I have played Olympic, it favors a high ball hitter because the ball does not travel well..It is often called the longest "short course" you will ever play, because the uphill holes may be short in distance but the damp air easily adds at least one club and on some days especially during " June gloom" maybe two extra..We all know JK and NK can hit the ball long and launch it high, and they aren't exactly crooked off the tee. JK got off to a great start and just seemed to go in reverse, NK never seemed to get untracked...guess it just wasn't their week or their championship

It is laughable reading some comments from people here how Olympic should be played considering that they have never:

1) Been to the area to understand the weather

2) Have never seen the course

3) Have never played the course.

TV can only do so much

Yes...there are always certain shots that are helpful based on the environment/conditions.

But at the end of the day....it's all about score.....one can score in many ways.

It's all about execution and a little bit of luck.

Low shots can have spin if one can impart the proper technique on the ball strike.

Although I never played it, but I attended the 2016 KPMG and 2010 USSO at Sahalee....the back 9 is a beast and GORGEOUS and TV can't capture the elevation changes.

One had to be there to understand how 1 big tree on your drive on the 1st par 5 on the back 9 an where your drive landed near this tree......had so much influence on your ability to hit your 2nd shot.

I couldn't believe the lack of carry when I first got to the Bay Area, took about half a round to start believing the locals while they tried to school me on the lack of carry and the heavy air, and then return to a different climate  at sea level and hit everything long..the other thing I remember about Olympic is that the ball settles straight down in the rough, and to find it you almost had to step on it, same goes for the Bayonet course at Fort Ord

Yuka Saso is on fire. Don't know much about her but I'd rather have a more well known player or unknown amateur atop the leader board. It's far more interesting.

Yuka Saso was a top ranked Am....and fairly well known if one followed a bit of Am golf.

I don't know if Covid had anything to do with it and she only wanted to isolate her travel...but Yuka joined the JLPGA in 2020 and played really well...winning some events.

In a typical year, the JLPGA has more events and bigger purses than the KLPGA.

I attended the 2018 Cdn Women's Am here at Marine Drive....it was kinda like a NCAA event...about 80% of the players had college golf bags...the other 20% were gals too young to attend university.

There was a lot of TOP NOTCH talent at the event...many are now LPGA pros.,,,,see link below.

I tried to watch as many players as possible...but didn't watch many too as it's difficult to watch all the players you want too...I also watched some local gals that I have seen practicing at courses I play here.

I did follow Yealimi, Dylan & Gina in the final group on the last 7 holes.

Yealimi....a skinny gal.....did hit some 270 drives....which is impressive here in Vanc.

Dylan bogey the final hole...she was crying near the clubhouse.

We get few pros events here in the PNW...so I try to attend, if I can,  and if it's convenient to drive to....some male and female Am events in the area.

They are free and normally don't have ropes...so you can watch up close.

Good golf...is good golf...whether it be the pros or top ranked Am's.

Paige Mackenzie sounds like she's auditioning for a reboot of 'Valley Girl'.

Sorry, but the title of Valley Girl on TV...belongs to Bu88le Wie.

Paige and Beth Ann Baldry just GIGGLE too much that make them UNBEARABLE to listen to.

At least Paige is wearing those crazy tops/shirts like Pressel.

The Execs at Golf Channel must not read WRX....otherwise Paige would be fired based on many comments here.🤣

Yuka Saso entered 2019 LPGA Q-School, together with Yealimi Noh and Bianca Pagdanganan.  She failed to get out of Stage II.

Yuka barely qualified for JLOGA at the end of 2019, but she won the first two JLPGA events in the pandemic shortened 2020 season.

She hasn't played well at JLPGA since those two initial wins.

Yup....noticed it myself in 2008 when I played 3 rds at Harding & Presido teeing off around 730-8am....I'm not lying...my hands were numb after 9 holes....I don't wear a golf glove...and this was the 1st week of Aug...WTH.

The ball also doesn't carry nor roll out as much here at sea level in RAINcouver.

If you think playing golf in the bay area is something that makes on "big time" hahaha.  Maybe some people don't need to announce where they have or havent played.

But again, just check the results for JK and NK and whether long and high was a key factor for success.

At the Olympic Club hole nos 1, 3, 16 and 18 are very unique, memorable. Holes 7 and 8 used to be as well, however 15 years go the club made the mistake of adding yardage to holes 2, 7, and 8 (so that the scorecard could reach 7,000 yards), and now the course is not as good as it used to be. For the 1957, 66, 87, and 98 US Open's no player ever shot especially low but the membership feared the USGA would drop the club from its rotation so they added 250 total yards

Gonna change my citizenship to Korean....it will also help too...the Koreans know how to get tee times here.

The gals in my China portfolio continue to disappoint me.

Jenny Money is a QUITTER

Muni is simply an Instagram bikini model

Crazy Lucy Li will be a better Apple and/or Breyers spokesperson than golfer

Angel Yin has no short game

Janet and Yu Liu may never win

And Rose is CHOKING IT UP

Can't a guy get a break?...just askin.

Angel is pretty funny and has power....but ZERO finesse.....until she decides she needs to have a complete game...it will be a long time before she wins on the LPGA...if at all.

She could learn a few things from watching Ariya. Well, except for leaving the driver in the car. Lol.

The course appears to be playing tough again today. Many players are already 3 and 4 over on their opening nine.

Does anyone know what Alison Lee is putting with? That thing is MASSIVE.

Answering my own question here: looks like it's the Nike OZ T130 that she's had for years. I wonder how many Nike putters are still in play on tour? Can't be many!

Lydia Ko is in last place in the field for total driving and fairways hit and way down for greens in regulation (because of missed fairways), yet she is still in the middle of the pack. She is one of the most efficient players if not the most from getting the ball in the hole. Someone needs to improve her driving. If she was hitting fairways, she would definitely be at the top of the leaderboard.

Longest in the top 10 was Westwood 5th in distance for the tournament, shortest was Goosen. Padraig is top 20 in driving distance at this tournament finished 57th on the year. Westwood finished the year 29th in driving distance. Most other guys hovered around 50th in driving distance, and finished around 100 for the rest of the season Webb 110, Gmac 139.

Interesting distance info, Phil averaged 266 for the US Open off the tee and was 69th for a bottom 3 in driving distance, with Sergio Garcia averaging 250 off the tee and being dead last.

Lexi Thompson cheating again, this time its the second hole at Olympic Club and she requested relief from a green side sprinkler head well away from her thru stroke.  She wanted a different angle to pitch from and the intimidated ,  incompetent Rules official gave it to her. Sad.

If a rules official gave her the ruling it is, by definition, not cheating.
