Any news on the Next Titleist Driver???

Recommended Posts

Just a note. Proprietary info has been deleted. Looks like a possible hack, but it was obviously not finished product. We'll look into it for you guys. Thanks!

That's strange, because I signed up for the email alerts and got a confirmation from Titleist themselves including photos with the working link yesterday.

Someone hacked their web server, created a new page, and sent out an email to subscribers? Seems unlikely. I think someone hit the nail on the head a few posts up. Trying to create hype.

Weird. That Titleist link posted above is dead now.

The link to the Titleist site is dead (can still see it if you cache the URL though) and also the pics that were pasted into this thread have now been removed (the pics are still there in the Jimmy Walker thread).

This is either Titleist's online guys going live too early, or an even more embarrassing attempt by Titleist to fabricate some buzz by floating something and then pulling it. And I'm a Titleist guy, just look at the sig.

This is either incompetence or lame PR. Not a good start.

Please post here or send pm me some of the photos if you have them cache'd and can still access.

It wasn't a hack. It came up from a simple google search. It was a landing page on their main website. They were testing it is my guess. I was able to sign up and even get a confirmation email.

I have the email confirmation as well direct from Titleist - with a few photos and a short blurb. My guess is this site just went live a bit too early.

At any rate, looks like these will begin your seeding at the US Open Arne shinnecock which seems strange to test a new driver at a major but could work in their favor if a lot of guys put it in play.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the TS2 has the 915 weight system and the TS3 has the SureFit CG?

Wow, agree on the TS2, was always more of a fan of the 915 than 917 and good to see the black head.

The 915 series is still solid. I still use the 16.5* fairway and the 21* hybrid. Would have been nice if they could have re-used the 915 weights, but I guess Titleist wants to sell all-new weight kits as well.

I think they design the weight shape on what will ascetically be the most pleasing with the design of the club. I doubt they are changing the weight shape to make a small amount of money on new weights.

I think you're crazy - the weights have changed with every iteration from the 910-917. There's no aesthetic reason they couldn't have gone back to one of the 910-913-915 weights - they just want to sell new weights. And I say that as a Titleist fan.

I have a few different weights i got from ebay and aliexpress for my 915 (have the 915D2, 915f & 915h). not paying $80+ for the weight kit they sell for the 915 and wouldn't pay $180+ for the 917 weight kit. now two drivers with two different types of weights?

*edit - titleist fan boy also.

I just don't see how selling a a minimal amount of weights is a good business model especially when they swing weight clubs at no cost. People in this thread mention how little drivers they actually sell, if that is true (and I believe it to be), and they give you any weight you want at time of purchase for no additional cost, then how is selling a few weights worth the time? They don't even make the weight kits accessible. I mean I get it, money makes the world go round. My point is, if they feel a 2.833 cm shaped Hexagon looks better on the new club than the 2.78 cm Hexagon that was on the 915. Then I think they would say "F the 915 weight hoarders we want what looks better so we sell more drivers" rather than "F the 915 weight hoarders we want to make $12,000 profit this year on new weights".

Truth is, you have no idea how little or how much they make from selling weights. The simplest explanation is that the weights are cheap for them to make, sold at ridiculous mark-ups, and it gives them some incremental profit vs. re-using prior weight designs that consumers could just re-use. Aesthetics? That's just being naive.

Maybe it is because I order my Titleist drivers from green grass, but when I order them at lengths less than standard Titleist always installs the heavier weight in the head to make the swing weight standard before they ship it and they provide the extra weight kit too. I've owned the last five or six models and don't ever remember adjusting the weight in the head.

Do you think they would sacrifice the appearance of the club based on the weight shape? Only one of the two new drivers even has the new weight shape, we are talking a drop in the bucket of profit here.

910 weight was the first removable weight they used in a head, it was round with no cosmetic lines bordering it or outlining it.

913 they tried to spice things up by making it a more flowing shape and even added some lines coming off it.

915 all the lines of the head are shaped and formed from the weight.

TS2 they appeared to try and make the weight shorter so they could push it back into the head and also made the sides wider so again the lines of the club could flow off the weight.

Saying all weights should be the same shape is like saying a car manufacture should use the same headlight shape for 4 variation models of the same car. They don't do that, they change the shape of the headlight to flow with the body, not to sell more headlights.

Weights aside the real question is will the screw that holds it in be the same or will i have to throw away all of my other wrenches and use a new one.

My guess the weights are nothing more than a after thought. Yes they fine tune the driver no they don't care that the small market doesn't like the price to purchase after the fact. I can't imagine it's high on anyone's P/L spreadsheet. Did you receive a proper fitting? Did you order the correct shaft? Oh, you bought it on WRX BST and ordered a shaft from Will? Warrantly is void, moving on...
