Is anyone still playing multiple fairway woods

I sometimes will even play multiple FW's on the same hole from relatively the same location. If you wonder how that is possible try to make contact exactly 3.8 inches behind the ball with your first try. If you still own a functioning FW post attempt number one, you can try the same shot over again. Or so I've heard.

I recently retired my 5 wood in favor of a 3 hybrid. However it may find its way back into my bag.

I use a 3w and 5w. I found I almost never used my 52* wedge so when I bought the mack daddy wedges I switched degree gaps (47* 54* 60*)to put a 5w back in.

I just bought a v steel 3 wood from play it again with the stock regular flex shaft. Holy Crap that shaft is garbage. I can't even swing through with it.

I used to have a 3W and 5w in the bag. Replaced them both with a 2h (18*). Seems there was too much overlapping with gapping. My 3W goes almost as far as my driver and the 5w only works off the tee, for me. The 2h is easy off the dech and out of the junk.

 

It all depends on how you play your game. I can't reach par 5's in two, so I'd rather have shoter reaching, more accurate clubs in the bag.

Epic SZ 3 (15 degree) and 5 (18 degree) then I go down to the Epic 4 Hybrid. Been good gapping so far and the 3 wood is mostly a tee club.

I have a diamana whiteboard 73s with a stage 2 tip collecting dust in my apartment. I currently am gaming a 07 burner tp 5 wood with an oban devotion 85 04 that might be the best club in my bag. I am wondering what head rbz stage 2 (which i am leaning towards), sldr, M1 or M2 would compare closely to 07 burner tp? This club will probably be used close to exclusively off the tee, so i am not overly worried about ease off the deck.

The heads are perfect, the stock shafts are barely good enough for tomato plants. Put your favorite shaft in there and never look back.

The trick was finding a 5 wood and driving iron that spaced properly between the 3 WD and 5 iron. A lot of it has to do with finding shafts for each that provide the distances you need and the ball flight you want. Have a Fuji F3 90 gram in the 5 wood and a PX Flighted 6.5 in the driving iron.

I just added the 5 wood to my bag yesterday. I think I have good spacing now: 14, 18, 21, 24.

I sometimes think about going 5w but love the versatility, performance, looks, and feel of my Romaro Type R 18*. Plus it gaps well both distance wise and aesthetically between 3w and my srixon U45 driving iron. Will see if I can escape the winter without tinkering with the bag.

4w then Heavenwood. Gives me good gapping and the Heavenwood is probably my most consistent club in the bag, it's just so easy to hit. Great for second shots on longer par 4's or par 5's, and an excellent tee club as well. I prefer it over hybrids, I'll just choke down an extra inch or two to take some yardage off.

Played 3/5 wood setup for many years. After adding another wedge to the bag I've gone 4w @16.5* and hybrid @19*. I rarely hit the 3 wood so I'm glad to have it gone.

I play a 15* and 17* titanium faced hybrids, then roll right to a 5 iron. The gaping it a bit bigger from the 17* to 5 iron, but it allows me more wedges. I'm normally not in between clubs when you're talking 210+ yards out.

Thinking of dropping the 3 wood and then going Driver, 5 wood, 24 degree hybrid, 28 degree hybrid, 5-GW, SW, LW. For me 3 woods are either the hero or the zero. There is no in between.

I never could hit a 3w off the deck, even using Tri-metals. As shallow as that face is, I can't get it to fly straight.

I switched from 3w/5w to 4w about 5 years ago. With slowing swing speed didn't really get much more from 3w over 5w.

I carry and 3 wood, 5 wood, and 21* driving iron.

 

I don’t consider myself a long hitter, but I go for a fair number of par 5s in two on most of the courses I play around here. Being able to hit a straight, soft landing shot from 225 or 230 is definitely worth keeping the 5w in the bag, even if I usually don’t use more than twice a round. To be honest, some of my most memorable shots were with a 5 wood.
