Ping Glide 3.0 wedges - what shaft are you playing?

Recommended Posts

I've read a few things where people suggest some of the shaft options end up feeling really light.  What are ya'all using and do you like it?  I'm looking at a 54 and 58, more for chipping, sand, and around the green, but occasionally for longer shots.

I should mention that I play the KBS Tour 90 in my irons, but they might get switched out to Recoil 95's.

PX 6.5 Blackout. Deadly looking combo!

Also added about 2 inches of high density lead tape to the cavity on my 51 and 55, and about 4 inches on the 60. Weights it out perfectly for my feel anyways.

I like the awt 2.0 wedge shaft.

I thought this was a little strange, but then I looked it up on Ping's website and saw that the AWT wedge shafts are significantly heavier than the AWT iron shafts.  It's actually one of the heavier (outside of dynamic gold's and X-flexes) that they offer.

Yeah I like it a lot of 3/4 to full swings. Fine around the green too. FWIW I have kbs tour 120S in my irons and I’d read here that the AWT wedge was a nice transition in the wedges, and I’d definitely agree.

When I gamed mine I threw in some DG Ti S400 and had some lead tape in the cavity.  It helped quite a bit.

I'd be interested to hear how you get along with them. I also play lightweight steel in my irons and have been wondering the same question as you about shaft in the glides.

ha! My wedges still have some life left in them so I am not likely to upgrade until the winter anyway.

I play the stock PING Z-Z115 Wedge shafts in my 52 and 58 and they have plenty of heft. D2 and D4 swing weights.

Sorry, forgot all about this.  I've played 8-10 rounds with them now, partnered up with Elevate 95 stiff shafts in my irons.  Honestly, the weight of these have not been an issue, in fact, I don't even notice a weight difference, probably because I have rarely taken a full swing with these wedges.  However, it has definitely been an adjustment with these wedges... they seem to have a little bit more offset than my past wedges, and trying to open them up with an open stance has been a complete failure (I almost said "flop", but I digress).  I've had to re-learn how to hit short, high shots and flop shots haven't worked at all.  These things just want a straight-on swing with an almost normal stance.  They spin great and I'm in no hurry to get rid of them, but definitely a more difficult transition than I expected.

Any feedback on Glide with Ping Alta CB Red graphite shaft? Or any custom ordered graphite shafts?

 Thanks, Mac

I briefly hit a 46 with the Alta and didn't really care for it. I figured that would be the case going in though, very light compared to "typical" wedge weights. I really liked the stock z115 (had it in 56 and 60 Eye2 grinds but have Recoil 95R iron shafts and since I use wedges as full swing clubs I wanted graphite to help save the elbows. Bought the Recoil Proto Wedge shaft, the regular flex is 113g, which is about the same as the Z115. So far I like it a lot, no flyer issues, not a night and day difference in feel.

Good point about stock Alta being light. Play G25 ions with TFC 189i around 75g, so thinking Recoil 95 might be good option for wedges.
Any feedback on Recoil 95 in wedges?

 Thanks, Mac

I have Recoil 95 in my PW and AW. Like it a lot. I previously had SF i95R in i210 PW/UW and that was fine as well. Currently have an i210 UW with Alta stiff and I have added lead tape to the bottom to try and get the weight up. For me a short iron needs more weight, ymmv.
