Do you see any Wilson Staff in bags where you play?

I know of two people that currently play the Wilson Staff FG 59 irons. One of the most gorgeous sets of blades. Ever. One player lives in Western PA outside of PIttsburgh and the other in Western MD.

Hi GR? Yes, even though I’ve gotten him the Tour Fg F5’s, along with the MP-25’s, these still sit in his bag as it sits from his last competitive round, which ironically was our district regional BB tournament together. I don’t think he’s accepted that these blades may be beyond him when he returns. We’ll see. I do believe that these and the iron that they were patterned after, the 1976-1978 Tour Blades(that’s it, that was their name) are the finest irons that Staff has ever produced. I hope that you’re well. Oh yes, I’m a WS Staffer and those are my Fg Tours below his picture :)

Oh lawddddd.......??

Try finding them in excellent condition...I can't. Nobody is selling them...and I don't blame them either...probably the best looking blades ever. I'll keep looking though.

I feel your pain, I am looking for a back up set!

Summer in Colorado/Winter in Phoenix, have yet to see anyone gaming them. There is a pro shop in CO that carries them but I haven't seen any on the course.

Let's not start a bidding war now! While I like the 100's...I prefer the 59's. I was an idiot not to buy these new. I think I got sucked into Mizuno blades which are great clubs...but they just don't look like the 59's.

Wilson probably spends the least money on advertising, and certainly they don't hype clubs like others. As such, folks gravitate to the other brands because marketing and hype works.

The FG59's are quite a bit more squat like in their appearance and with that nice chunk of metal behind the sweet spot they feel soft but solid, best I have ever felt, and yes I have owned Mizuno and currently own the Miura baby blades.

It seems like Wilson tends to make their clubheads shorter, heel to toe, than other manufacturers. That is certainly the case with my V4’s and the F100’s that I’ve seen. They’re very compact little heads. Do the V6’s share the same trait?

  • 2 weeks later...

Ever since a college girlfriends father gave me a set of 1968 Fluid Feel Dynapower irons I have been on and off a Wilson guy. Through the years I played the Fatshaft Deep Red irons, a set of forged Progressives and the legendary Gooseneck irons. My current set are the black M3 forged irons.

Unfortunately I don’t see many others playing these fantastic irons, they guys I play with know them though! Lol

We have several members at my club who play the Wilson V4's and a few who bag the Wilson V6's. I play the Wilson FG100's. Doesn't mean that Wilson has captured a large market share here in Louisville, KY. but they certainly have found a small percentage who use their products which is surprising since we don't have a local golf shop that carries Wilson.

I am a nearly full convert. See my signature. The C300 driver just wants to go stupid straight. The game improvement 4 Iron with 21 degrees of loft I can hit 250 off the tee and the forged c300 irons feel so amazing and are extremely forgiving. These are the best irons I have ever used. Last iron set was Adams CMB

Btw I see no one else in my area (west gta ) who plays Wilson.

Not sure if I commented on here earlier but there's a few WS guys at my course. Granted I'm in the Chicago area so there's a lot of presence but when I worked as a club fitter, I would have people try the WS products especially the irons and they'd really be impressed by them. Personally, I own WS FG Tour V4's and really love their look and feel. I don't game them because I just can't quit my Adams XTD forged but if I didn't own those, I'd game the FG's.

I was playing at a local qualifier for the Illinois Mid-Am and saw 2 guys playing FG's also and one guy gaming the 100's. Overall, they're an under the radar company due to marketing as others have said but when you look at the products they put out and how well they last (owned my V4's for almost 4 years now and they look great) along with the technology and price point, they really can keep up with the big boys.

Sadly, they get a bit too deep into gimmicks with the red crowns and the whole Driver vs Driver thing but their irons really are awesome!

And now I've talked myself into picking up a set of V6's...

Does having a W/S bag but no clubs count? :D They're making some great bags these days

Just bought a Nexus cart bag to replace a TM bag that has collapsed. Early impressions are that it is very well made and will be durable.

If you are a ball striker at ALL, you'd LOVE the new Wilson clubs. We've been advertised to death by the big 3 or 4 manufacturers and you are crazy if you just assume Wilson is behind the times. Their new forged irons feel great.

I can attest to this. I went for a fitting last night and had in my head the Srizon 765s all the way. The fitter took out some comparable clubs, which included the C300 forged and I was thoroughly impressed. I had heard about the V6 Tours and thought they looked really nice, but was not expecting much from the C300 Forged. They felt fantastic off the face when struck well and put up some pretty good numbers all around. They are very similar to the Srixons in terms of being relatively under the radar with a nice price point.

Few of the comparable irons we were able to narrow it down to were the 765, MP18 SC, Rogue Pro and C300 Forged. All feel great.

Have a Wilson Staff Golf bag, but it is no longer used.

Fg 59 Tour Blades- RH Only.

FG Tour 100 Forged - RH Only.

Supposedly, this FG Tour 100 iron was to mark Wilson's Centennial (100 years) in Golf.

Wilson closed the link to their Custom Department in 2014.

"Due to retirements and employee turnover, we are no longer able to provide this service. It was a corporate decision."

So, it's 2018.

If you were looking for a LH Forged blade iron from Wilson at Demo Days, because you were happy with their past offerings in LH golf equipment- like this 1969 Wilson Staff Dynapower iron.

After 100 years, Wilson put up a "CLOSED" sign.

Odd how Wilson is so highly regarded in sports like tennis where so many elite players use their equipment. But in golf, although widely recognized as quality gear, so few play their clubs.

The biggest contributor to the decline of the brand has been attributed to the cheap box sets in mass merchants, but that didn’t hurt tennis where you still see $20 Wilson racquets at WalMart.

Good point. Tennis and golf equipment are similar in that they are both niche markets, and there are comparable numbers of manufacturers in each sport. Yet in tennis Wilson is a leader but not so in golf even though their equipment is top notch. And it's not like they heavily market their tennis stuff. I have been watching the US Open all week and haven't seen a Wilson commercial. Although in tennis a large part of brand recognition is watching the pros - it is very easy to see what kind of racquet each player uses.

BTW, in golf I use W/S Tour Blades, and in tennis my favorite racquet is my Wilson ProStaff Mid 85. Just like my irons, it is a classic throwback, small, thin beam, small sweet spot, but great control and feels like buttah.
