I think I'd move there if I got the invite. Maybe camp outside the Butler Cabin.

I don't think there is a limit, once invited...... what I don't know is can you bring your own foursome???? Can you bring your dad, caddie, best friend SCHLEY??????? I'm sure there has to be maybe some rule that you can bring 1 foursome, from then on only yourself can actually play????

You can definitely bring a guest - I know a few guys who wrangled this invite this year; but I think it’s just one per trip.

Once you win it, and are afforded Green Jacket status, do you get unlimited playing rights? Can Speith for example just rock up and play whenever he wants (subject to course being open)?

I believe winners are granted some type of membership. I'm not sure if it's full dues paying status or more of an "honorary" thing.

Is it still a rule that green jackets are not to be removed from the grounds?

I don’t think so Sergio Garcia wore his to Wimbledon, unless it was a replica like trophys sports teams have in their trophy cabinet

If you win you are allowed to take it off the grounds for the one year you are champion. After thats up you have to bring it back where it then stays in your locker and is never allowed to leave again unless of course you win again.

That can’t be entirely accurate. They showed players getting out of cars at the clubhouse wearing their jackets for the champions dinner. I had always heard that too, but they have to leave the property at some point otherwise they would be wearing dress shirts walking in then put their jackets on inside.

Tiger said he was able to play Augusta last week. Can anyone playing in the masters show up and play any time in the weeks leading to the masters?

They generally play with a local member. Normally it’s the marker (Jeff Knox) that plays with these pros. He took Rory out about a month ago and beat him. Granted Rory gave him a few strokes.

Yea I was wondering about that too. I only saw Nicklaus and Player already wearing theirs on the way in. My theory is Player wore the one he kept and never returned and Nicklaus might have one from before the keeping the Jacket at Augusta policy was instituted (if it hasn’t been a policy since day 1).

I don’t know that ANGC grounds well enough, but is there another location on site they might have been at and were driven from there to the clubhouse?

A replica jacket is made that you get to keep and wear off the property for one year as champion. After that it's returned to the club and you can only wear it on property.

Jack and Arnie were given membership status

Invitees can play as much as they like during the invite timeline

Former champs can play but then not allowed guest except at following Sunday prior to Masters win year removed

Many members invite tour pros and their friends to play quite often ( example tour pro Chris Riley has played there 3x this year with Tiger and 2 members)

Frowned upon for even members to play too much ... so be careful

Right, like some of the other crazy exclusive golf clubs (for example Robert Trent Jones and Caves Valley in my area), ANGC cannot be your primary club. I believe you have to have at least one membership to another club (and I assume it needs to be a prestige club) that is intended to be your primary club. My understanding is that even Knox, a local, does not use ANGC as him primary club (makes me wonder where his primary is).

If I remember correctly (always a big question), I think it was Tom Watson shortly after he won, tried to bring a group on and was mildly rebuked. It seemed like they have some privileges, but not like a full member?

Its been a long time so my memory could certainly be off.

Shank, I think this story relates to one of the British Open courses; something like the evening after Watson won the Open on that course (and after a few drinks) he showed up with some other pros (Weiskopf and others?) and tried to play the course. He and the others were escorted off the course as they were not members. Can’t remember which course, though.

Thanks 15, with my memory that could be what I was thinking of. I really thought I remembered that about Augusta but I certainly wouldn't swear to it.

I'm pretty sure that would be Muirfield, possibly 1980.

There are variants of this story with Tom Watson at Muirfield, Pine Valley, and Augusta. One of them might be true..

Hard time believing these guys wouldn’t know the protocol to play a private course ... plus hard time believing a private course would escort an Open winner to any where aside the 1st tee
