hold release big time.

He has guys on nearly every Tour. If you think Matt Every and Dustin Johnson were there multiple times to just hit off the mats and mess around then you might want to rethink what GG has wrong. He has been sending kids on D1 scholarships for many years and his juniors dominate now.

As for only teaching young guys, I am not exactly a spring chicken getting ready to turn 44 and this lady is 71 and rotates pretty dang good.

QB - the drill for the late release he had me do is the feeling of getting the right hip and shoulder to impact before the clunhead, and he had me doing the no throw to get the feel of it, where you literally do not let the arms come off of the chest and just rotate.

Dana is teaching some of his students something very similar like these two guys. These are two good players that he has feeling like they sit into their right legs and do not let the pelvis girdle move forward. He also has them feel like the left arm is pinned to the chest at impact.

How many lessons have you taken from him? Did you work on your pivit? I think it is great that you know so many great instructors long before they are cool.

I was around last year when any mention of other instructors were dismissed when brought up even though they were helping others hit it better. I try not to be close minded when it comes to this stuff because there are more than one ways to get it done.

That Kelvin M. article was interesting to me, as a layman.

Regarding George, if you listen to him, he is not claiming to have invented anything. In fact he talks about "stock models" and how students deviate from them. Like all (good) instructors, George appears to care about results as defined as helping his students improve. I would argue it is more a limitation of the medium--taking instruction from short video clips--than a limitation of method. While the clips are interesting, and can be helpful, if you saw GG in person, the actual lesson might be different. The art of reaching is in the eye, and in tailoring the right message, delivered in a way the student will receive it. That's the piece missing from the internet.

Reading through the thread and watching different vids of his, I like how he's not terribly concerned about back swing positions but much more obviously with transition and impact. To me that shows he knows there is more than on way to skin a cat. (sorry PETA)

Jeep - George specifically told me he dislikes KMs drive hold. George doesn't want you holding anything in the release. He had to fix my release multiple times because I kept holding it. He also told me about fixing victors pivot and release. He likes some of the same things KM does, but his pivot is different and he used some strong words regarding the drive hold.

I know you have texted him, but this was face to face.

Just letting the club go, not holding the wedge. We would do the slow mo drills and hit the positions and check points and when I would get to p8 he would have to change the shaft orientation and tell me "just let it go behind you, quit holding on".

He wants the wrists to extend. Not stay flexed. He also has some variations of the release and extension if you want to hit it higher but he doesn't prefer it to a more shallow compression.

I have to thank Hstead again for sharing his experience with GG.

I'm not fully understanding the motion, and it may be incompatible with my pre-existing pattern, but I can say the bit about the setup with the tailbone tucked under a bit on the setup has been a religious experience for me.

It feels a little weird at the standing position, but in motion it feels so much more balanced and powerful. Now I look at footage of Palmer, Player, etc. and it's everywhere.

I also am so thankful about this "discovery" because I was starting to develop some back issues and piriformis issues that coincided exactly when I was prescribed heavy does of the chair drill with my rear sticking out. I chalked it up to "getting older", but having the tailbone tucked ever so slightly completely alleviates the strain on the lower back and piriformis.

Heath or Jeep.....I'm a little confused on what goes on right after you've reached P6 in a squatted position. Is it rotating the chest while extending at the same time.....so around and up? I've heard George say something about going up to some of his students but he says it so fast I couldn't hear it properly. Tried to get my wife to come over and listen to the IG but she flipped me off.

You shouldn't have to think about turning the chest I don't think because it has no choice since your hips are wide open the chest is going to follow. The "kick up" is basically extending the legs and body toward the target.

He has one Instagram where the guy is pretending to bowl, that is the move.
