Yuka Saso's interview = got questions from both Philippines media and Japanese ... maybe both sides with identify with her (i.e. not a "choose a side" debate)... but i got the feeling from the interview, that she's representing the Philippines at the Olympics?

TJ Manotoc's father (Tommy Manotoc) is an avid golfer (ex husband of imee marcos - who's the daughter of the infamous RP president Ferdinand Marcos, exiled and driven out by people power in 1986), was a coach of a professional basketball team etc etc... TJ is a reporter from ABS CBN (largest network currently shuttered by RP President Duterte) - so he's reporting from their "internet" sites...  just fyi for you guys wondering

Really surprised that Lexi and her caddie got the club selection so wrong on 17 and 18 approach shots. 143 yards and 109 yards and they were way off for such short shots. Especially since they have hit plenty of approach shots into those greens for several days during practice and play.

I believe the reason for coming up short of the green (s) was that  Lexi mishit those two approach shots more so than club selection.

Wrong club.  She hit it clean.  SHe even said she was "staring it down" as if was going to be close to the hole.

I watched the one on 18 again, a couple times close.  She hit that one good too.  So it was bad club selection on two consecutive holes to close the tournament.  Rough timing

My commentary was about Nasa's shot coming up short of the green on hole 71, not Lexi's shot.

How long it took the LPGA to get them back out for the playoff had me turning the channel. They need to be quicker than that and both players would agree too. They were there twiddling thumbs and trying to do whatever stretch they could to pass time. Lexi skipping post game is par for the course for the entitled mental midget. If she can't admit to cheating she isn't going to own up to that puke job down the stretch.

I might have been a bad ball strike vs wrong club selection.

There have been many times when I have been 15 yards short even on a PW or 9 iron because I didn't compress the ball I intended to...and these miss hits were also not chunks....just not the compression and ball speed I wanted.

Coming out of a shot...even just slightly .....can cost yardage.

Changing cadence for a moment.

I really like the attitude and game of Megan Khang who rarely is discussed in the LPGA threads.

I hope Angel Yin makes the US Solheim team...I want to see Megan and Yin paired up.

Without personality and fight from the players....the Solheim can get boring.

I think Mel Reid .....and Madsen??...is she the Euro pro that has a bit of a bad temper...have a lot of moxie.

Van Dam will be good too.

Heck...I want Alison GIMMEE Lee to make the team and have Suzann come out of retirement.

So far...some players who might make both teams seem a bit boring to me.

Khang had a chance today, but a 6 on the par 5 killed it... she's been knocking on the doors in quite a few events lately - as in loud knocks too...  Thought she could gather enough steam like Nasa did but that 6 on a par 5 snuffed it out...

Is this reliable???? (though I never doubted - as per my posts earlier) -- what I am not sure is what I heard from GC since I don't think she'll reveal THAT EARLY...

"The two-time Japan LPGA winner accepted LPGA membership after the round, which now comes with a five-year exemption for winning a major."

(as confirmed by Beth Ann Nichols here:

In other news, with a Filippina/Japanese golfer winning, and a Japanese golfer coming runner-up, I wonder if any of the Japanese TV stations are regretting their decision not to show any of the tournament....

When Yuka won, they did at least have a newsflash.

I watched the whole thing... Don't ask me what channel... Not the regular one... The whole TV system over here is unintelligible. Anyway, I got the right channel. They have never showed the LPGA, but they did this week. They didn't show the memorial when I woke up today, so that was really nice..

Have to think Lexi was between clubs on 17 and I thought the approach on 18 was horrendous. I told my wife on 17 that she always chokes, and sure enough.

I watched Yuka Saso play a few national tournaments over here in Japan. Don't think she ever won anything, but she was always lurking. There is a generation of talent coming through Japan rigth now and they are really showing up.

Here's the correct USA Today Link, for that confirmation wrt Yuka Saso LPGA membership: https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2021/06/06/19-year-old-yuka-saso-wins-u-s-womens-open-playoff/

There's another Filipino golfer recently in the news... Juvic Pagunsan?

Im gonna blame her caddie for 17 and 18 misclub.....I played that course at least 50 times and 17 is about 1.5 clubs min....Its 1 club for elevation and there is also wind in your face and there is also the cold marine air..I think the shot was playing 158 carry on 17 and 9 is really stretching it and on 18 , the 109 shot was playing about 127.....but LOL, that putting was all her...she putted horribly in the last few holes.....

Golf IS HARD.  Especially under pressure.  Those last two iron shots looked like the wrong club choice.  Hope Lexi will learn from another tough loss.  Gotta hurt.  If I had just lost, and was emotionally touched, then I sure as hell wouldn’t give an interview at that very moment.  I’m sure many wrxrs have been in a similar situation and have plenty of commentary they would like to share....

“Yeah, of course it’s tough,” she said. “I really didn’t feel like I hit any bad golf shots. That’s what this golf course can do to you, and that’s what I’ve said all week.”

This what Lexi said in the article.
WTH....man is Lexi delusional....she hit more than her fair share of BAD shots and putts to lose her 5 shot lead.

I also have golf friends who say the same thing time and time again after bad shots...it's so hilarious.

At the beginning of the video linked below, the official tells Nasa she has the honor. Now, can someone explain how USGA determines the playing order in a playoff?

Unless they picked numbers out of a hat that tv didn't show Nasa was first in the clubhouse to post her -4 score. She was two groups in front of Yuka. First to post seems to get the honor on the tee with the USGA for a playoff.

I didn't see any change in him.  I did see her asking him a lot of questions like "are you good with that" etc etc.  She needs to take ownership of her shot selection, as if she's playing alone.  Let the caddie carry the bag, not make decisions for you

She was basically begging for him to save her. She had lost all confidence in herself. You could hear it in her voice. She was so shook, she couldn't make a decision on her own. That chilly dipped pitch took emptied the mental tank.

Honestly, she's got terrible touch. No short game. She was lucky to avoid that dreaded just outside tap-in range for 3.5 rounds. I like her, but all she has is hulk smash. She swings every club, in every shot as hard a she can. Kind of like a 15 year old kid does

A skill set that had to be managed. Can’t believe LT didn’t pull this off. 17 and 18 just hit the middle of the green. She’s carrying what, 3 or 4 wedges. Is she too steep. On 17 she felt she flushed it. On 18 she’s short. That’s not a professional on tour. Sorry. Just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
