Bought the 50 degree cbx zipcore and have a 54 cbx 2. I really like both. I go back and forth which I like more. Can’t go wrong either way

They’re great gap wedges because they’re versatile, can hit so many different shots. And you can miss it a little and still get the distance. A forgiving gap wedge is a good friend to have.

Just took my Vokey SM9 54 degree wedge out of the bag and replaced with the CBX Zipcore 54. The sole grind on this wedge is perfect for sand shots heavy rough and even tight lies around the green. If you play varying types of sand from hard packed to fluffy the CBX works wonders. On 3/4 to full shots from the fairway this club is shorter than my Vokey and I cant seem to keep shots from riding up the face so I do not get consistent distance. Instead I  take a half swing on those shots with my Vokey 50 degree wedge. Small workaround due to fantastic around the green play with the CBX which is due to the versatile sole grind, similar to the grind on my ZX5 irons. CBX does not have that great feel of the Vokey but certainly performs well on difficult lies, deep rough and sand shots. If you struggle from the bunkers give these a try, you don't need to open them up you can play the face square and they gilde thru the sand.

Bringing up this thread again - the CBX Zipcores are on sale here, and I currently play with RTX-4's (50,54,58). Happy with my wedge game, but could do with a little more bounce so wanted to ask the question if the CBX's distance wise would be a match for match, or do they go a tad bit farther. My 50 is my 110yd (100m) full swing club, and really the only distance I would give my wedges a full swing as anything 90yds and less I'm playing partial depending on what the course is giving me (pin, wind, greens, moisture etc.). I do a lot of chipping and my 58 is mainly used to play to shortsided pins or pop up over a hazard.

Thanks in advance.

They seemed to go a bit further for me, not significant and it could be chalked up to more confidence. But it's not like you couldn't adjust to them quickly.

Like any wedge/iron, regardless of what's stamped on it, they should be adjusted to fit your gapping

Thanks - agree with your last sentence as gapping is crucial for me below my PW. I've been playing 50 degrees as a gap for ages as my PW is 46 in the set, and that's my guide as it's hard to try out stuff where I live. Also, I don't trust wedge fitting indoors off of mats, so through my own stubborness, I would prefer to try outside. I can't afford to try both the 50 and 52 to see where the gapping lies, and I would like one wedge I can use for a full swing below my PW.

No doubt. Cleveland should look at adding the grind of the CBX to the upcoming replacement of the RTX. Like you said, it’s perfect from the rough, sand, AND tight lies. I think Cleveland blew it with the marketing and commercials, but these are great wedges for every level of player.

What I found was that due to the higher cg and grooves they do fly a touch further because they launch lower on full shots and don’t “float” like other can. Also there was hardly any distance drop off on toe or heel strikes. If Cleveland could get these into players hands they would sell a ton.

I didn’t find them go further than my RTX Zipcore. Just much more consistent and versatile. The CBX are much better out of the rough and bunker, yet still very playable of fwy and tight lies. They absolutely nailed it with the design and grind on these wedges.

The mishits on full swings definitely go further. Good strikes go about the same

I would agree with this.  I don’t find them any longer than my previous Callaway Jaws Full Toe, just more consistent distance when you miss the sweet spot.

Very good out of most every lie I have been in.

Feel is very good and they spin the ball well.

They match up well with my PXG Gen4 0311XP irons.

Gen4 0311XP are one of the best irons I have played.

The last set I played that I liked as much were the old Ping G25.

Lots of sets since then have been in the bag but 0311XP look like they may be a long term resident.

Lol, before I bought my Gen3’s I played g25 irons for over 10 years…

I replaced my Titleist T300 sets 43 PW with a 44 degree CBX Zipcore because I wasn't happy with the lack of spin and excessive height the sets wedge exhibited.  Gapping is a non issue, as I very, very seldom hit any wedge full swing, but the CBX is a tad longer on the full swing then the T300. TP5X's and Vice Pros now stop like a droppped cat. When my 50 degree RTX Gap wedge comes due for replacement, I will most likely go with a CBX again as I seldom hit that with the face opened or closed to any significant degree. As far as sand and lob wedges, I will have to try a CBX at the range, opening it up and hitting low spinners etc before seeing if it could replace my RTX sand Vokey lob wedges.

How different is the grind from the cbx full face.

The grind on the full face wedges are similar to the CBX zips higher lofted wedges but have a touch more heel and toe relief.

I have a 52* CBX and 56* CBX2, I'm a good wedge player, I use the 52* for 90+% of shots inside 100 yards.

I have lost no touch around the greens to the plethora of blade type wedges I have used over the years, they are just terrific golf clubs.

To be honest the CBX zips actually feel softer than my RTX Zips did. Not sure if it’s the TPU on the back or not, but they definitely feel softer to me.

How do you like the zipcore vs the CBX2? Can’t find too much to sway me away from my current CBX2 wedges. Worth moving from CBX2 to CBX zipcore?

I find the ZipCore CBX to be heavier in the head compared to the CBX2

I can feel the head of the club throughout the swing

I like that

That to me is the biggest difference between them

I still have my CBX2 in the 58* because it is a full face wedge

Until the ZipCore CBX comes out in a full face, I am keeping the CBX2

Feeling heavier not based on swing weight right? Just the mass of the head? I’ve heard mixed things about the full face CBX so I never entertained it. I assume you like it since it’s staying in the bag?
