Nothing earth shattering here, but if I was at work and made a comment about the skirt length of a woman (half a century younger than me, no less) that was overhead by 1.) my bosses and 2.) my "customers"(viewers in his case), I would expect some kind of push back. Not sure how that is surprising.

 

What? It's okay to use ageism when decrying sexism, now?

 

"Decrying sexism"? Did you even read my post? I find it more unprofessional than anything else, especially due to the cringeworthy age-gap between the commentator and the woman wearing the short skirt he was focused on.

 

I do find it humorous how quickly "people shouldn't be offended so easily!" often becomes "but now you've offended me!".

 

More ageism. Okay, I guess it's just how you roll...

 

I think I've made my point clear. Some people always need to find something be offended by I guess.

It isn't, hence he was not arrested/cited. He made a comment while at work that his employer didn't like - they (very lightly) reprimanded him. This anti-PC stuff has gone to the opposite logical extreme.

I'll throw my opinion of Peter Alliss into the mix (although you may have to read between the lines :)) by talking about the greatest baseball broadcaster to ever grace the mic.

 

Vin Scully never made the broadcast about him. He did not need to show people how clever he is. It was always and only about the game.

 

Vin Scully was also acutely aware of who his audience was. He knew there were little boys and girls and grandmothers listening. He also knew there were people from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures listening, and he knew how easily a seemingly innocuous statement might be misconstrued.

 

You see, folks, Vin Scully has grace and class. He is a man of God, and he tries to live his life as such a man would. That is why he is so dearly beloved, and why he is so greatly missed here in the City of Angels. :)

While this is nice and I'm sure he was a great announcer (probably too young to have ever hear of him) that doesn't mean that people who speak their mind and add color to the commentary are any worse broadcasters. Like I said earlier, people have different styles and that's what sets them apart. If everyone did games like your boy scully it would be a very bland job that anyone could do. It's the people who can do it and add something more who are the greats. Whether that be suspense, a joke, background knowledge etc.

Agree 100%. Some people act like Alliss called for her to be tied to a pillar and stoned. While in strict legal terms, there was no crime and no State punishment, people have been terminated, demoted, or passed over for advancement by their employer for similar, non-threatening speech. There are all sorts of protections from employers, afforded to employees. Perhaps it has gotten to the point where special protection needs to be extended to employee's rights to speech.

EXACTLY! when my wife saw it she was just getting up from sitting and sort of jumped for joy one time.. my wife said " good god shes about to moon us all" which was not an exageration.... to say theres anything wrong with calling that a short skirt is as dumb as can be... and dont compare it to teh Skorts or skirts with running shorts underneath the LPGA wears... at most there was a blanket for a mouse under there....

 

reminds me of the Dave Chapelle skit.... " If your wearing the uniform dont get mad when someone notices ....... ladies That Sh*t is confusing !"....

The world needs more actual men ... not the geldings we have running around complaining about things like this.... and its a shame we as society allow the Men of our culture to be ran out of the public eye in their old age..... as if he said anything more than what every man on the property was thinking ..... its so hypocritical its outrageous... If you dont want someone commenting on your skirt length wear one long enough to not stand out... i as a Man cannot wear cutoff shorts to a certain length as i would surely be arrested for indecent exposure.. Ill tell you what i told my wife ( am 37 married at 21) when we were dating and she remarked how a doctor she worked for was "awful nice " to her...... i said " hes thinking about the same thing i am ... and you know what that is.." she looked at me shocked.. and then i said " there is no such thing as a dirty old man.... they are just old men ..same as us young men ".... thats a fact ...

 

now mind you i agree and know that we cant say what we are thinking , and i certainly dont condone lude comments being made toward women wearing certain things.. Yet i cannot agree with the outrage when someone of his age has less filter than I and lets a few choice thoughts out.... all he proved is that he has good eye sight and the Y chromosome ... nothing more..
