Golf polos specifically for the office

Recommended Posts

Work-from-home is winding down for my industry, and as I find myself in the office more I’ve decided to dress a bit more casually and see how long I can get away with it.

Most of the shirts I wear on the course don’t have the kind of fit or fabrics that translate well to a professional office environment. I need some polos that are more fitted and made with better fabrics.

I just ordered four shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt on a four for $150 deal they ran. I’ve always liked their dress shirts and these polos are very nice as well. They are more fitted across the shoulders and chest. The fabrics have a nice drape and seem a bit sturdier and more formal than most. Definitely office worthy.

What other brands should I keep an eye on? I know about Peter Millar and some others but I really try to avoid the $80 per shirt price point.

If you like heavier fabrics that are tighter across the chest/shoulders, I would say Twillory is right up your alley.

Just checked out the site. I’ll be ordering a couple of those for sure!
I was going to come and recommend the Lululemon Evolution polo, but the Twillory polos look even better.

Do these stay tucked in? Maybe it's just the way they photographed the model on the site but they look incredibly short. Like they barely extend past the beltline short.

I appreciate the ideas so far. Still looking for options that aren't premium priced. $80 per polo is not my price range.

Lacoste is always a nice fitting, high quality shirt.  If you don't want to pay retail ($85+), go to eBay and find used ones in your size from people with excellent feedback (high volume of sales, nothing less than 99.5% positive feedback).  I got a couple for even $15-20 and they were excellent for the office.

I like those too, though the laundry requirements frustrate my wife (they can’t go in the dryer).

Can’t go wrong with solid non-bright colored polos with no visible logos. Obviously no Nike swoosh, Adidas , UA, Puma. Save the moisture wicking fabrics for the course. Polo Ralph Lauren is classic & acceptable.

@jadedennill Did you ever order and receive your Twillory polos? If so, how do you like them? Fit and quality.

IMO Holderness & Bourne (https://holdernessandbourne.com/) are the best for what you're describing. They have the best collar in the game (sewn in collar stays), and you can size up or down based on how trim you like your fit - classic style with more modern fits and I love that there aren't visible logos all over their gear.

I do a lot of Zoom calls for work and when it's warm it's exclusively H&B polos for me. Perfect for on and off the course.

The only drawback for me is their shirts are fairly long and designed to be tucked in, but I'm also pretty short. Price is on the higher end but they hold up very well when being washed/dried and their customer service is excellent.

Bumping this up for my review on the Charles Thyrwitt polos.

I've had four of them for about six months, and my review is positive. They have the structured/tailored fit and premium fabrics like the brands that go for $100 or more. They hold up well and look pretty good coming right out of the laundry. Any wrinkles tend to fall out within the first few minutes of wear.

The tails are a bit on the short side, which probably benefits guys who prefer to wear them untucked.

I just placed an order for four more. They generally run quantity discounts on shirts and right now they're four for $199.

Our office issues Peter Millar and now Stitch for everyday wear. As mentioned, throw on a sports jacket and I'm good to go for 90% of the otside the office walls functions I attend.

I like their stuff too, though I find that the Player's Shirts come out of the laundry too wrinkled for office wear. I'm not the kind of person who's going to iron a golf shirt.

I really like the long-sleeve overshirts.

Lululemon Evolution polo. I have 6 or 7. They are slim fit and have good length. I wear a large ( 6’ 4” 190lb). Also no logos.

Wait for sales. These two brands will look good for a long time, the collars hold their shape and they're well fitting for athletic body types. In the long run, I don't find them that pricey because they look good for a long time.

As others have said, look at alternative places and seek out deals. You'll rarely find premium brands at non premium prices on their own website, it devalues their brand so they send them to alternative sites to clear out. I've bought plenty of PM, Linksoul, Travis Mathew and Greyson, etc. over the years through means other than directly from their own website. Last summer my wife found a bunch of Linksoul polos on the sale rack at the local Von Maur and Nordstroms for me, for example. Ebay is full of resellers at discounts as well.
