Despite the trending form, CH3 deciding against the long flight this week and will get a bit of rest before the final push to the FedExCup title. Howell III has played just two Open Championships since 2013 and both were missed cuts. In fact, he is just 4-for-10 overall at the event with nothing better than a T28 (2011). It's easy to see why he's skipping. Martin Kaymer is now the first alternate._

The rubes here who would all give their left nut to play The Open just couldnt understand why someone would intentionally skip a major, and wouldnt take any reasoning as sufficient. Him simply saying "I have a family vacation planned, and that's what I'm doing" seemed to bother people, as if everyone who gets an exemption to a major is suddenly obligated to use it....not realizing that in the summer in America is when most Americans take vacations.

He's played 23 events this year, which is more than any other player in the top 20 in the FedEx Cup this year. He'll likely be playing 4 out of the next 5 weeks. I hope he enjoys his break, and I look forward to watching him play for the rest of the season.

You have to be a really good putter to win a major championship. The guys who win are ball strikers who have a great putting week. They go through the zone with their putting, unless they completely go through the zone with their ball striking.

CH3 has never been known as a great putter. Never will be. Too tight, too controlled. Too concerned with his stroke.

weather update:

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/rain-wind-cooler-temperatures-expected-soon-royal-portrush

_The warm, calm conditions that have greeted players for the early practice rounds here at the 148th Open Championship will soon give way to a cooler, breezier and rainier forecast.

For the final day of preparation at Royal Portrush, players should expect periods of rain and cooler temperatures (low 60s), with winds gusting at times to 20 to 25 mph, coming from a different direction, the south, than the previous two days here._

_The forecast for Thursday's opening round calls for sunny intervals but also a 70% chance of showers, some of them heavy at times. Winds should consistently be in the 10 to 15 mph range, with stronger gusts possible in the afternoon._

_There also could be rain for the other three tournament rounds, but according to the R&A’s official forecast, “confidence (is) low in any details at this stage.”_

So exactly how did the PGA Tour get/convince the R&A to have The Open Championship in Northern Ireland?

It was a joke, man. You know, the whole British versus Open thing? The Euros are super sensitive about it, to the point where the ruling body has made it a point to never, ever call it the British Open. Which is precisely why I will always call it the British Open.

I remember Irish 2012@portrush, saw all saturday and sunday, great venue for TV golf. Cheerful Irish folks all over the place, one of the best golf crowds I can remember. My memories are a little haze on specific holes, but I seem to remember that the hole wich is now 18 was 16 back then was really great. That bunker in the dogleg really ate balls, created some drama as I remember it. The finishing holes at Lahinch and Renaissance was kind of lame, last holes should create excitement.

GC. They were live, right there in Saint Andrews, England, commenting on the upcoming British from Ireland.

The poor weather has arrived. Temperatures have dropped so if you suffer stiffness in the back and neck it's far from ideal.

Can't wait to start listening on the App very early tomorrow morning in bed and then turning on the TV a little later.
