I'm so glad I learned this lesson early in life.

 

There was this guy named Dan in the first office where I ever worked. I can still picture him recounting his Sunday round every Monday.

 

He used the fingers of both his tanned, bony hands to recount his strokes in relation to par. So if he parred #1 you'd see two fists as he started his breakdown. If he birdied #2, he'd point one finger at the floor. Whoops, bogeyed #3, so now it's back thru fists to one finger pointing at the ceiling. Etc and so forth through all 18 holes, with sidebars about where this left him relative to his playing partners. Once he started, he wasn't going to stop. You were stuck there until he putted out on 18.

 

From that point forward I knew that the answer to the question "How was your round?" was supposed to be short and polite. "Meh, hit it good, couldn't putt."

 

No one is asking because they really care.

I don't know about that...I think someone recounting their fantasy team as well as the wins and losses probably tops it for me now. Don't get me wrong, the golf round recap is boring, but slightly less boring than a recap of games I probably watched.
