The hybrids were in play all day, especially the 7. Shot 81, front 43 and back 38, the warm weather really helped the swing. Would have shot lower if the ground wasn't so saturated. I am going the Planet Fitness for improving my strength playing golf, sitting on the couch was really hurting. Bought a year membership for $99, what a deal. If your retired this is the way to go. I really enjoy it, but am taking it easy, light weights and lots of reps. I have muscles now that I never knew existed. My back is sore after playing so I need to work on strengthening it somehow; go back to the stretches probably. The driver goes longer now and sounds amazing, and the woods are also better as well. I have been working out for a month now, and the results are real.

After nearly a month sick from the end of December with an awful flu or such (not Covid) I hit the weights to get some tone back for the golf season. But  overdid it in weight choices and or reps and now have a messed up right thumb and the tendons up the forearm. Was already treating  my shoulders from a year ago. Wearing a thumb splint and started physio but I’m concerned how soon I will be able to swing a club. Just to put the icing on the cake for early  2023 my wife tested positive for Covid yesterday and  me today.  We are fully vaxxed with two shots and three boosters. Sheesh.

First day at the range with two new woods, a brand new 2016 Taylormade M2 16.5* HL I picked up for under $80, and a 21* Rogue ST Max 7wd. (never hit a 7 before…) and I loved them both. The M2 is a gem off the tee, and much better for me off the turf. The 7 is a dream. Long high and straight, I couldn’t have asked for more from it!
I might be done with 3 woods and 3 hybrids if they play as well on the course as they did today. I also think I’m going to forget about getting a TSR2 4wd, the M2’s shaft length wasn’t a problem at all, apparently I just needed the extra 1.5* loft.

It’s nice when blind buys work out.

Well wishes to y’all! I just go over Covid/pneumonia myself. 2nd round in 11 months and I’m not careless, had the Vax and booster as well! Plain and simple it sucks!

I put the Rogue ST Max irons back in the bag to gain some distance. Played Eastland greens and shot 38, 38 for a 76, my lowest score ever. Eastland seems to be the friendliest course that I play for some reason, but the back nine is challenging. I was shooting in the mid-nineties, then 86, and then this, try to figure that out!! The day before this round I played nine holes walking, only using only the hybrids and irons from the tips, not keeping score, just a practice round only. Something must have clicked as my iron game has been really down lately. I have never played that well.

I went the easy route and did light weights and lots of reps. My old body cannot hang with the flat bellies anymore. Be sure to get a steroid shot for covid as it will help the muscles recover faster.

Overhaul time again. This time I am going through the clubs in the garage and see what works. Sad how many clubs "I" blamed and are just fine the second time around, embarrassing! Played a round with them and they did great. So good that I regripped them today. Sad, really sad!

63 here…my “perfect” senior bag now has 5 head covers, including putter, and 7 other naked clubs.  I no longer carry clubs I can’t hit and don’t miss the extra weight.  Nor have I found a gap I can’t work around and still score.  Life is simpler with a 12 club, full bag setup.

What I find interesting - most have dropped down from 14 clubs to 10/12 area.

I walk a lot and carry 11 - it easily covers 98% of golf shots I face. My daily only involves 12 - I'd have to be in a tourney/qualifying situation for me to bag 14 nowadays, I guess.

I've still got 14 clubs in the bag, but I use a pushcart, occasionally a power cart. More forward tees for sure, liking a lot of red/white or similar ones depending on the course. 5300-5600 is pleasant.  Still allows for some longer par 4's  in combos as sometimes a par 3 has a higher hole cap than a par 4.

I think that’s because, along with everything else, the gaps shrink as well. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seniors who play graphite shafted irons probably need to get them extended for the right control.  I had my G710 extended a 1/2" and it has been nothing short of awesome. If you are hitting off the toe or thin hits all the time, or gripping the grip on the very end, you need a longer club. Today I extended my P790 irons, the first edition, by 3/4" , and will try them tomorrow to see what difference the extensions make. I was hitting the pw in the yard, and it was like a totally different cub. Better face contact, and no thin hits at all.

I’m not sure the thing about needing a longer club if hitting off the toe is true.

I played the Gen3 XP irons for a year. They were the same length as the Rogue X I played previously.
I constantly hit the XPs out toward the toe, but never did with the Rogues.

Then one day while my friend was getting fit for a driver, I started hitting a E722 7 iron that was against the wall in an adjoining bay. They are at least a 1/2 inch shorter than the XPs and I was centering them immediately.

I went to the car and got my XP 7 iron, and sure enough… out on the toe. When the salesman told me about Tour Edge’s no question asked 30 refund policy, I ordered a set 6-PW. They were perfect from the first day, so much so that I ordered the 5i and AW within two weeks.

My handicap is going down steadily, and it’s now below where it was before I bought the XPs.

8 club 70 year old here.  I like to walk and carry for 9 holes; otherwise I'll take a cart and a few more clubs.

Walking bag: driver, 5-wood, a couple hybrids, 7,9,PW, SW, putter.  I am trying to find graphite shafted irons which are not too light, but which can make the game a little easier.

I'll play senior tees, or ladies tees if I have to.  It's more fun to hit some iron second shots on par 4's.

Yes, I carry when I walk.

The courses I play in SC are almost impossible to walk, but when I’m up on Long Island this summer I’m going to start doing the same. I just bought a 5 way Sun Mountain 2.5 bag for that.

No.  If I walk, a rarity these days due to physical reasons, I’ll carry 4-6 clubs in a Sunday Loma bag. A full bag pushing is still no picnic for me. 😕

Is there any way that you could check the swing weight?

I checked the standard lengths for your club and it is 37.25, the std length for the Ping G710 is 37, mine is a 1/2 longer. The E 722 has an increased weight presence in the toe area, which might explain why the good strikes on your part, very interesting. Sounds like Tour Edge is on to something that fitters need to take advantage of. They look like great irons around the greens as in short game?

It seems like that weight in the heel, and whatever they did with the sole are magical. It sounds silly to say this, but you really need to try very hard to hit a bad shot with these clubs. I bought 6-Aw originally, then ordered the 5i. I hit it so we’ll I have a brand new 5H  that’s still in the wrapper for over a month.

They’re incredibly easy to use around the green. I play off very tightly mown areas down here, and when I moved down here, my short game really went downhill for a long time. I was so used to having a little “cushion” under the ball up north that I developed a case of the yips that lasted for quite a while.

The E722’s are a terrific combination of forgiveness and distance. They feel even softer than my PXGs did, show no signs of wear after 20+ rounds, and look so much better in person than in pics.

I started feeling pretty senior when I turned 65.  At 70, I definitely feel senior.  Having trouble hitting the driver 200 yards will do that.  Speed stick, here I come.
