I think you're onto something there. In many countries i.e. the UK, the beer is warm as well. How ghastly!

Wait, what? When did Americans start putting ice in their beer?

Anyways two things:

Scott Hoch is a dolt if he didn't go play the British because of the weather OR the money. It's the oldest most prestigious golf tourney out there. It's a MAJOR. He has/had plenty enough money (and what's the point of having money if you don't spend it on something like.... playing in a major?) and the weather thing just couldn't be more lame. TBH I never read anything that said it was about the money.

And.... two more sleeps and then we get to wake up really early to watch golf. Now THAT is living!!

ps - "the weather". Really?

Geoff Shackelford has been posting flyovers on his website.

There's this course map:

Giants causeway....formed by a very particular type of geological event wherein lava cools and molecules cause the final shape to be hexagonal....

The hexagon is a common shape in the universe(thinking of the polar vortex hexagonal event on Saturns North Pole)

While these are unrelated phenomena, they underscore the tendency of nature to exist in and create hexagons.

Thanks for the information about Hoch's era and history with the British Open. I was wrong to make fun of his name and him in my post. I think the cost back then was a very fair reason for not going to Europe. But things feel different now. There's much more money in the pro ranks especially for CHIII who has been referred to as a golfing ATM machine, and more importantly the Majors have taken on an aura of almost folklore now. They're much more venerated than they used to be. I'd love to hear from Howell why he dropped out and I'm sure there are fine reasons for his not going, personal or not. That said, the scrutiny that now attends each drop out of a major, the posts (can't we keep it to golf and not politics please, there's already enough divisiveness to go around forever) discussing it show that it is a big deal now where before it wasn't. One unsaid post--each one of us would give something quite valuable to have the skill set to play in an event like the Open Championship and there's a little bit of that involved in I bet most of the posts condemning Charles.
