Before buying an Olson putter

Just went through two of his stock series..NP2 Style and NP style (his latest)…the work is AWESOME and the headcovers are cool BUT I moved on from both of them..had a harder feel off the face (some might love it) and on his newest California Legacy the NP is almost unplayable in sun…the bumpers are so polished (looks AMAZING) but really made it annoying to play…I also think he should number them if he is going to remain as limited as it seems.

I have been trying to get my putter fixed to the correct weight that I ordered for months. Just wanted to see if anyone had any success

Of course....ordered a putter from him and to be fair had no issues with how long it took or how it looked...its a beautiful putter. Ordered the putter at 335G and it came in at 350G. I am one of those weird people that can't putt with something that heavy. 

 

I messaged him and he apologized and responded pretty quickly. After some back and forth I was giving some options on where to take the weight out of the head to hit the target weight I requested. Fine not my preference but it what it is. After I agreed to the one of those options I have been having trouble getting him to respond with what the next steps are. IG is a waste of time, that empty bag of chips just deletes any negative comments that are made.........

How much did he get you for? I was quoted 2500$ for a pretty basic putter too

I ordered a while ago...so bit cheaper than that

I waited 12 months. Ended up giving him upwards of $3000. Sold it for way under what I paid.

 

Now I’ve got a loose hosel in one of his early copper putters. Hasn’t ever gotten back to me about it. This was one featured on IG. I’m sending it to Josey Mack for repair. All other boutique putter guys respond. Byron did, Lamont, Josey, Brandon Matthew, etc. 
 

I had a center shafted ss that was +10gms over the weight stamped on the bumper. Already had a bullet sole. Went ahead and sold it.

FYI, Scotty stock tolerance is +/- 5gms. I’m sure the circle t’s are right on the number.

I've had experience with this, you keep throwing them money and they'll talk to you but after a while they'll ignore you so you throw more money, eventually it will work, it does with strippers.

His market does seem to be at pretty much rock bottom right now. (Secondary market)

A bit harsh, but somewhat on point. But stamping a sole that is not on the order sheet isn’t good, especially when it looks like the attached photo.

 

Otoh; That instant pestering will leave things sour with any maker I presume, the communication will be limited and the customer will come on here and have their rant about their bad experiences and people will cheer as the result. I’ve seen it on other threads too and it is just sad, seeing the same people jumping on every thread to pour gasoline onto the fire.

 

Olson can weld, why not just cover it up and have that customer happy and sorted?

+- 15 grams on a CNC Milled head is so far off it isn't funny. These hobbyist putter makers make some of the other good guys look bad. Because you can plug something into a CNC doesn't make you a putter maker.

Ordered my putter from MackMade and requested 390 headweight…15 grams off isn’t a mistake it’s a total no s****s given situation in my mind.

I wonder how he's going to factor in the weight of the diamonds, platinum. Damascus, and 303 on the current build he is touting on IG.  His current build sheet says, "head weight (range)." The diamond build is listed as, "345-355g."  I guess the putters really aren't "handcrafted."

Dude is extremely talented I just think unless you are going with something insane he seems to make some mistakes and not own up and fix them.

Depending on the build I usually give a +/- of 5g some guys are bang on some within that range. 

 

Lajosi was +5g at 365g asked 360g

Kevin Burns asked 360g got 360g 

Cody James was +3g asked 355g got 358g

Cogging asked 355g got 355g

NCW asked 355g and got 355g 

 

Honestly if all these guys are hitting my requested weight and none of them are asking what Olson is asking he can hit the freaking weight numbers.

Gotta say this guy does churn out some really top work.  Not everyone's taste of course but one should be able to appreciate the precision and detail.
