Does your putter have to be "pretty"

It definitely plays a big role in my putter selection. Let's be honest, if it didn't I'd have a Ketsch or Spider Tour in my bag right now. There's just something about a well made blade that looks bad a**. The other factor is money... I can afford multiple old putters that go in and out of the bag as I find the one I like. But, I don't have the bankroll to buy the latest and greatest plus another one. I'm terrified that if I buy a Ketsch and don't like it that I'll be stuck with store credit until I can afford the Scotty... which isn't that bad now that I think about it.

But yes, I'm addicted to putter porn.

I never noticed dings on a putter until I joined this site. My first two putters in hindsight had tons, particularly on the all too critical and important top line pursuant to WRX land.

Now, I like my putters "worn in" but not abused.

I would use a soup can duct taped to end of a stick (not anchored min you) if I could make more putts.

Do you really feel that way? If so go sidesaddle. You'll no doubt take putts off if you do it correctly. I bet you could even putt better with your current putter going sidesaddle just like sam Snead did. It makes sinking putts extremely easy and consistency becomes routine

To answer the OP, yes, my putter has to look pretty to me. But then, to me "pretty" is nothing to do with age, or nicks, wear n tear etc. It is everything to do with how the overall putter looks. It might be 30 years old with bangs and nicks, brand new, shiny and plain, or look like a spaceship on a stick. Doesn't matter. I've got to love it.

Some of the prettiest putters to me are older, plain ones with plenty of 'age' showing. Like a Wilson 8813 or an original Ping Anser that's seen a million rounds. I've got both.

But then some of the prettiest are newer 'sexy' putters like some nice Bettis, or Lajosi's or Byrons. I've got a Mizuno/Betti BC2 that is beautiful as. Plain, dark and gorgeous. Also got a Lajosi that's just too nice to actually game! And an Old Master W802 with heaps of dings but is just as pretty. Just take a peek in the "putter porn" thread to see the variety of dead-set-gorgeous putters there are.

If you can find a putter that is pretty (to you) and sinks putts (for you) then it's a keeper.

Oh, and +1 to the post above about preferring blades for looks. I absolutely love the original 8802/Napa style of putter. Classic and simply beautiful. I'm starting to collect them. Even though they don't get 'gamed' as much as some of my anser style or mallets.

I am a pretty "descent putter" and take pride in keeping them looking good. Yes, mine need to be appealing to my eye and have a solid feel or they will not make the cut, it's a personal thing ...

I will not own or use one of the high MOI new style putters that's all the rage even if it shaves a few stroke, but maybe it helped Sergio!

I actually hate one that's too pretty. Can't concentrate on anything but keeping it clean . Give me a well used carbon of either stainless please. That's being said. I alwasy use a headcover and do not enjoy topline dings. I'm just talking about a pretty new black ox finish that I have to keep clean . That's annoying.

Pretty? Define pretty.

To me a putter is all about looks. If it doesn't look good to me, I'll never like it or have confidence in it and putting is 100% about confidence.

However, beauty is in the eye so...

I've been debating on whether to send my putter in to have it refinished, but I'm not sure if I can survive on a temporary putter until I get it back. This is the only club in my bag that hasn't changed in 15 years.

Do it. You'll appreciate it even more when you customize it to make it one-of-a-kind...

Yeah, I might end up doing it. Was thinking of picking up a beater online to use for a month or two...maybe three. I hear it takes Cameron quite a bit of time. is there a better place than sending it back to Cameron directly? I see all these places like Putter Lounge, BOS and Custom Putter Works.

All of them are great, but I'd send it to BOS due to the fact that they once had a close working relationship with Cameron in the past. They'll do right by it (finish) and you (pricing)...

It doesn't have to be pretty but it has to look good behind the ball.

Don't really care mallet or blade just as long as it doesn't have any dents or dings.

My putter must be the prettiest thing i own, not just the prettiest club, but the prettiest thing period. If it gets one tiny scratch or nick I'm switching to my back up while i am having it refinished.

Same here. Zero marks of any kind visible at address...maybe some very slight, barely visible to the naked eye on the bottom side type scratches, but even then it could get kicked to the back up bag. It is irrational and I cannot explain why.
