Honestly, I have to go back to the Calcavecchia vs. Monty singles match at the 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah to recall a similarly epic meltdown during the closing stretch. I believe he was 4 up with 4 holes remaining, and Monty won them all to salvage a halve. I read Feinstein's book about the competition, and Calc had a complete emotional breakdown following the match, thinking he'd cost Team USA the Cup.

It's Josh Gregory, his coach from Augusta State and his coach in general the past few years.

 

I stayed up way too late watching into the early hours and then couldn't sleep because I went past the point of no return, lol. A little "owly" since about 2 a.m., as my grandma would say.

 

I think it's just what he may need out there and maybe Gregory will have him stick to golf today - if he doesn't then Patrick is even more tone deaf than we think he is (if that's possible) and his coach may be more of an enabler than coach (but I'm not accusing him of that - don't know).

No problem at all, Hawkeye! I woke this morning and saw the thing about Karain being pulled off the bag on Golf Channel's crawl at the bottom of the screen, and my mind immediately went to the idea of Justine as the replacement. I figured that would truly be adding gasoline to the fire, given the events leading up this point. The crowd is already going to be completely fired up, so hopefully, his coach can take him to as calm and centered a place as he might possibly achieve. Wise decision by Tiger and Ernie to keep him and Smith apart from each other, and maybe that was an option prior to the Karain incident, but certainly not now.

Knowing them it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Justine and Patrick wanted to go out there and got vetoed - no way Patrick wrote that statement, lol, probably someone from the Tour had to write that he respected the Tour's decision.

 

Didn't like him as a pick, understand Tiger kind of trying to "help" the guy out, but so many other ways to have handled the idea that Koepka wasn't going to be available - just pick Rickie from the get go and when the inevitable announcement came from Koepka, a little more water over the dam, and move on to someone else, anyone else. I agree with Diaz - his Ryder Cup crap should have earned him a little team event bench time, it's not up to Tiger or anyone else to help him mend his own image.

There are some very interesting match-ups. I wonder, how can the Internationals not eek out 5.5 points from those contests? I see three matches that I'm fairly confident the Internationals are going to win, leaving 2.5 points to the gods of fate/chance.

What won’t happen? Sponsors leaving him? Sponsors left tiger en masse and he’s one of the most marketable guys in the golf world. Reed is a nobody comparatively and doubtful he’ll have sponsors backing up his behavior.

Agreed. Reed is basically a nobody outside golf with really no appeal. I'm sure Nike will stay with him because they thrive on anything controversial. But the other two wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to part ways.

It won’t happen, first of all he never admitted to cheating, he didn’t “see” it from his angle and wasn’t his intention according to him. The other thing was his caddie pushing a drunk fan, not him.

This is way different than tiger, tiger admitted to his actions and is way higher influence. You jump ship when affiliated with someone of that influence power.
