My sources tell me the 790’s gen 3 will be a thinner soled version of the 770 and are amazing irons in testing

Nope. Won't be "thinner" than 770s. Maybe thinner than present 790s. The competition is Apex and Apex Pro. 790s are the Apex, and TM isn't losing that niche. So, we wait to see if all of our mutual speculation is even close to correct

Hot Take - TM just posted DJ swinging the new 790 on their IG.

Looks like its Hzrdus black paired with it so it may be the UDI?

So...an all chrome updated version of the SpeedBlade.

A big old bag of meh if this is the updated P790.

Give me the old P790 as opposed to a chromed out SpeedBlade.

Speedblade.jpg

No disrespect but I will have to disagree with you...yes it does look similar but what I didn't like about the speed blades was the chunky look near the heal that wasn't blended well and the overall chunky look... Each to their own opinion...and yes I already ordered mine so I have to like them, right?

It’s not a miss and has sold quite a bit better than the 760’s ever did.

totally agree here. "total miss" is way off base. if one person doesn't like them, fine your preference. I love them and that is my preference, but the numbers would say they are not a total miss by any stretch.

That's not what I meant at all

I meant they will tell you how they certainly are Not a replacement for the p760 and how they really don't have a natural spot in terms of player - 790 and 760 served 2 very distinct players - 770 is in no-man's land in my view and I suspect they will corroborate that in general

there is a real gap in there lineup now

That missing gap- your words- is called a mixed set of 750s and 770s in longer irons, so much so is there is a chart on the TM website to build a set based on your desire of where the "break should be, between the 770 and 750. Is it going to be at 7 iron or 6 iron for example
