Love 'em all, but my favorite on my favorite show where I first saw him actually play (on TV) . . .

If aliens descend on the remnants of human civilization a million years from now

They can just listen to this and fully understand the ecstasy and brilliance…as well as the sheer agony of humanity ; )

Not sure about best ever but have you ever seen Billy Strings doing "Dust in a Baggie"?

Good Lord that kids fingers are flying on the guitar!

Its ashamed the idiot in the background never stops blabbing all the time he is playing. That is some amazing playing.

Since this thread took a sharp turn down SRV-ville Lane, I figured I'd humble-brag about my own experiences seeing the great man in person.  First time was in '85, where he was the opening act for Dire Straits on their "Brothers In Arms" tour in Toronto, CAN.  Mark Knopfler - still my favorite musician ever, but I digress.

Then in '86, I saw him as a headliner in Cleveland.  Was totally into the entire performance, and then he got to Hendrix's "Voodoo Child".  I was standing there with my jaw on the floor, thinking how can anyone possibly top the original, but it was playing out right there in front of me!  Such an incredibly tragic loss, but I'll always treasure the memories of those performances.

I open this thread up to last page expecting how BDC chatter.  I find SRV and I am not disappointed in the least.

seeing as how I’m born and raised in austin I always loved him in the old antones days before it moved downtown…

anyhow, I remember watching the montreaux performance on vhs…Stevie and Jimmy worshiped many tx legends including Johnny Copeland who he introduced to Europe on this night…he was out of houston but a mainstay on th austin scene in the 80s…

dude could make a $200 peavy sing…and his voice was butter

Snowman, you got your ears on?

it’s funny how overlooked he is as a spectacular guitarist…

Same with roy Clark…but as wrecking crew alum Glenn Campbell said, roy is so damn good at every instrument you can’t focus on one….

I would defy anyone on this board who is a guitarist to understand how Campbell could do this on a 12 string…

it may be the most technically unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen…

he was frankly on a level occupied only by him….

Eddie Van Halen asked Campbell for lessons…and that’s not urban legend

anyhow, he often yielded to Clark which speaks to his awesomeness…which is high praise for Roy

this is mind blowing if u play

I saw that Dire Straights tour in Hartford, CT in 1985.  It was a great show.   I don't remember who opened, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't SRV.  He must have only played some of the shows.  I would have remembered him.

they are each in homage to page(his studio years), SRV, les paul, and glen campbells 12 ovation…

I will also add for the guitarists on here - he did that without delay, overdrive, reverb, compression and all the other crutches we use to sound good. Very impressive...
