Any possibility of a more forgiving, maybe 10-15 Handicapper iron set?

I just wonder????? Most seem to rate the look of them, very retro and old school yada yada.

But who will actually buy them? The handicap that could/ would play them is a pretty small slice of the market anyway (less than 10% of all players) and probably at least half of them play clubs with some form of GI features.

They might be nice to get the clubs into the hands of a few top end golfers. Bbut they are really still going to need something strong for the mid and hi cappers if they are to really revive the brand. Its a nice start but bring on the rest of the range.

They are absolutely beautiful, however unless they come out with a line for the average golfer there is no way they are going to be able to make it. The numbers will not be there.

There will be other sets of irons as well. These are just the forged cbs and muscle backs. When the rest of the sets are available, I will try post them as well.

Bump for questions on GI irons. Other sets to follow!

Fantastic looking irons! It's about time they finally came out with a great looking set that brings me right back to my youth with their looks. I remember when looking for a great set of irons, Wilson and Macgregor were the first sets I'd even bother to look at. This is just a super looking club from Macgregor. First set in ages from them or anyone else that I really would like to try. :russian_roulette:

Thanks for sharing the pics! ;)

I concur with previous comments that these are fabulous looking irons.

However, I don't see these irons bringing MacGregor back from the dead. About 1% of golfers use blades, and no more than 10% of them use a forged CB. What are they going to sell to the 90% average golfer market share?

I have played Macs on and off since the early 70s, and wish them well. But they will need more than this. It's a good start though.

Very, very nice. I just got new blades so I think I might have to wait a few years before a new set, but I most definately want to pick up the new wedges, and if the drivers and woods are good enough i may get them also - turn into a macgregor ho ;)

Edit: Hopefully they create a satin finish for those blades as well, as the chrome could get a little bright, IMO

I was a fan of the recent offerings from Macgregor, including the mactec stuff (still using the nvg2 tour as my main driver), but these new irons look badWord not allowed. I wonder what kind of push they'll have on the tour level, because I know they haven't really done anything good at the retail level unfortunately (at least around here).

:russian_roulette: ;) WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MACGREGOR???? These are unbelievable! Love the retro graphics. Now, if Miura forges the CB's like they did with the classic PCB Tour's...oh goodness.

Every time I turn around there's a new iron I need to try in '08.

Hi everyone,

My name is Reid Gorman and I'm the President of MacGregor Golf. I caught wind that some images of a few of our new products recently hit GolfWRX. Looks like the response has been very positive, which is great to see.

The MT PRO irons and wedges that you've seen a few images of are just the start of a big shift in product strategy for the MacGregor brand. This new strategy is our commitment to develop and deliver "Modern Classics" to golfers.

To us, a Modern Classic is a golf club that is strikingly attractive to look at…while still delivering relevant design technologies that make the game fun. In other words, enough of the ugly golf clubs already! There's a lot of crazy looking golf clubs out there these days. We've been guilty of this in recent years and although these products performed great…it hurt our business and perception of the MacGregor brand.

Obviously, the MT PRO products are targeted toward the low to mid handicap golfer (it appears that many of you in this forum may fit this profile), and we're not going to have a viable business just selling low handicap products. Several other MT branded products will follow shortly, addressing different player profiles (Mid, Mid to High, Senior, Women). All of them will be pleasing to look at and will deliver performance that will get your playing partner's attention.

There were a few questions asked about the MT-PRO products that I can answer here:

MT PRO irons

  • Street Price = $799

  • Components - Stock shaft is Dynamic Gold, stock grip is Golf Pride DD2 (red/black). However, our entire operation is a custom shop…so we can build the set with pretty much anything you can think of (some components may cost a little more)

  • Set makeup – The PRO-M and the PRO-C have an identical top line profile. They will both be sold 3-PW in either model. However, you can mix and match any combination of C's and M's from the 3 iron through the PW. Ultimately, you can order whatever mix of clubs you desire.

  • Availability – limited quantities available starting in mid December, availability will increase from January forward.

MT PRO "DW" wedges

  • Street Price = $109

  • Components - stock shaft is Dynamic Gold, stock grip is Golf Pride DD2 (red/black).

  • Wedge offerings – The MT PRO wedge will be coming in 2 finish options (High Polish and Gunmetal) and 8 head options (50*, 52*, 54*, 56*LB, 56*HB, 58*, 60*LB, 60*HB).

  • Availability – limited quantities available starting in mid December, availability will increase from January forward.

At this time these products are RH only, but if we get a good early response (orders!) we'll invest in some LH tooling.

If anyone's interested…I'll be back late next week with some sneak peeks at some other new MT products in the Iron, Wedge, Driver, Fairway and Hybrid categories. Bobby Grace has also been working hard on some great new stuff.

Thanks for listening to what we've been up to. If anyone has any questions for me, feel free to send an e-mail to [email protected].

Thanks again for the feedback.

Take care,

Reid Gorman
