Best place to buy ping irons online?

If you're buying new, you may as well buy from the place you hit them. PING retailers are required to charge you the full MAP, so the price won't be any cheaper if they are current/in-line clubs. Well...you could circumvent paying sales tax by purchasing online, but that's the only savings you'll get.

I always use Mortons. You can add any extra custom details to the notes at checkout, if there's anything you don't see on the order page. They have great customer service as well.

That's true. Ping is very strict on its pricing so every retailer must not undercut each other. Since price isn't a factor, it's really now all about getting it at the quickest time at the cheapest shipping costs.

Why not go to a retailer, either on or off course, who has a Ping cart account and get fit, then order from them? It's an easy process, gets you exact specs, and both the cost and the wait time are the same.

 

I'm a BIG fan of buying locally.

Yup - agree with everyone about the price. You will not find any deals on Ping like you do on Callaway, Cobra or TM. Titleist is pretty much the same as Ping in that regard. If you want those G410's now, yer gonna have to pony up.

You should buy them from a local fitter if possible. Mine has been here for 25 years and knows what he’s doing. I’d prefer to get fitted and hit off of grass instead of a mat.

I ordered a g400 lst from tgw with custom specs in the comments. Ordered at 45” with 65g Evenflow Black and requested D2 swing weight. Arrived perfect.

It's still a perceived discount on the irons, which is something that is a no no. I know, because I have to agree to the same things as a retailer.

 

Not disagreeing at all, but that seems odd that if the retailer pays Ping full price, and they charge full MAP price to eBay buyer, what are they (the retailer) doing wrong if eBay decides to step in and take a loss to them (eBay) to drive more traffic to their site? Why is Ping privy to the dealings between Ping Retailer and eBay the eBay Buyer?

 

I know many OEMs are excluded from Big Box store coupons. But isn't that because the OEM's refuse to honor those coupons and the Big Box stores try to get them to eat part of those coupons? In this case, Ping Retailer isn't asking Ping to reimburse for anything, just eBay is eating the loss by deducting the final cost to the eBay buyer.

But in this case I just don't understand how a Ping/Titleist Approved Online Retailer can be held responsible if they do everything they are obligated to regarding MAP pricing, and then eBay decides to offer buyer's 20% off paid directly to the buyer? Will every Ping/Titleist Approved Online seller seller be required to pull ALL their eBay listings once eBay announces one of these "Flash 20%" coupons?

 

Maybe I misunderstand the way these eBay 20% off to buyers codes work? And sorry to OP for thread-jacking this, but I think it's an interesting topic for those of us not "in the business".

I'm with you. I don't know what a seller could do. I don't think they have a mechanism to deny the eBay discount code, because they're not really in the picture to begin with. I guess they'd have to pull the listings or increase the price to negate the discount? Seems like a lot for the manufacturers to ask

CrushSticks referred to "marketplaces". These would be eBay, Amazon, etc. Those would be totally separate from having your own e-commerce site. But those still typically have to be approved beforehand by the manufacturer.

I've found that buying Ping local to be more expensive than buying online. The local golf shop expects you to buy a club after taking half a dozen swings. Heaven forbid you want to not buy and would prefer try a club on two different days. I usually go to and demo days held locally and have even traveled a couple hours to not have heavy handed sales associates.

 

I really do like the Titleist Thursday fitting programs where you deal with a rep one on one for a half hour. There is no sales pitches, only info on what fits you best. I did end up buying thru the local country club where the Thursday program was held.

 

All ping retailers charge the same for a club, but the amount they charge for upgrades seems to vary widely.

 

Here is what I paid last year locally for a G400 Max driver with ping tour 65 shaft and digital lofting $ 448.49. + $ 15 shipping charge Subtotal $ 463.49 + Sales Tax. Grand total About$ 500

 

The same club on line price $397 for the stock Club + $21 shaft upcharge + $9.99 Shipping Charge Subtotal $ 427.99 No sales tax ( Add on for digital lofting would be $ 8 to $ 15 additional )

 

I bought my Ping irons online with Steelfiber shafts. Based on memory the upcharge was $ 42 per club. Currently the upcharge is $40 for steelfiber and $ 33 for Recoil shafts. The local shop quoted $ 65 upcharge for steelfiber shafts. Ping demo days and ping retailers do not have steelfiber or recoil shafts to try in ping clubs. I bought both Recoil and Steelfiber shafts, installed them in a couple irons and played them to see which I liked best.

 

The local shop charges $15 as a standard shipping charge. Shoes that are returned to a manufacturer due to leaking during warranty period incur a $15 shipping charge.
