So an hour and a half, 3 different support people, multiple holds and transfers I have finally upgraded my iCloud storage. I have never had so much trouble spending ninety nine cents a month.  They kept asking me to click on options that were not anywhere to be seen. Opening my old and new computers, changing passwords and then changing them again. Asking me to add payment accounts that I found out myself required deleting the old one first. What a run around!

Headed back to the States for Christmas, first time in over 3 years, wondering about the reverse culture shock.  I know to avoid certain neighborhoods, but some of that seems to be bleeding over to places you wouldn't think crime would occur that often.

Reverse culture shock is real!

 

The lovely wife got a manicure the other day. I dropped her off since I had some errands to run and went back to pick her up.

 

She only had a five dollar bill. The place demands cash tips, no tips added to a cc. Hmmm . . .

 

The woman said five dollars wasn’t enough of a tip.

 

I had a ten dollar bill. I said OK,  I took it out and asked her to give me back the five.

 

She gave me back the five, and I put them both in my pocket.

 

There must be 5 nail places within 1,000 yards. 🙂

Yep what Soloman said, although that's because the Japanese peso got hit harder by inflation than the USD.  If you notice the picture he posted weekends are much more expensive than weekdays for non-members.  Also, in the Kansai region near Osaka/Kyoto fees seem to be significantly cheaper than eastern Japan near Tokyo.

I am playing more golf since retiring for a number of reasons. All but a few of the rounds are walking which gives me exercise and I love to be outside. I have lived the last eleven years in the middle of my home course which has been very convenient for playing and for snowshoeing in the winter.

 

Since retiring, I have been passionately pursuing my interest in golf history in North America and the clubs that have been used for the last 125 years particularly. I have been very involved with the Golf Historical Society of Canada and enjoy promoting historical golf. In normal times, I would have travelled more and pursued my other hobbies, but being an organizer of vintage events has been the order of the day during the last few years.

 

I am fortunate to have several friends that are as passionate golfers as I am which makes it a real blast. I never tire of the challenge to get the most out of the old sticks and is much more rewarding than playing with modern equipment.

 

Conrad, some day I hope that we and some of the other guys can get together for a game or two. Stu and I can play our vintage stuff and you guys can play whatever floats your boat. It would be a lot of fun.

I see them wearing shorts on the DP World Tour now. Time to allow them on the PGA Tour. The

classy shorts don't look any less professional than long pants IMO.

The part about not ordering alcohol around here is true. One of the reasons we mostly stick to local owned family style dining here. The sports bars around here have good food but if one does not drink alcohol the service sucks. So we stick to certain places where we like know the owners or manangers etc.

Yeah, somewhere with easy airport access for most of the country.

 

The only place I know with almost no chance of a rainout or tornado or hurricane or snow is the Phoenix area… 😉

 

Everywhere else has a 33% chance of rain.

I’m not against tipping. I’m a good tipper when people do a good job. It’s the culture and I’m not anti-culture.

In this tourist mecca it is an all together different animal. A lot of the tourons feel entitled and treat wait staff like crap. The one Pancake house I go to that my friends have owned for 30 + years we always get good service. One lady who works for them has been there for 22 years now. We always tip good and treat staff with respect and dignity. We get good service too. Another example there is a local Hamburger joint up the road great burgers hot dogs BBQ etc. We go there quite a bit and the staff is outstanding. I did a to go order the other day because my wife had worked the night before. As soon as I got in there to pick up the question was "where is your wife?"  I have been in local places and they will have a new waiter or waitress and you can tell in tourist season the tourons have gotten them frazzled. I will tell them where the tourons can hear me---- Relax we are permanant locals like you are and are not a holing tourons. It will relax them and the tourons scowl. Had a touron lady tell me if it was not for them we could not live here full time. I told her BS that we survived well during the 08 09 recession and at the time I was working. I informed her that my business in trucking was not at all tourist related and we had enough permanant residents that had to eat that it did not affect my wife either. Man she scowled and stomped off.

Now my golf course is sorta different. We do have a strong membership base and are family owned and operated by 2 families. They do not do motel packages but do book some by golf now dot com and another deal with a local resort. Last spring it was crowded and I was up on the range. Had some touron jackleg make a comment about us hating it when they were in town. I told him naah that as a member I could go out early or late and if we had a member 4 some we can bump back a tee time or 2 15 minutes. I told him naah no problem because the mens and ladies leagues had priority and besides the guest traffic helped keep our membership and food rates down. 2 other members had been up on the range and the starter told us we could get a round in about an hour for then. The touron had gotten nosy and asked if we had a tee time? I told him we did not have to make a tee time that we were full time members and if we had had 4 we could bump any tee time back 10 minutes but we only had 3 so we would wait. That got his mouth in gear but I set him straight and he kinda shuffled off.

I have not been on here much this week and this is why---- Frankly I have been working my butt off ------- Played like crap last Saturday only thing I had going was the driver but not even 90% but the short irons and wedges were good. The putter was real good because our greens are pristine. I figured out I was binding myself up due to me gaining weight and not getting through the ball on full shots. Changed my breakfast eating habits right off. My real early breakfast I still eat my Ramen noodles and Texas Pete. My regular breakfast I started eating yougart and fruit with Granola. Started back doing light workouts with my weighted club but not speed training. Basically doing isometrics with holding positions. Now all this week the weather has been fantastic. I put in a serious range session about 6 hours worth with breaks Monday. You know I was serious because I had the alignment sticks out. Did the same Tuesday with 9 holes playing. I have not pushed myself as far as pain and stiffness. Got myself lined up where I can get through the ball. I am aiming right real open stance with the left foot and have the arms across the chest and am basically hitting what is called a pull cut but it is working. Still a Jon Rahm Tony Fineau half swing but with Trevino motion through the ball. Seems to be working for now. Wednesday I hit about 125 balls on the range and played 14 holes. Went home tired but not stiff or hurting. Did about 125 balls again on the range and went out at noon with 2 other members and played 18. LOL I am somewhat getting some power back and have had to refigure some distances. LOL again I had a funky thing happen. On our #1 hole a par 4 I blasted the driver had like 132 in to a back pin. This hole has a water hazard behind it. I flushed a high cut 7 iron hit the pin solid and the ball kicked forward behind the green into the hazard. One of my fellow members was in #4 fairway which is behind it saw it unfold. He told me it was the dammest thing he ever saw that it hit the pin and kicked to the left and forward. Now from the drop it was a tough up and down and I took double. I did not get mad because I did hit it good just got a bad break. Proceeded to birdie the par 5 4th hole for the second time this week. Ended up another freaky thing on our Par 5 9th. Hit my second over the hazard on like where I normally aim at but this time flushed it with the 3 wood and buried it in the lip of the bunker. Barely got that out and had a bad lie on the top of the bunker. Managed to get the next toward the green and ended up lipping out the bogey putt. Shot +3 that side. But I summerized it was part of golf that I hit 2 good shots that turned out funky and led to doubles. One of my buds said I needed to do my famous 7 wood lay up again there since I can not hit that green in 2 anyhow. Yep I told him he was right that I wanted to see if I could hit the 3 wood. Back side was uneventful shot +2 putted well but could not drop anything. I told one of my buds I figured that was as good as I can play now. Main thing I feel ok and am not stiff or hurting.

Now right now it is raining scattered showers and I told my wife I flat refuse to sit on my arse in the house and do nothing. I have  several golf umbrellas and rainsuit and can walk around the neighborhood and swing the weighted club in the yard if the course does not open. Main thing I have noticed this Am is that even though it is raining I am not stiff or hurting. I told the wife Monday that even if the weather was bad there was no excuse to sit around and play on here or watch TV. I have clothes and can walk around the neighborhood close by and come to the house and shop to rest

Naw, that's when I played the Wynn this past summer. I've actually not played Shadow Creek yet! Despite the fact that it's like 5mins from our house (Live right by Aliante) I think it's like a grand to play these days and ... yeahhhh, I don't mind spending money to play a rad course but damn near twice what Pebble Beach is? I'm gonna pass on that unless I can get in good with my fellow Summerlin members the Kang kids who are there all the time. Being an MGM endorsee clearly has its perks 😂

 

Funny you mention Christmas songs. We actually don't despite us all being huge Bad Religion fans and love their Christmas songs album. Though we just did our residency gig this past Wednesday as our last show before NYE weekend (where we're doing two looooong sets on the 30th and 31st) - about as Christmas-sy as it got was our lovely Nickole Muse being Santa Muse. In her typically inappropriate fashion.

I joined a club today. The Grille Honma Club.  Was searching and found a combo set of TR20 P/V.  Should arrive early next week.  Also added a TR20 Driver.

Honma report:

 

Still snow on the course but the range was open down at the River. 43 deg and nice sunny day. I can't give a complete report yet. I will need to hit them in a round from grass. I hate hitting on mats. A little fat and it cheats and gives you a good result. Even though it was cool I could tell they are longer than my old MP53's. I hit more fades than I am used to and noticed that they are a little too flat. I did not hit from a lie board but the marks from the mat are a little toward the toe. I also tended to have some toe strikes. I will give them a good test when the weather improves and may have them bent a couple of deg. upright. I will just do one club and then test. I played my best with a set years ago that were 2 deg. up. I am not tall 5' 8 1/2 but my swing is a little upright. I have worked on shallowing but tend to have some toe deep divots on wedges. 

 

Several of us are going to the new indoor golf place in town on Monday. I am curious to see some launch monitor numbers. My son in law had a Skytrack in his garage and I tested my Mizzys on that 2 years ago and know those numbers.

That mat mark on the sole looks fairly evenly dispersed.  Now, those ball marks toward the toe... not so sure about that.  Need to work on a dime-sized area in the center of the clubface.  At least a quarter size... okay, half dollar.  But no currency sizes any larger.
