In hand photos of the Ping i500 irons (MERGED)

My S56s are getting tired. These look very similar,

 

maybe a slightly more beveled sole?

 

First irons I have seen in 8 years I am interested in.

Nope. Nice try. PING still replaces clubs on an 18 month cycle. The G700 seem like a one-off set which they occasionally do. They stagger releases so new irons are released once or twice per year. The Glide 2.0 were released a year ago and they always have a few models of putters. Nothing new here and Ping clubs will continue to hold their value.

It looks to be more of an iBlade replacement than anything else, in which case it has been about 2 years since that model was released.

 

Also, I'd like to go ahead and pre-order. Now.

Honestly when we saw the proto pics without the badging they looked really good and I thought the badge would make them look cheaper but they don't at all. I actually like the badge on these.

 

When we had out Ping demo day a couple weeks back the fitter mentioned these and said they will be LONG, longer the TMB, P790, etc.. It seems like that's what they were trying to do with model was make a super long hollow body design iron.

Interesting. I just spoke with my local Edwin Watts. They contacted Ping for me and were told that pre-orders were not being taken until around the middle of July when the demo heads become available.

Im not blown away as Im sure they are nice as I don't ever see them finding a way into my bag, too plain and lettering to big. Oh well if I still had my s55's I wouldn't trade for them either and not about to let my P790's get away as they are some serious looking set of irons.

 

I think these compete nicely with the P790s, which I just got yesterday. Ping always made nice irons.

 

Finally, see Ping made a nice successor to their last Forged Irons, the 2013 Ansers. Congratz Ping, well done with these i500s!

What's with the hosel? Is that a swing weighting thing so they can have people with different sized mouths taking bites of the clubs at the production line and use that together with screws of different weight to adjust the SW to different shafts while keeping the balance of the club [i.e. smaller bite + heavier screw or bigger bite + lighter screw]?

 

The clubs look awesome! I wish the problems with my game could be solved by buying newer gear :)

I had to go back and look at the pics, I missed it the first time. But yes, it looks like an iron that comes into contact with golf balls, the earth, and other clubs in the bag is no longer showroom new.

The silhouette of these irons looks awesome. Definitely interested to see the specs.

Question, not sure if it's been posed, seeing that these appear to be more of a distance iron (ala p790 or TMB), is there any word on an iblade replacement? Something to piggy-back off this design, but with a full body construction?

That's part of Ping's normal design to make it easier to adjust lie angles.

I truly like the look of them but probably will not buy them. Could be just a wee bit small for what I generally look for in an iron. Hard to judge them though without comparison pics.

I would say that they are noticeably smaller, particularly in the scoring irons.

I really hope they aren’t super long. Standard lofts with some forgiveness and a solid feel would be perfect

I’m currently playing MP-53s but am feeling like I need something a little more forgiving. I haven’t hit any of this breed of hollow iron, know they say they are forged so two questions really:

 

Are they likely to be more forgiving than my MP-53s?

 

How is the feel compared to a more traditional forged club?

 

Have to say, these have caught my eye in a big way and the last time I said that about a Ping iron was about 20 years ago when I bought a set of ISI’s. Can’t wait for them to get to stores.
