He's great. Glad he's part of the crew.

He's starting to find his way in the booth. He's going to work out.

He is an experienced broadcaster. This is as good as he gets. I want someone smart, deep, with a point of view and no PC elitist kindness toward the rich-kid players.

Or, how about no one? The on-course guys rock, we just need a moderator for them, not some old school "host". I find it all very irritating.

Lol..Feherety said Fleetwood looks like a homeless guy that robbed a Nike store.

And Faldo observing Rory as a world-class golfer with a junior high school haircut. Made me laugh. :)

Feherty's sense of humor is so formulaic. Same 20 jokes and completely canned by his writers 2 weeks ahead of each tournament. He's got a one man show in our town and they had to cancel due to lack of ticket sales.

Yes ... professional comedy he is not but should be in 18th rather than simpleton grunt and groan dumb Zinger.

Zinger was just a terrible hire by NBC. Hopefully, he starts getting player exemptions on Senior Tour and embarrass himself on the course and not the booth

Damn you're an angry dude.

Azinger is 59, he's not going to play any "senior" golf. Credibility - 12 PGA Tour wins. His problem is he doesn't bring anything fresh to the broadcast and he doesn't speak well. Very good golfer, lousy broadcaster.

You're correct, in my book, I find him tiresome in the main.

Who gives a sh--? If you don't like it, put the damn tv on mute. I am more interested in just watching the golf, not worrying about if the main analyst is going to enlighten the viewers w/their golf wisdom in an entertaining way. I don't need that. I actually get more from the on course guys when sharing info re shot length, distances, lies, club selection, green reads, etc.

Well, a lot of people care. If you're going to spend 2 or 3 hours watching a golf tournament you'd like the announcers to be interesting and well spoken. If you don't care, that's fine.

His vacuous commentary is distracting.

Man. I was worried there wasn’t going to be a thread about this again this week. I got the over/under at 26 this season alone.

'zinger's doing a good job. I wasn't crazy about him at first but he's growing into it.

Kind of like a Johnny Miller Lite. I think he'll get there. I believe he used the word "pathetic" once describing one of the guy's shot (don't remember who). That actually made me wince just a bit but,,,,,,,, :dntknw:

And what a great call on Furyk's last shot to 18 !!!

"There's no one you'd rather have hit this shot" and then Furyk stuffs it. Not quite "Better than most" but,,,,,,,, ( & it might have been had Furyk won). :)

He's horrible.

The Tirico / Leonard duo was clicking today. NBC is literally holding auditions on air. Dan Hicks and Azinger know their time is almost up.

Leonard isn't bad. I think Tirico is very good, but Hicks doesn't deserve to be let go. He's pretty good. Plus, I don't think Tirico wants the job all season, does he?

I think I’ve seen Leonard grow. Which is nice. When he first got in tv, I thought he was dead boring. Now he looks 32 years young again and he’s telling the GC pregame host that he doesn’t know anything about golf! Leonard and Tirico sounded like they’ve been in sync for years.

Azinger will not change form at all at his age and experience. And it isn’t good.

I think Tirico is, and has been for the past 20 years, the best all around sports broadcaster on tv. He can absolutely say anything to the camera and I believe it. That Vantage Point show on GC is done with so much class, it’s a joke. And it’s easy to not notice, because he’s so smooth.

I never looked at Hicks as a lead guy for a big three network. He always seemed like a “Where’s the real guy while Hicks is filling in...?”

Tirico has the Olympics next summer. He’ll have Sunday Night Football when 200 year old Al Miracle finally slips on a rare steak’s blood while he’s finishing up breakfast. For NBC to get Tirico for golf full time - NBC’s season - it will be much much better for them, and us.

Tirico ? You're kidding, right ?

Dustin Johnson, on the very 1st hole (IIRC) hits a short iron to a front right pin. The ball hits a mound, in the right rough and takes a 90* left turn, bounces through the rough, onto the green to about 3 feet and Tirico says it was "perfectly played". :cheesy:

I remain in disbelief he got that job. I never would have expected Tommy Roy and Co. to be that hesitant and plain. There has to be a logical gamble on a young guy who seldom if ever provides the standard perspective. I would have searched the early to mid 40s crowd, like Miller when he debuted. Trevino was also very good at that age.

Mickelson would be the all timer. Unfortunately he doesn't understand the value, and retains too much game. Chamblee should be the obvious fall back if nobody jumps out from the 40s crowd.

Ogilvy seemed like a perfect pick a decade ago. Thoughtful and sharp, and never the cliche focus. My belief is everything drifts back to the beginning so I would target Ogilvy right now. I realize he moved back to Australia for family reasons but he could be bright enough to understand the upside of this. Good but not great player who could make a Romo-like ascension into suddenly more famous and beloved than ever as player. Besides, if you click on Ogilvy then it's decades of stability at the top spot, since he's barely into his 40s.

NBC doesn't feel like big league anymore with Azinger our there. I always anticipated NBC coverage beyond CBS. Now CBS has remained on same tier but NBC fallen off a cliff. I think I attended Bay Hill partially because I knew I wouldn't watch it otherwise. I didn't watch anything from the Players except some "Live From..." at night.

I'd suggest Veejay Sing or Tom Wieskoff, as they have both shot 63 in a US Open. (So has Jack Nicholas, but he's too old and too busy, and so has Justen Tomas but he's too young and too busy).

There's always a point in every golf telecast when reminding the audience that you shot such a score in the US Open brings the viewer interest up, and refocuses attention where it most belongs,on the playing history of the comentater. ("comentater" - I had to defeat the otto correct 3 times to get that one to stick)

FORE RIGHT!!!!

I think they should just use a computer generated voice. They could just read opinions from GolfWRX.

The worst that could happen is someone would mention they once shot a 63..... in a charity scramble.

Still not a fan of Azinger, the analogies are dated and he just doesn't seem comfortable in the booth. McCord is a clown, I'd rather listen to Joe Buck and that's saying something.

Liked him as a player. Loved him as a Ryder Cup captain. Hate him as a commentator. Not only does he not offer anything insightful or original, he is a cliche generating machine. John Rahm makes a 6 footer for par on the 72nd hole at Valspar. Azinger's comment? "That'll make dinner taste better tonight." I think he uses that one at least once every broadcast.

It's all bad--total babble from the commentators, most of it unrelated to the action going on, the same commercials from a year ago played over and over, the horrid crowds and the drunken frat boy shouts on the tee boxes, the split springs that renders the golf impossible to see, and worse, trying to make a tournament relevant when most of the leading players aren't in the field thru announcing is impossible to tolerate. How of did we have to hear "all these years on tour with no wins." over and over. Ok, I get it, it important to win your first tournament and no one disagrees with that!

It's all crap or i'm just getting cranky in my old age but....!

Azinger is bad. Most all of them are bad and kill the excitement of watching.

talk of getting first win. talk of losing. how does it effect their confidence . this course will do that to you. This is the hardest tee shot on the pga tour. the iconic 17th green. The snake pit. The bear trap. The same dog doo flies out of their mouths every day and every year. Can't wait till we get to Masters week. The networks could probably save a lot of money and just replay last years sound track........ A tradition like non other.

Azinger totally missed the boat on Casey's approach from the bunker on 18 yesterday. That was an incredible shot - a tournament winning shot. As the color guy, you have to be about jumping out of the booth with excitement. But Azinger treated that like any other decent shot in the tournament.

What town, if you don’t mind my asking? I thought his show was selling fairly well.

I've met him, he's weirder and funnier in real life. It may be formulaic, I agree, but it's not written for him.

And it's formulaic because it pays the bills. He's got to cater to his audience which, keep in mind, largely thinks Jim Nance is the cat's meow. So it's a fine line to walk, best to stick with what works because most of golf fandom (esp the old ones, the ones with actual $$) hate new things.
