In hand photos of the Ping i500 irons (MERGED)

The picture alone is enough to convince me to return my p790...thank gawd (or Dunn) for 90 Day return policy!

 

While this is not a direct replacement of the s55, I have not found a set comparable to how the s55 played - consistent, workable and plenty of forgiveness for its size. PING knows how to make "player's" irons for wannabes like me! :)

Let me start by saying I am Ping iron fanboy and that I love the look of these irons but I am still confused with the numbering convention. I understand trying to pull some business away from p790 and T-MB but where do Ping loyalists fall with these irons? Do the iblade/s-series player gravitate to these for more distance and the "forged" feel or are these more for the traditional i-series player who want to play a blade but needs more distance and is willing to giveup more forgiveness?

 

From the pictures, the head looks more squat than i210 and with a narrower sole and less offset which is the definition of less forgiving which is counterintuitive to the "500."

I've heard size of i200 but obviously thinner....ever so slightly bigger than iblade?

How do these compare to the iblades or s-55's in regards to their overall size? Are they larger like the i200's, or more compact???

Any idea what the headweight is without the toe screw please. Swingweight has been a big issue for me and I'm hoping this system will allow them more scope to accommodate longer clubs

Was thinking about the weighting issue as well. With no tuning port to adjust weights how will they do it with these? Obviously if they are hollow hot melt to add weight, but how do you go lower? Perhaps they have different weighted screws?? “Standard” screw is like 8 grams but you can go down to 2 gram. That would allow a 3 SW point drop, or 1/2 inch over at no SW increase.

They do look nice. Not crazy about the lower toe area bulging out a bit.

 

Basically a PXG 0311T fighter I guess. No magic goo inside though. Too bad.

Looks great. A little too small heel to toe for me as I'd need a little more forgiveness than that. Definitely great looking though.
