Is anyone still playing multiple fairway woods

I use to go with driver, 3w, 5w but dropped the 3 wood. I hit my 5 wood almost as far as the 3 wood off the tee and hit it much better and consistently off the turf. I rarely have to hit an approach shot over 230 yards and if so my odds of pulling it off consistently is low so what’s the point in having 1 club for that. Added a 64* wedge and that’s been more beneficial by far. Top off bag now is driver, 5w, 4 hybrid.

So for years and years now ive been a D, 4w, 3h, 4-P, 52, 58, Putter guy. I have recently been thinking of going back to a more traditional wood set up. I am thinking of busting out a 3 and 5 wood both for play. I have an 07 burner tp 5 wood and i just picked up an x hot 3 wood for a song. I am thinking off the tee for 3 wood and 5 wood off the deck. I was wondering who does this?

Used to be that the standard start up was D, 3,4 and 5 wood of the old lofts with all the rest Irons and a putter. The ambition back then was to drop the 4 and 5 wood in favor of the 1 and 2 Iron. Personally, I bought the Irons but never really used them. There are just too many instances where the fairways are more useful and I was never truly as good with the 1 and 2 Iron as I needed to be. Besides, a good Drive off the tee more often left you at most a mid iron or less to the green.

I used to play a 5 wood, but I switched it to a 2-iron around 2011. Tried 2-hybrids (hate), tried the 5 wood again (okay), tend to go back toward the 2 iron.

I prefer 5 woods for approaches, but 2 irons off the tee. But to me I'm not concerned with my 220+ yard approach shots just because the chances of sticking it close are low, where as with an iron I have a 60+% chance of finding the fairway.

I've been Driver, 3wood, hybrid for awhile now.

I've thought about trying a 5wood, but just can't seem to find a cheap used one to fiddle with. There are lots of 3 woods on the used racks in golf stores though lol.

Callaway X ('06) 5 wood. Have it cut down one inch and you wont regret it

I'm trying to figure out the top of my bag. I used to have an M2 5 wood, but it goes about as far as my 3 hybrid give or take a few yards. The missing club in my bag is definitely a 3 wood, I just can't decide if I'm going to keep my 3H or take it out and go 3W / 5W.

My bag is D, 3W, 3H, 3-SW (old school lofts, 21-55 deg), putter. I have a 5W, 4H and 2i (19 deg) - but they're all sitting in the corner gathering dust.

That said, it's all personal preference, the courses you play most often, and your abilities.

I played with a guy last year who had a couple woods, a couple wedges, a putter and otherwise all hybrids - makes him happy.

The last 3 wood I bought is a TM 200. For me, it’s just not a club I hit well and if I’m outside of a five wood I have a better chance laying up to a number or spot on the course that gives me a shot of getting up and down. I’ve come close to getting a strong, deep faced three wood for off of the tee only, but it’s not worth the spot in my bag.

I play two Woods at times, 3w and 5w. All depends on the course and conditions. More often then not though I’ve got two woods bagged. Although this TMB 3 iron may threaten the 5w’s roster spot, it works really well.

D, 3w, 7w, 4h for me. I found that the 3w and 5w were pretty close distance wise but like the option for a 3w off the tee on tight long holes. Having said that, my course has a lot of trees so decided to throw in a 7w just in case need to launch something high needing distance.

I’m going D, 3w and then 3h. I’d rather have more depth at the bottom of my bag. For people who hit their FWs extremely well, it might be worth it. For me, I’d rather use a 3H for the added benefit of using it out of the rough. And 48, 54 and 60 is probably a nice setup, but less chance of a full shot than with my current setup. More wedges the better IMO. The short game is a lot more versatile, the more weapons the better!

I switch around depending on the conditions, my standard setup is Driver+4W but when the weather sets in (or I'm on holidays) I swap the 4W+2i out for a 3W+5W. As many others have said, I like the versatility off the tee with a 3W and the easy launch of the 5W.

Recently picked up a 24* Macgregor NV-NX 9W, and go driver, 14.5* 3W, 9W, 5-LW, putter. With winter coming in, I'll probably go to a 19* hybrid instead of the 9W, the greens get hard and don't hold anyway, so easier to just run one in.

Usually go 3 wood 20* hybrid, but at the end of the year went 3w/5w as I kept hooking the hybrid. Much prefer the 3w/hybrid combo though.

I took a 5 wood out for a jolly yesterday - only ended up hitting it once but it was probably the best shot of a rather bleak and woeful day.

Of course like a true WRXer I took it out of the bag as soon as I got home...

A true WRXer would have jumped on the BST and bought a backup of the same club after that one good shot.

I sometimes will even play multiple FW's on the same hole from relatively the same location. If you wonder how that is possible try to make contact exactly 3.8 inches behind the ball with your first try. If you still own a functioning FW post attempt number one, you can try the same shot over again. Or so I've heard.
