Pending TaylorMade Announcement

I heard that Francisco Molinari was going to be signing a new equipment deal, so my money is on him. Recent major winner and top 10 golfer ... that's worth some hype.

If not him, the other likely suspects would be Brooks Koepka or Patrick Reed.

"light up the industry" is clearly referring to challenging Titleist's ball dominance on tour for the last 70 years. TaylorMade is going after tour players now for ball contracts, which has been Titleist's thing forever. Rickie Fowler, while not a dominant player, is clearly one of the most marketable athletes on tour, and signing him, in Taylormade's mind anyway, is the beginning of TaylorMade hacking away at Titleist's weekly ball count, which Titleist prominently advertises during every golf tournament (big deal if Titleist can't do that anymore).

You have to look beyond the player and consider the bigger picture. Can you imagine a tour where Titleist isn't being played by 3/4 of the field? That would be a HUGE get if TaylorMade could pull it off.

Diehard Pro V1 user here, and I loved the TP5 when I tried it.

Hmmm, Light up the industry. I see it when it happens, but would guess that motto falls way short of what TM thinks. Literally there is 1 person in the world that lights up a company with equipment changes and TW is already at TM.

No one else on the planet besides TW does that. Not Phil, Not Jordan, Not MJ, Not Curry. Not LeBron, Not Fleetwood. etc........

Looks like a cost-cutting move to me.

Starting with the fall wrap-around events in October, Ping, Callaway and Titleist all have won the driver count at a PGA Tour event. For 3 OEMs to win that count over TM during such a short period would have been unheard of during the past 15 years. Obviously, TM has pulled back their driver tee-up money.

Supposedly, ball contracts are cheaper than driver deals. So, TM signs a bunch of guys to ball deals with the hope that helps gain additional traction for the TP5.

However, let's look at the big picture. To me, it seems TM has had to cede their clear-cut position of the being #1 driver on the tour. In an effort to pull something positive out of this, they starting signing guys to ball-only contracts to chase the #2 position behind Titleist. But, to be clear, this is not a move a company in a strong financial position makes. After pouring millions upon millions of dollars and building their brand over the past two decades of being "#1 driver on tour", to give that up has to be a difficult pill to swallow. So, this potential move into ball contracts looks like the proverbial making the best of a bad situation.

No one does more ads than rickie. Maybe lighting up the industry means the advertising. Cobra gets a ton of inadvertent coverage from his ads. Farmers. Rocket mortgage. Wheels up. Mercedes. Etc. Rose did nothing.

Oh certainly not. As mentioned, only TW fits the description. That;s what makes this whole thing so perplexing. Either this email is bogus or TM is setting itself up for a colossal letdown.

While true, Rickie appeals more to the younger crowd. I am a fan of Rickie and root for him. But if he is brought on the TM just for a ball, I doubt many 10 year old kid cares what ball he is using as they aren't going to be playing that ball. They only right now care about getting an orange Puma shirt with a orange Puma hat.

It's the most pretentious email I ever read from a CEO. Another reason why I hate TM brand. You will never see Titleist, Mizuno or Ping write such a self-aggrandizing email. They deserved to be trolled if they don't come up with something that is going to light up the golf world.

I'd be the first to tweet them if they don't live up to their promise.

Rickie would fit the bill as described by the letter the OP posted if TM were going all in on the apparel market and had signed Ricky away from Puma.

I don’t see it happening but that would be a big deal.

Stealing Phil from Callaway could be considered a big deal.

Not sure about the US but RF does not help Cobra shift hardware. People are talking about BDC but RF is smoke and mirrors, not wins. TM has a stable of regular winners and major champs...RF doesn't fit either.

Rory, Tiger and Wie combined couldn’t move enough product to keep Nike going and Rickie is in a similar boat with cobra but then again cobras margins are different than some of the bi boys this the price on their stuff being less. Rickie however does move a lot of Puma golf clothing and shoes. He is someone who gets it and does a lot for the game. It’s about marketability as much as it is about wins. Rickie is a top 15 player in the world and a recognizable face.

People are talking about BAD because of his quirks and scientific approach but those and his smug attitude make him less marketable. He looked like a spoiled brat with antics last week trying to take a drop.

When a brand is tryin to put a dent in the big dogs market on golf balls having someone that is marketable like Rickie goes a long way and they can use his life long use of titleist and the switch to their advantage.

Not sure if it has already mentioned or whether it even has any signifigance but Me and My Golf posted a video just yesterday that featured Phil Mickelson.

Not relevant. Phil is Callaway all the way and there’s no way Callaway lets him get away. Those guys do videos all the time with other people. They did some with leadbetter too.

There’s several people making comments about guys in here signing with Tm that are still under contract with other brands and obviously aren’t seeing social media ads that have said players still wearing current clothing from their deals and using the latest gear from their sponsors.

I think Phils last contract with Callaway was a "lifetime deal"
