Kathryn Newton at ATT: Some Help for LPGA?

Just caught her game yesterday for the first time. Young, swagger, great swing, wish she was interviewed. Seems like she'd be a good ambassador for the LPGA?

It was a shocker when she was on the first tee and Jim Nantz commented on her swing.  I think he was just hitting on her, but she has a very fundamentally sound swing.  I think the LPGA would be smart to try to couple some of the players with a few non-LPGA players in order to be "brand ambassadors" and help grow the idea of "golf girls" or the other initiatives they have going.  The largest segment of society that could grow in the number of players would be female golfers.  It definitely wouldn't be a bad thing and would bring a lot of opportunities for custom club builders and fitters.

During my time in South Korea, the number of female golfers usually equaled the number of male golfers.  That ratio isn't the same here in the US.

She definitely had a swing that screams low handicap . Certainly wasn’t her first time out.     I wonder what her story is ? Actress I know.  But that swing looks like she’s had an instructor since a small kid.  If it’s  roll out of bed natural.  Then she needs to play more.  Asap.  Lol.

Who is Kathryn Newton

Looks like she was a good high school golfer and then went the path of acting which has apparently worked out.  No idea who she was until I Googled after seeing this thread.  I didn't think to watch yesterday, I was focused on not missing the replay of Episode 2 of The Investigation, having forgotten to Tivo it on Tuesday.

Ok I did the same, I've never heard of any of those films. She does have a nice swing though!

She’ll need to film some new ads for RL...the ones with JT has been waste now.

How is an actress hardly anyone ever heard of a help to the LPGA?

It would be a start.  The LPGA could bring in more female celebrities and do some of the promotional events on the day prior to the tournament, just like the LPGA.  Other initiatives could be developed that will utilize popular female golfers who aren't professionals in order to try and grow the amount of females that play the game.  Look how Ricky, JT, Tiger, Jordan, and a few others have grow the game for young kids.  Many pros today credit Tiger with introducing them to the game and "making it cool".

All of which is different and far more involved than what seems to be the OP’s contention that her playing in a PGA Tour event is helping the LPGA.

I read the OP stating that the LPGA should be looked at by the LPGA as a possible ambassador.  As an ambassador, then they work to represent the brand in positive ways.

Don’t worry. I had to google her. I’d never heard the name or seen the face until yesterday.

She would be a great choice, but I am wondering if the younger female TV/Movie watcher will remember her.  On an international scale, she would be a good pick.  When it comes to attracting the young demographic, then a person that is closer to age might work.  Look how many kids were wearing orange Puma flat bill hats the first few years and even nowadays because of Ricky Fowler.

But usually someone that has actual and positive name recognition, among other things.

Allegedly a +2 handicap which naturally begs the question of whether a 4 handicap male can beat Kathryn Newton.

Key word being allegedly.  Girl's got game, but I highly doubt she's a +2 from what I saw yesterday.  I played a lot of golf with Ina Kim(last year's ladies am champ) and her sister Hana back in day when I went to Chaminade and they attended Brentwood.  Her mother and my mother are good friends even till this day and used to play golf at Woodland Hills CC.  Those 2 girls were and still are + handicaps.  Hana played one year on the LPGA tour.  Kathyrn Newton's game can't touch theirs.

I didn't watch any of the actual play, but I've played with +2s with much funkier looking swings. Kind of hard to judge someones game from a single pro-am.

I get what you're saying.  Don't get me wrong, she's got a solid swing, however, it's her short game that made me think she's not quite a + handicap based on her round yesterday.
