Had coffee with Jordan my buddy and our assistant superintendent early this morning out on the practice putting green. I asked him how the greens were healing up. His answer was faster than expected. Since they began rolling and cutting them this week it was his prediction that they would be just perfect in 10 days or so.

We here in basement have nothing but time on our hands. There are no bright lights for us. Nope those being bathed in illumination have winning selections and they can be found upstairs.

 It is the second week for me down here and I haven't even sniffed the first step up the stairwell to brighter days yet. I find myself firmly planted on a couch in a room with no natural light for days on end. 

Oh my I blow, but then again I am a multi year card carrying member of the basement dwellers club so it's not too surprising. 

As I spend time in the dankness I sometimes write in my journal. I am going to start this week writing in that journal the continuation of a story about a gal I met bartending at a HS reunion in the mid 80's in Fairfax, Va. at a Marriott hotel.  I have checked with my attitude adjustment counselor (smut monitor dude) and I have been cleared to create one mature audiences piece at this time. This week I will finish telling you about the fun I had in Fort Lauderdale when I finally took a trip down to see Brenda on her turf.

 

Flying you to your destination on Eastern Airlines to D.C., N.Y., and Boston was Ms. B., the stunning looking brunette firecracker flight attendant that was my first older woman. Beyond frisky that one. 

If the passengers only knew. 😀

We are headed from the North Carolina mountains down to the flats of upstate South Carolina once again this morning. Stan and I want a second go at Village Greens G.C.  Mike and Carl will complete the foursome. I am not so steady a golfer that I can reel off four solid rounds in a row, but I did play consistent all of last week so who knows? Going in with medium confidence. Good, bad, or something in the middle score wise will be accepted, and  I'll be way happy just to be busting drivers once again. Recap tonight.

A little golf update amongst the Pigskin Pitter-Patter...

 

Walked 18 yesterday with my wife, twilight  (3PM) with temp about 85.  A mix of tees around 5600.  Waiting on the 1st teebox a gentleman (who also was a member of the pushcart mafia) approached so we invited him to join us and he obliged.  He was a senior (70-ish?) with a real smooth swing and a nice disposition.  He only played 9 as he departed with a wonky knee and knew that he was teeing it up today with a group of folks he plays with weekly so he didn't care to punish himself.  He had a stated goal of walking 1000 miles this year on the course and was at about 675!  Great motivation to get out and do it!

 

His aura must have inspired me as I fired a 39 + 45 =84.  Ran off 6 consecutive pars on the front (which is very good pour moi) and played steady golf on the back.  33 putts, 10-14 fairways hit, only 1 lost ball which I'm blaming on fallen leaves as it must have hidden beneath a pile.

 

Our pace was slow as we followed 3 couples as the men played and their wives drove their carts.  They subscribed to the "popular" theory of all driving to one person's ball and then over to anothers and so on and so on which left myself and MrsNC waiting on the teebox and on the fairway throughout the back 9.   On the 15th as 2 "gentlemen" walked off the third dropped a ball and hit a practice chip up to the hole and I was quite chafed!  Kept my cool and we ended up speaking to the threesome behind us as we commiserated about our shared plight as the sun was going down quickly.  I knew we had a nice full moon last evening but I really didn't wish to finish with it for our only light!

I enjoyed reading your recap NCL. Yes dropping a ball and taking a practice chip while the other's in his group were going on to the next hole is a big jerk move.

Funny stuff NCL with your last sentence stating you did not want to play the finishing holes under the full moon's light.

Actually a frustrated MrsNC🤬 ordered a Code Red by saying (and I quote): "Hit into them"...I couldn't do that😇 so I waited until they all 3 got back to their carts then pulled the trigger.  I was 170 out with my 20 degree hybrid.  Hit just in front of the green where "Chipper Jones" had just been.  I doubt they even noticed...🦥

Oh and Mr. Lance, I forgot to mention something else important so do forgive me. Congrats on your six pack streak of pars, and also for hitting a bunch of fairways. Nice to hear that you had an afternoon that contained a bunch of good shots that put a kick in your step as you strolled the course even under patience trying slow play conditions. Those scorecards of ours that feature our best outing in quite a while bring out a larger golfer smile when you slip them in your pocket and walk to the car don't they? 🙂

 

I bet Mrs. NCL was a might proud of the man of the house's golfing ability that was displayed in front of the new single guy that joined up for 9.

 

Thanks for another edition of this was our golf day by the upstate N.Y. couple.

I was just checking some early line movement for our new week's games.

 

This would not be a typo I feel.   Crazy stuff.   the WFT opened as a 3 point favorite last Sunday night and now the action already this week has swung the line to Buffalo -9  ?  !!   wait what? The Skins were favorites. Had to be a typo, and still is.   I'm baffled.
