MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

i'll tell you the worst place to go right now: the liquor store. People have to go there. A lot of people rely on it. So sick or not sick a lot of people are going. The liquor store by my house a lot of guys who are essential and who stop by after work each day to pick up just a six pack or something. I've been once a couple weeks back and don't plan on going again for a WHILE. IF i really want to buy more beer I may just call up the members grill at turf and negotiate a reasonable rate for 24 beers or something.

It hasn't been really great golf weather but it's been great work outside weather. I tilled at least 1000 sq ft so my wife can plant some wild flowers. It's exhausting. And really really pleasant. I cut back a lot of plants that were wildly overgrown. I've been cutting my lawn in sections because i enjoy it so much. Lolz. the yardwork has been awesome.

It's probably not on everyone's radar but lego masters on Fox was really really fun. We've DVRed it every Wednesday night and watched as a family on Thursday night. My son has been building some really really cool stuff after being inspired by the show.

that said my missing golf has really ramped up the past couple days. I'm kinda grateful the weather the next several days is "meh"

I'm almost feeling fortunate that I am physically unable to play. This is my favorite time of year to play. It would be killing me to otherwise lose March/April/May golf to this damn virus.

Last time we went we got a case of beer and a case of wine.

I'm REALLY forcing myself to curtail my drink. 1 per night most nights. I swear I could drink a 6 pack a day and not even think about it.

I do not miss golf, but I will play again when courses open.

I haven't been outside since last saturday, and I didn't get out of my car during that trip. I walked down to our front desk for a package last night and it was disorienting.

Logged 28 hours on the guitar the past two weeks. Feeling good about the progression. Need new picks.

Not a big drinker, but I haven't had a gummy in probably 2 weeks. Can't play the guitar if I eat a gummy.

Worked up to it and now sitting in butterfly pose 2-3 times a day for 10 min each. Good little mid-day meditation. I'll miss being able to do that once we go back to the office in 2024.

Switched to left-handed.

Haven't shaved my face or head in 6 weeks.

It'd be a shame if when this ended people had nothing to show for their time*. golfer827 launched his merch line. What have you done?

*if you have no kids.

After my mid-quarantine switch to CBX2's - I will have 50, 56 (bent to 55), and 60.

My PW is extension of my Rogue Pro's with 45* loft.

Depending on how my experience is with the CBX2s when I hit the course, I might go 46 (bent to 45) CBX2 to replace my Rogue Pro PW.

Speaking of gummies, there's a dispensary somewhat near my house (right next to WM if anyone has ever noticed, right after the 270 ramps going towards WM) that has been absolutely SLAMMED everytime I've driven by it.

Seems like they've worked out a drive through system to limit contact, which is great. I know many people rely on that for pain and anxiety management.

46, 50, 54, 58.

I don't work for NASA but I feel like that's a mathematically efficient gapping.

willboyrd I considered bending the cbx to 45 but the sole of that club is the biggest advantage. I came to the conclusion that any small benefit I would get by bending the loft 1* strong would be less than the benefit I lose of changing the bounce by 1*. And that the positive or negative effect of bending 1* was so minimal that I would never even notice. So it was easier to do nothing. I haven't yet hit a shot with the PW and thought it would have been better if it was 45 instead of 46

I don’t miss golf as I know we’ll be able to play eventually. I’ve worked from home with my new job since last January so this is nothing new for me except slightly more people at home. I pretty much stay in my office during work hours like I had been doing. The weekends is tougher since I’m not looking at any work but I’ve spent time playing with the kids and watching HGTV.

Wedge play after PW. 50, 54, 58.

If I think about years past, around this time of year the weather is typically not that great and the courses are usually rebounding from tough winters. Historically I seem to play more winter and summer golf than April, which could match up with being busy at work. It's likely that MD will relax restrictions on golf courses once we get to a certain number of tests or an r-value target. Worst part? Seeing the Q2 food minimum and annual range fee hit my statement this month without being able to reap most of the services they're paying for.

I have a few grips being delivered today just as an exercise in boredom management but mentally it's peaks and valleys. Some of the guys in club emails are continuing to act like toddlers about this and I'm glad I know now to never associate with them again.

Today was a huge sigh of relief. The wife was about to be deployed to the ICU at AAMC but she just got word she's going to be moved to general hospital support next week. Exelon just announced remote work requirements through June 1, I'm going to have a buttload of vacation to use after that.

That's something I definitely took into consideration when deciding to bend the 56 to 55. It's still a lot of static bounce on a fairly wide sole so we will see. Easy enough to bend it back I suppose.

Excited to get on the course with them

I go 45, 50, 54, 58 - seems to work fine. Working on a Larry Cheung wedge drill right now thats definitely helped me get some better contact around the greens - especially when its mushy out.

i go 46 50 54 60.

I don't care about gapping in the last two because I never take full swings with my highest lofted wedge unless it's a flopper and then I want the 60 anyway.

two years ago when it was really wet, I used a 58 with high bounce. My 60 has very low bounce and I use it when things get tricky.

Any opinions, good or bad, on Montgomery Country Club? My friend is a member and told me he is going to refer me and set me up with a free round, etc. once things open back up

Haven't played there in over 10 years when my son used to work there. Decent layout, fairly long. I seem to remember it being in good condition every time I played it

Guys, it's okay to miss golf. We're nerdy golfers on a message board. I'm not buying that nobody misses it. Kthx.

Wedge Talk Friday -

WTF: I've got 45, 54, 60, and 64. PW is my Mizzy (RIP) hot metal. I have a Cally MD4 54* and PM Grinds for the 60 and 64. The gapping looks dumb, but my distances are fine. Full swing for my PW is 120ish and for my 54 it's 100-105. My 50* GW provided no value to me, so I replaced it with a 64* that I get to use a couple times a round. I get in enough trouble where I'm short-sided that the 64* is valuable enough for a roster spot.

Drill/tip - he talks a lot about how people have a tendency - me - to play a lot of their chips with too square a face and in the mush it can accentuate the leading edge digging in. Opening your stance a bit and opening the face a fraction allows the bounce to have a better chance.

Excellent YT channel.

Finally watched 1917 last night. I dont know how good Parasite was but it must have been a damn good movie to beat out 1917 for Best Picture. Incredible movie.

Also 5 episoides into Zero Zero Zero, which I think is an 8 episode limited run show on Amazon. I had planned on watching the new season of Bosch but got sucked into this instead. Italian organized crime meets Mexican drug syndicate with a splash of Middle Eastern terrorism. So far its really good.

Parasite was really really good, but haven’t seen 1917 so I can’t compare the two.

Parasite crafted suspense so organically, not to mention the plot was really ingenious and as soon as you felt like you knew what was coming, hit you with some WTF.

I gotta check out 1917.

Havent' seen 1917, but I plan on it.

Watched Underwater over the weekend. This is that K-Stew movie that's sort of a horror/thriller at the bottom of the ocean. I have no problem with an underwater horror thriller with K-stew running around in her panties -- that's what I signed up for -- but I just thought the action was filmed really poorly and the director did not do a good job of creating tension and horror. "Crawl" is much better for a throwback thriller thing. Or just watch Alien again, which is what this movie wanted to be.

Or if you want to see some racy K-Stew, check out Personal Shopper. That's a better movie, too.

I started the Michael Jordan thing. I wasn't going to -- I mean, it's 10 hours long. Come on. Is Ken Burns "Civil War" even that long? -- but it's off to a good start and that was a time I was really into the NBA so I love all those clips and seeing the old players.

Also started the Atlanta Child Murders doc on HBO. That's good too.

After a nice easy hike with the family at Middle Patuxent Environmental Area, we drove past Fairway Hills in Columbia. Nice group of about 5 people and their dogs running all around on 16 green with another what looked like a family having a picnic on 18 tee box. I guess idled golf courses are the new place to be for folks. Just wish they would stay off of greens.

Anyone in or near Howard county and is looking for a place to walk with the kids I recommend MPEA. Easy walk on obvious trails, no giant hills with some nice scenery. Approx. 2 miles so enough to wear out kids without wearing out Mom and Dad.
