Playing golf in Vancouver Canada (NO POLITICS!)

Did anyone on here play the Vancouver Golf Tour event at University Aug 3?

I played with my senior men's club (teeing off late morning)  and thought the greens were playing quite a bit slower than they have been. Good condition, but slow.   I thought I would be somewhat miffed if I paid the VGT pricing to play it.

I just found this thread.  I live a close distance south of Vancouver, in Bellingham.  Great folks there... I love White Rock.  I totally enjoy playing with Canadian golfers... Shuksan, North Bellingham, Lake Padden.  Why would there be any politics?

welcome to the thread. You’ve got lots of great courses down your way. Some here used to go down a lot pre-pandemic.

I was hoping to get down this summer but will have to wait until next.

Playing Pagoda...errrrr.....Green Tee tomorrow.

It's been over a year so I'm excited to see what they've done with the place so far.  Expectations are low, but the mind is open haha.

so how was the pretend wanna be private Course?

It was interesting.  Last time I played there the conditions were AWFUL (I think this was summer 2021 or 2020? Can't remember for sure) and were bad enough that I didn't go back until today.

The course is the same as before.  They've added a bunch of fountains, they've renovated the bathrooms which are now super fancy (even the ones on the wall above #10 green), and the course conditions were quite good actually.  The great wall has been cleaned and repainted.  Heck, even the scorecard was quite fancy haha. That said, we paid $100 today and I'd expect a polished course at that price.  The routing is different and the tractor ride through the gulley is no more - the great wall hole is now #10.

I keep hearing big things for the future, and I saw enough today that I believe they truly are going to sink a TON of money into it over the next couple years.  I just struggle to see how they are going to become some crazy high-end private course from where they are now.   I mean, even their new moto "Beyond Luxury, enhance your life" is a stretch to say the least.

Good review. I can’t see it being a destination course where it is for the prices they will want to continue to charge to make a profit, but who knows.

Beautiful day at Mara Hills today.. I'm glad I love the place as I should have thrown the scorecard away after 4 holes 😆

Massive changes are happening up there.. makes me sad as it's always been my little hideaway gem that not many play

New owners have purchased it and are investing millions into a 150 site rv park plus a marina has been put in..I had to wait 3 separate times on one  hole because of all the traffic on the cart path hauling loads of people up from the marina

They had a stag party out in front of us one group had 6 guys in it and another in front of them had 8

They couldn't have sent my party of 2 out in front of these jokers..

Anybody a member or played at Capalano? I will be playing there in late September and have been looking forward to it all summer. Just wanted to know what to expect?

Thanks

It is spelled Capilano. If you Google it you will find flyover videos etc.

I have not played it though I walked it as a spectsator during one of the early Seniors Tour events. So other than knowing it is top notch with great views, no iother help I'm afraid.

Ive played it only twice but Cap is amazing.  AMAZING.  The back 9 especially is so much fun.

It has all the vibes of a mountain course, but maintains all the staples of a classic golf course.

Thanks looking forward to it. We are also doing shaughnessy the day before as well. Pretty much spending the next month prepping for it.

Lucky guys. Enjoy.  I assume you are flying, so  packing an umbrella probably  isn ‘t an option.  But if you  can choose between bringing spiked or not shoes, you might want to bring the spiked in case it is wet.  That said, sometimes we get the best weather in September.

So these clubs are taking visitors now? There was no way we could get on back in May.

Assistant pro at shaugnessy is from Winnipeg and knew him from junior golf/hockey. Capalano was suppose to happen in 2020 but the pandemic postponed it for two years

Went to Point Roberts (Bald Eagle golf club) for the first time since before Covid, and unfortunately its a bit of a goat track out there now. Was shut down for 2 years, so I guess they can really only do so much, but hopefully it will turn around in the fall/spring. Its still a great challenge, as you either hit the fairway or you lose your ball, no in between. There is one hole with a temp green, but all of the greens are in pretty good shape.

That being said, its just $40 USD all day, and is very quiet out there. Went out at 4pm yesterday and there were just 3 of us on the entire course. The lady said most people just don't wanna deal with the ArriveCan app, but its all straight forward. Having picked up multiple packages now down there since the reopening, the border waits are pretty minimal as well (10-15 min max during peak). Zero waits for Nexus card.

Calm down Bud. Its called auto correct

Am calm. Was just trying to be helpful should you mispronounce while here and someone corrected the oversight (like a member at Capilano. Some are sensitive to that I understand, though the more common mispronunciation is "Capilino".)  But you didn't acknowledge the other two  posts in which I tried to provide some tips to your very non -specific "what to expect" first post besides commenting on the spelling observation.  I probably should not have mentioned the spelling error again but I was not trying to be rude. However I think your response bordered on that.

I do hope you enjoy your visit.

I get that there are people out there who can't use the app, but I suspect most complainers are more than capable of using it. I've used it many times now and it has never taken more than 2-3 minutes to complete.

Capalano, Capilano.  I said them both out loud 10 times and couldn't tell a difference.  (Now, if you turn the final syllable into "lino" there definitely is a different sound)
