These marketed more at high cappers?

I could not see taking something out of the bag for something like this. I have 5-6 clubs I pitch, chip with.

I normally get excited when I see "new" Odyssey" "Tank", for this, not so much.

How about "tanking" a V-Line Fang for us....?

I actually had a chance to hit this club but only off of mats and not on the course which is clearly the real test. The white hot insert does give the chipper a nice feel. I really think this club could be beneficial for those who have a problem skulling and chunking chip shots. It does have a nice feel to it with the weight and the superstroke grip is a nice addition.

You can actually put a good swing on it from about 50-60 yards. Of course, the chipper is nothing new and could give confidence to high handicappers but I don't think there is a huge market for it but time will tell.

23* hybrid is the same thing.

It is a 37* loft. Same as a 8-iron.

Ok, I'm just saying a hybrid is a good "chipper" to use if you have a shot that could be chunked or skulled.

I know plenty of people who could use this but most would let their egos get in the way.

I think it's great they put out a quality version of a club that's normally seen in a $39 garbage version.

Anybody remember the cleveland niblick. Kind of the same idea but I thought the niblick was actually marketed for all players. I hit it one time and it was great for some 40 yard-ish shots but it was a pure shovel.

I always speak up on chipper topics.

I rocked a Cleveland niblick for a half season while I battled the chipping yips.

I'd get funny looks for about 4 holes until people got sick of me tapping in for pars all the time.

there is a a small niche market for those clubs no doubt in my mind. I'm proud of the fact I got through the yips but those types of clubs can really simplify the stroke for people...

Save a place in your bag. Lots of 'chippers' in your bag already. Fairway wood, hybrid, 8, 7 iron, wedge.....................putter?! Depending on the lie.

They just are not the same though - chippers have a much shorter and more upright shaft than any other those alternatives (except the putter). Totally different to swing. If it helps you shave strokes off your game - and you would use it often enough - why not??

If the rules would allow 15 clubs to play I would bag a chipper every single round. The versatility and accuracy is enormous.

Chippers commonly come with the pejorative that are these are meant for players who are new to the game or those who can't chip very well.

That is downward stupid and short reasoning. Probably based on inaccurate heuristics or lack of knowledge at all.

I practice the short game a lot with both classic wedges as well as with a chipper. Over the years I collected 5 models. They're all pretty different in usage.

The one i like most is the Hindsight and comes from Dynacraft.

So the chipper is for fun. But in the course it proves its natural accuracy for low running shots. Much better than any sort of chipputt with any club.

It is dead accurate. However, it is not 'simple' to play. It really takes time to understand its qualities and limitations to deal with it well.

So, because it is a "chipper", it can hit better chip shots than my 9 iron, more accurate?

Silly!

And now, I have to "learn" the club and it's characteristics, and shortcomings?

I think I will stick with "normal" golf clubs

In this thread lots of people get to brag about being good at chipping

Meanwhile there are some of us who aren't

Chipping is tough. I have a buddy who played the Niblicks for a long time. No shame in a chipper.

Here's a tip though, use your putter grip and stroke on most chips and just let the loft of the club do the work, it will take your dominant hand out of the stroke and chipping will be much easier. If I'm feeling yippy I will even do it with my lob wedge. It comes out dead and trickles to the hole.

I had heard these are illegal on tour. Any truth to that?

The double sided chippers are illegal under USGA rules. I'm pretty sure the Superstroke grip may be also. Aside from those two a chipper is legal.
