In 2021 Day finished 101 on the Money List while Fleetwood was 112. Both should have PGA Tour cards for 2022. Fed Ex Cup standing only is only meaningful for qualifying for the next event’s Fed Ex Cup point cut down.

The PGA Tour money list has not been used to determine exempt players for some time. It's done based off of Fed Ex Cup points. Both Day and Fleetwood finished outside of the Top 125 in the FEC. Day however is exempt on the PGA Tour through the 2023-2024 seasons due to previous wins. On the PGA Tour Fleetwood has to reply on sponsor exemptions and playing out of the 126-150 FEC playing category. He is fully exempt on the European Tour.

I stand corrected. Day finished 114 vs Fleetwood at 137 on Fed Ex Cup Standing for 2021.

Signing PGA Tour pros to equipment contracts is no different than signing MLB free agents. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. You notice it now more with TaylorMade since they try to sign the big names instead of flooding the field with driver, bag, and hat deals.

Wait how does Fleeetwood have a FEC ranking if he doesn't have a card?

Screen Shot 2021-12-26 at 6.17.19 PM.png

that’s the 21-22 season rankings. in 20-21 he finished 137, so he lost his card but did well enough in korn ferry finals to get conditional status. so he gets some starts and sponsor exemptions (zozo and cj cup so far).

That's true to some extent. I remember in 2012-13 when it seemed like 1 in 3 players on tour were Taylormade staffers, but now they've got a leaner tour staff but it's obviously a lot more top heavy since they've got guys like Morikawa and Rory signed on. I actually think Callaway is on there way to over taking Taylormade in terms of appeal because they're all over the place. Callaway has a 51% stake in topgolf and has a ton of other investments.

He didn’t play KFT finals, and he would almost never have to because of his play on the Euro tour.

He’ll get plenty of sponsor invites this coming season. Finishing 126-150 on the fed ex gives you conditional status which is at least 20 events during a season

Fleetwood skipped the KFT playoffs. He earned his conditional status for the PGA Tour by finishing in the 126 to 150 category on the FEC points list.

I thought there was a limit on sponsor exemptions (for some reason 5 sticks out in my head).

Unlimited exemptions per year current for PGA Tour members. 7 for non tour members. Fleetwood is also eligible for the 2022 Masters based on his current world ranking.

Abe is just woods and putter apparently, he was already using an Epic and Odyssey so those Muira’s stay in the bag which is cool.

Crazy about Scott especially after they made him those blades. He was trying every Titleist driver combo in the world the past year though.

Scott stopped wearing a Titleist hat at the start of 2021.

Adam Scott now with Titleist is a tough one to take. Between late 2000 and the mid 2010’s he was, with the exception of Tiger, my favourite golfer. I liked him when I was a kid because he bagged all Titleist everything. It was strange seeing him last year without a Titleist hat but at least he was still on staff…now that that that is not even the case - yeah, difficult to picture.

In the age of social media I think a lot of us are kind of lost when it comes to gauging the marketing value of certain players.

Adam Scott is a great example. We middle-aged guys all know and respect him and have mostly positive vibes around him, which clouds our view of his relative value. I think we generously overrate him.

In terms of moving the marketing needle, he's way closer to Fred Couples than Colin Morikawa.

I was thinking the same thing while reading the thread about Jimmie Walker. He had some really good seasons but it's been a while. He never had a really dominant streak when he was the one to beat. When we saw his best golf he was playing out of his mind and it was inevitable that he'd come back to earth. From a marketing standpoint he probably rates the same as Tommy Two Gloves.

The people putting out contract offers have incredible metrics, again thanks to social media. They know who the public is interested in.

Eh no, on the bolded part. However I would put him in the Charley Hoffman/Keegan Bradley/Justin Rose-type camp. Solid steady Eddy great players, have some name appeal, but haven't done anything noteworthy in quite some time.

Once Adam Scott gets busted for solicitation of a sex worker we can talk about more Two-Glove similarities 😉

Funny, I think it was Charlie Hoffmann's name I was trying to conjure for my analogy and I ended up on TTG instead!
