High End/Forgiving Clubs For Women

My wife has a birthday coming up and is overdue for some new clubs.  If I wanted to go big and get her some super forgiving clubs (irons), do you have any recommendations?  She is a 20 handicap.  I'm not a big PXG fan.  Was thinking possibly Titleist CNCPT, TM P790TI or maybe PING G700, but could also just go with basic Callaway whatever.  Thank you.

Ping G710 are what I bought my girlfriend and she loves them. She plays men's regular graphite in her Pings with no problem.

My wife recently got fit for TM Sim Max irons, standard Men's length with A flex. She's played for a year, but is remarkably good for that short time. They've served her really well so far.

I just bought my mother some honma XP1. It was either that or PXG. The Honma where better. The other site reviewed them as the most forgiving set for last year. Price was better than PXG as well.

I'm looking at a set of Cobra T-Rail for my wife. She hates regular irons (currently has a set of callaway something or others). I understand that simulators at golf stores are usually pretty inaccurate for distance, but she hit the 7i about 10 yards longer than she normally hits her 4i, hit it higher and straighter as well. While they might be a bit juiced, I dont think it would be to the tune of 50 yards or so. Of course, she has no handicap, we dont even keep her score. If I had to guess, if all her strokes were actually counted up, she would shoot 130+.

 

If you're wife is not opposed to a full set of hybrids, I would say give them a look.

If cost isn't much of a factor, I'd definitely schedule her for a fitting session. We found out that both ladies length and ladies flex weren't right for my wife. She's only 5' 7" so I wouldn't have guessed ladies length was too short. The ladies flex being to soft wasn't as much of a shock, because she's got a pretty quick swing. She also was fitted for either 1 or 2 degree upright. 

 

She got to try 7 or 8 iron heads and narrowed it to the Callaway Big Bertha and TM Sim Max OS irons. (Ended up with the Sim Max OS)

 

She ended up with the matching hybrids, but almost got the XXIO.

Thanks all - that's helpful.  I'm sure this is a whole other thread, but should I just splurge for PXG for her?  I know they're nice - just feel like I'm getting a bit ripped off eg don't care that they come in a fancy box.  Similarly, any thoughts on the Titleist CNCPT04 (the most forgiving I think).  I hit an older version of these for me a few years and they were awesome! (just expensive)

My wife played Ping G15's with soft regular shafts for the last ten years or so and Callaway Big Bertha's with senior flex prior to that.  She's in her 60's now though so I bought her the Ping LE women's woods and irons and it's been night and day.  While it wasn't easy to convince her to switch to "women's" clubs (chicks have an ego too I guess) the lighter softer shafts and overall lighter weight have really helped her get her game back.  

 

At her best she was breaking 90 more often than not but hasn't played as much the last four or five years and hasn't practiced at all.  Consequently she had started shooting 100 and above way too often.

 

Since getting the new clubs last summer she's back to low to mid 90's and broke 90 three or four times.

 

These things are just so much easier for her get up in the air and she's really started getting some carry distance back.

 

Not unlike most men I think a lot of female golfers are playing clubs that are too heavy and too stiff and just a lot of work to hit consistently.

 

The LE's are a really good looking head and are very forgiving.  Heck I hit 'em a few times just messing around and was really impressed.

 

Nothing against any of the "mens" heads be they Ping or otherwise but something to consider since you're in the market.

Second that.  Also, if money isn't an issue any JDM clubs for women will fit the bill.  Honma, Yonex, PRGR, etc. will have offerings for women that are super forgiving.

I like my light graphite shafted Callaway Big Berthas.  They have big heads. I like that.  I have a swing speed in the 70s and like my clubs to be significantly lighter than what most men swing.

A launch monitor can accurately measure club head speed  With this number a good guess can be made as to the shaft flex that usually works. 

 

Swing speed can also be extrapolated from 7 iron or driver carry distance.
