LOL I already pointed out it's not even in Golf Digest's top 100. I've played enough golf to know that kind of course when I see it. It's a Tom Fazio. I've played plenty of Tom Fazio designs.

So you can evaluate a course you haven't seen because you have played other golf courses. Got it. And to you all Tom Fazio courses are rubbish. Ok then ...

I can't find a link but I can confirm it was in the top 10, the Irish editor isn't the most digitally friendly (used to work there). Some actual rankings online though:

https://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/courses/top-100-courses/top-100-golf-courses-60876- 25th best course in UK and Ireland in Golf Monthly, which is higher than Lahinch and Walton Heath. The 6th best course in Ireland

https://irishgolfer.ie/top-100/2018/12/21/the-irish-golfer-magazine-top-100-irish-course-ranking-2019-d1/ - Irish Golfer 3rd best course in Ireland ahead of Royal County Down (edgy take that one, but still shows what people think)

The fact you haven't played it or evidently been there but are saying these things means that you're not worth engaging with anymore.

The Italians started outplaying the Germans at the right time.

2030 for Norway?

Face it, if this course was in America, the Euro Tour's "amen corner" would be bashing it. This really puts into proper perspective all of their smug talk about links golf.

The resort and the publications should have been more subtle in their backhanders IMHO.

Start Top 20 in Ireland and work their way up from there.

Ryder Cup is a massive commercial prize for the Eurotour and I don't begrudge them one bit for taking the event where the biggest wheel barrow of money is.

The course will be set up well, it will be an enjoyable competition to watch - and hopefully the Euros continue to hold serve at home - but I don't think there is anything wrong with lamenting the fact we don't get to see compelling match play from the best players in the world, on the classic links and heathland courses of the UK and Ireland.

The OTT worst ever/best ever is silly.

I understand the cynicism but it really is a fine course it's not a backhander. Contrary to popular belief, a parkland course can actually be better than a links course in Ireland. First course in Europe to feature super-fine bentgrass, and has a SubAir aeration system, one of only three courses in UK and Ireland. Means it keeps firm in all conditions and some of the shots you have to play are Augusta-like. I don't think that's backhanders or overhyping, that's what the world-class pros have actually said about it. And was my impression - I haven't played all the great links of Ireland, but I thought it was better than some I have.

I don't doubt it's a quality course and TBH arguing rankings is about as useful as arguing unicorns, but since you brought it up in the previous post as some evidence of quality, I simply don't buy what irishgolfer.ie is selling. They're basically saying it's a Top 50 in the world golf course... I am super hard pressed to believe that. I'd actually believe in unicorns first.

Obviously while having a good starting 11, Ireland doesn't have the greatest bench, so I definitely concur some inland Irish courses will be better than what's found along the coast and Adare may indeed be 'better' than somewhere like Tralee or Ardglass, but ahead of the historical "Top 5"? No, just no.

But wow at 450 EUR - that's just mental - so I don't think I'll quite be finding out myself anytime soon. But of course in the end as long as we get good matches - and NBC/Golf Channel doesn't make us North American viewers sick to death of the site of the manor itself - and a good result, that's the important stuff :-)

has any rc been played on a course with subair? ... have to assume 'no' ... that's interesting ...

Funny how the Euro tour grabbed a USA styled track and we have the next US RC event at a linksy locale

I would admit in terms of value for money, it is well down the list in terms of best value Irish courses. If you're a member of the Irish golfing union, you could play both Ballyliffin courses in Donegal, Rosapenna and stay the night somewhere for that price... Ballyliffin is now €80 for Irish people, but played it for €50 back before it was an Irish Open course, now that's value for money.

Some people are here just to troll and complain ??

Just remembered what Mickelson said about Paris.... Fairways too narrow and it has rough, well hit it straighter then! Why not use a 3 wood or something, found it a bit embarrassing for such a great player to complain about having rough

Ryder Cup on US soil in those conditions would be interesting at least!

In your considered opinion, what was the last US setup for the Ryder Cup you found satisfactory?
