Anyone test this out against the AD XC? I currently game the XC 6x with my Tsi3 and I love it except it launches a bit low for my liking. Wondering if this would help out with that and still be able to control my launch/spin since I tend to struggle with spin due to a downward AOA.

Give me a week or two and I’ll let you know. Have the xc now too.  Just need them to arrive and stop raining.

Just came back from the range.  I hit about 50 balls with my SIM 2 w/UB-7TX.  Very smooth yet stable.  I only hit one duck hook with it but it was my second ball so I was still warming up.  My swing is in to out so I was intentionally hitting little push fades the ball was hitting the very top of the fence which ends at 250 yards.  Crazy hang time.  I would say it's a beefed up DI/ TP and a bit fade biased.  I'm coming from a Diamana PD and it's gone now, lol.

So it’s beat out the PD?

He describes the UB quite well and touched on a few points I made.  UB does have kick to it but it's very subtle.  No harshness to it either for such a tip stiff shaft like the PD was.  It's a more stableTP/DI IMO.  Like the writer, there was no ballooning for me but then again, yesterday here in SoCal was relatively calm.  True test will come on Sunday when I go play in Santa Ana.

Launches just a touch higher than the XC.  I didn't see any ballooning from excess spin, however, I have a positive AoA.

Your review alone makes me very interested. A more stable DI sounds like money. I will be dying to give the 5x a try.

Not to burst anyones bubble but theres like 5 GDI shafts that are 'more stable DIs' like the TP/VR/HD and now the UB. IMO they can all carry that tagline.

When looking at GDI shafts IMO it's important to see if you want a softer/firmer handle/tip in ref to the DI and thats how you can better narrow it down along with the launch/spin characteristics of the shaft on paper.

I see that you're playing the exact same head and loft for driver that I do.  Are you not getting enough launch and spin with the XC?

I should've been more concise in my wording.  It's a firmer DI, but hey we can also say that about the TP.  🤪

That’s exactly how I feel. Ball flight is a little low for what I like, spin as well, but I will say I consistently am hitting more fairways than I ever have with the XC. My curiosity is just getting the best of me.

I'm going to try and get on top tracer or trackman next week and look at some tangible numbers.  The XC was more of an accuracy shaft for me and I vaguely remember the numbers when I did some testing.  Main thing I will be looking for will be carry distance, ball speed and curve.

Let me know the results. I haven’t used one either with it. I would be curious to compare the two as well. I think I’ve lost about 10-14 carry yards from the XC from some others I’ve played.

Managed to get out and hit a bucket.  The UB launched nicely.  Definitely higher than the PD that I had in the SIM2 previously.  Beyond that, It didn't really leave me with much of an impression.  It feels weird to say, but from a feel perspective - the kick wasn't super noticeable for me - it wasn't stout, nor was it whippy.  It was just kinda - there.

From a performance perspective - it launched pretty high - but didn't seem to spin a ton.  I was able to hit the back fence pretty far up consistently - more often that I recall previously - so launch conditions were solid.

The one thing I'd note is that it didn't really feel at all like my DIs - HOWEVER - my DIs are all S flex, rather than X - in addition to being in fairway woods rather than drivers.  Apples / Oranges imo.

Anywho - not sure if that is helpful to anyone at all - but there it is.  Take it or leave it - it's worth what you paid for it.

Unsure yet.  Right now it might be the UB, but I didn't do a real head to head yesterday as I only hit the UB.  I'll do a proper head to head this Saturday as I'm taking a lesson at a range that has Pro Vs.

Was able to hit for about 30 minutes today. It was a bit breezy; I didn’t find any of my balls ballooning into the wind. I’d say they hit the description spot on with mid launch, low to mid spin. Really felt I could work it both ways. If anything I’d said it’s very neutral, not favoring one side or another. Never had it snap left on me or bail out wide right.

TSi3 10° @ 9.25° 45.25” 5x right at D3. This is my first foray into the “50” weight class shafts. Next step will be to dial in swingweight . Loved what I saw so far.

Will get some numbers with Trackman when I have a little more time on the range.

I’ve been playing Ventus Black 6x and my miss has been to the right. I think the black might be too stiff in the tip for me.

Hit a gazillion Pro V1x shots with the UB today.  Unfortunately I forgot my wrench so didn't get to swing the PD for a direct comparison.  😕

I was also coming out of a lesson where we made some major driver changes - so speed was down as I was working through the change.  All that said, the shaft felt very "transparent" in a good way - meaning it was very neutral, and predictable.  Definitely a lot more draw for me today, with very few balls being lost right unexpectedly.  I was only swinging 108, with a zero path and 6 - 10 up - but at no point did the 60x it feel overly stiff despite my drop in speed.  I also found the center a lot more frequently than I have been recently - however it was a pretty big swing change - so again - kinda apples to oranges here.

Sadly - I was so focused on the lesson that not once did I look at spin numbers (though I'm not sure they'd be particularly valuable given that I was swinging up so much.  The AoA also leads to some really fast closure rates, which account for some of the big, high losses to the left.

The key takeaway was that I should probably go in for a driver tune-up lesson more than once every two years.  😕

I'll try to get some spin, launch comparison numbers here soon.  For now, it feels like the UB may be staying in the bag as it's definitely stable, without being overly stout / boardy.  Still a lot of testing to do.

I've had my 6X UB out for a bit now and it's a good one.  AD TP is my gamer but I've played most of the lineup the last few years.  The UB feels pretty stout to me and definitely stiff in the tip (heh).  It's noticeably firmer in the hands compared to the XC, which I felt a was really soft.  Both will kick pretty good at the end.  It's giving me slightly lower launch and spin than the TP or the DI, and that should make it a real contender for me in '22.  I've hit some really long ones with it too.  I will say it's probably among the least pleasing feeling GD shafts, but that's relative considering how good most of the line feels...

How would you say the launch/spin compares to the XC? still debating if I should get this shaft and currently game the XC but it launches a bit low for me but helps me keep the spin down.

Thanks to everyone for the great feedback on this new shaft.

With a swing speed of 112 would you recommend a 6x or 6tx with the UB?  My current gamer is a Ventus black 6x untipped.

In the past I played a AD DI 6x 1/2 inch tipped and it was too soft.

Also does Titleist still recommend 1/2 inch tipping for GD AD shafts?

Thanks

The UB is going to be a stiffer profile all the way around than the DI. At 112 I would think the TX straight in would be where you should start. I went from a Ventus black 6x (which I think was a little too stout for me) to the UB 5x, which is much easier to load. My SS averages 107.

I'm getting the sense that anything with a Stiff+ or Very Stiff rating in the tip section is going to make the shaft feel a little more harsh at impact, relative to other Tour AD Shafts. Never heard anyone describe the AD GP as one of their better feeling shafts either. I would agree that most of the Tour AD shafts feel great. I'm going to stick with my TP's for now.
