back in his time, back in his prime, this was IMO the best swing around... Elk moved like he was born to have a club in his hands...

Johnny certainly had it going on in his day. The flowing blonde hair, the all American looks, the 1000 watt smile, the stylish clothes, the athletic swing. A marketers dream. If he hadn't lost his game he would have made Tiger like endorsement money.

Love it! Back before fantasy leagues were even a thing, a friend and I would pick teams for majors and have various bets. My oldest daughter was just barely old enough to understand what we were doing but he let her in on it with a "hat or no hat" bet where she could pick whether the winner was or wasn't wearing a hat (a few more bare headed then). Well, she picked hat, thought she lost a dollar (guess who would have to give it to her, lol) but in the mail right after the tournament he sent her that picture cut out of (wait for it) the NEWSPAPER with an arrow drawn to his head and a note that said "no hat, you win!" Don't know why, but that sticks with me.

 

One of the favorite final rounds (at least what they were showing then) I've seen - really was pulling for Crenshaw.

Newspaper? I remember those things. A kid, or an incredibly immature man, would toss newspapers in driveways.

 

 

I think Ben nudged out Love, Norman and Haas in that final round.

 

Penick was a nice man, a class act and had a special "human understanding" of the game. His two best students Kite and Crenshaw are the result of no nonsense instruction and solid fundamentals.
