True Temper Dynamic Gold 105, 115, 120

It seems like Ping is the first vendor to offer DG 120 (non-TI model) as an option.

But what confuses me is that True Temper as well as some reviewers here, say they will play to the same characteristics as the original DG.

But at the Ping custom shaft chart they put the DG120 dot way higher and to the right than original DG. As a reference they put DG AMT very close to original DG. In the table they state original DG and DG AMT as low launch low spin. But for DG 120 they specify mid launch mid spin.

Easiest answer...don't pay much attention to those charts. They do not nor have they ever quatified how they come up with their placements on those charts.

Got to use my P790 with DG 120 TI S400 for first time today when it finally warmed up to balmy low 50's. After a bucket of range balls and 9 holes under my belt with this set, I think I'm liking this set so far. I will need few more rounds before I make up my mind. Winter has been colder than usual so it might be a while before I make up my mind. One thing I like about these shafts, it's much lighter than regular DG shafts which is what I'm looking for.

I might have similar shafts installed in my 718 AP2 at a later date.

Is the butt end of the 105 the same as the standard Dynamic Gold?

I have small hands -- use .620 grips....most lightweights shafts have a large butt diameter, even as far back as the Hogan Apex shaft,

Thanks, best of luck with the launch. (I moved to Nippon Shafts my last set but may well move back to the true "standard shaft by which all are measured," the Dynamic Gold.

I am very pleased with the DG 120 S400's that I have in my Callaway MB's and wedges. Was a little unsure of the flight height during my range sessions but on the course it was perfect. Played well considering it was my first few rounds with them. I've played many versions of the PX and Modus over the last couple of years and I can already tell that these are a better fit.

I was going to test out 120 X100 in a 7 iron but don't want to mess with a good thing. If anyone is interested in a set of DG Tour Issue 120 X100's just PM me and we can work something out. All but the 7 iron are uncut. The previous owner used the 7 iron as the test shaft at standard length.

Finally Titleist has added Dynamic Gold 120 to their custom catalogue. But to my big disappointment they didn't add the Tour Issue versions.

I really wanted to buy a set of 718 T-MB with DG 120 TI x100 and a few SM7 wedges with DG 120 TI s400.

(Yes, I know about Ti vs non-TI ;-) )

Let's say someone wanted lighter in the long and short irons but variable weight throughout. At which iron would you switch between the DG AMT and DG 120? Or are you going to come out with a DG 120 AMT?

Couple options. You could go AMT Black which was made as a midweight AMT option as it ranges from 94-116g. This shaft is a mid launch/spin option though so if your goal would be to keep those numbers lower and do a mix between standard AMT and DG 120, you could do that. The progressions wouldn't be as dramatic and you would stay constant DG 120 weighting from 6-iron on though but it would still make the longer irons a touch lighter and give you another option. AMT length to weight characteristics are below.

AMT-Chart_Weights_Non-TI.jpg

How will DG 120 and DG AMT play in similar weight ranges? Which would mainly be the longer irons. Will they perform and feel almost identical?

The 105 sounds like a perfect match for a driving iron - launch, spin, and feel similar to the standard DG's, but in a weight similar to the graphite shaft offerings generally found in driving irons.

True Temper, was that what you had in mind with this offering? Are you seeing it being tested on tour in this type of application?

Anyone know if the 105 "black" versions are a "TM only" offering or if we will ever see them out there for purchase?

Why are 105's on Pings site 10 grams lighter and are labeled as Mid-high flight?

Probably signifying “cut” weight as opposed to what they are raw.

As far as “trajectory”, I dislike evrything about how OEMs derrive those charts and classify them. Using it is useless IMO as eveyone has their own thoughts on where they fall on an arbitrary chart. No method to that madness.

I have the DG115 in my previous set of wedges that I just replaced this year. I liked the shaft as it felt familiar to me but lighter so I could excute more touch shots. I had DG105 in my irons so it was a good match to me, but I will say the Dg115 feels like it balances out lighter swingweight wise than the 105 if that makes sense. Overall the DG105 felt tip heavier. Feel wise the DG115 felt ever so slightly brittle compared to other DG offereings. I eventually switched to new wedges that came with Modus 125's and the feel is so much more solid and trajectory is just as high if not higher.

I have the 115 in my wedges now. I played all last year with them and I really like them. They have the right weight and feel for my preference. I had the 120 S300 in my PW to see if that would keep flight down but it felt harsh compared to the 115. The 115 feels like DG to me but the 120 was much less smooth.

I have used DGSL S300 soft-stepped a couple of clubs. It gives me, essentially an R+ flex. Unfortunately there is this thing called "age". Now that I am 69, I feel like I need something just a bit more flexible as I have seen about a 1.5 - 2 club drop off in distance ovber the last couple of years. My biggest issue is I tend to hit a high ball (relative to the distance I get) so I need a shaft that helps keep the ball down rather than get the ball up. The DGSL has been great! The obvious answer is to switch to DGSL R300, soft-stepped 2 clubs which would be a very soft R / hard A flex. The problem is the DGSL is discontinued (if I act fast I can still find some taper tips for my MP-60s), The replacement seems to be the DG 105s. My question is the performance characteristics of the DGSL vs the DG 105 in similar flexes (R300 in both). Looks to me that the 105s would have a higher launch angle... no?? Thanks!

DG 105 is tip stiff so a slightly lower flight.  The Nippon is a softer shaft and I felt it hit the ball very much similar but a little higher.

I thought I hit them both the same length with a 7 iron.

The claim is that the Nippon is "new" metal and the tube is drawn in one piece.  Being from an engineering background I don't see what difference that makes.

The price is a factor too.  The Nippon is more expensive.
