Best wedges you ever owned?

Up until a few months ago, my answer would have been either Mizuno S18 (wedges that have performed best for me) or Vega VW06/VW10 (wedges that felt best).

Then I put the Edel SMS in the bag.  They feel like proper forged wedges, but I think its the grind that sets this apart.  The 48* V-grind has been the best club in my bag since I put it in the bag.

Is the camber on the JP wedges really game changing or more just good marketing?

Now are you talking about the James Patrick wedges or the old Wilson Joe Phillips wedges? I know nothing about the James Patrick wedges. All my JP Wilson wedges have no sole camber but are heavy and have a great feel

Edel SMS. I have been playing golf for 36 years. I have tried them all. Based on the reviews here nad elsewhere I gave the 58* V grind a try and then after about four rounds and short game pratice ordered the 54. The bounce on these are just perfect for my swing. My short game has always been the strength of my game. I am very much a feel player. The moveable weight is not a gimmick. It actually works. The feel is great since they are forged. They have great spin and a great ball flight. This is my first experience with Edel. I can't say enough about their staff and customer support.

I’m a huge fan of my 52* SMS C-Grind so far.  Don’t have enough seat time with it yet to say it’s better than my old 588s though, but I played those 588s for a darn long time.  I have high hopes for the Edel, but the 588s set quite the bar for me.

Though I still have an old rusty Titleist 56o SW that I really like, I have to give the honours to my recently purchased Cleveland RTX full face wedges:

896698965_CLUBS-ClevelandRTXFullFacewedges.jpg.1a6b5bc3873768eade752bc5a7eeda7f.jpg

Am in particular glad that I bought the 58o - I have a RTX588 60o and while that is an excellent club as well, I am just that bit more confident hitting the 58o with a fuller swing.

Honourable mention has to go to an oldie - I just love the heavy feel - it is great for chipping:

Just retired my Miura Tour Milled wedges (52 and 58) after almost two years, probably the best wedges I ever owned next to the original Cleveland TA 588 chrome wedges (56 and 60) from the 90's.

i had same wedges and loved them. However I since replaced them with Artisan wedges and they are just as good if not better

I'll preface this by saying I'm basically brand new to specialized wedges. Up until a couple years ago I used wedges from goodwill/family friends that I was just trying to fill out my set.

Since then I've used some warrior custom golf wedges, a Cleveland 588 rtx cb 2.0, a 64° Solus, and the new Cleveland CBX Zipcore, so small sample size. I've only got 3 rounds on it but I'd have to say the CBX Zipcore is the favorite. Once I sorted out my chipping woes after the first round it's performed very well.

By far, the best wedges I ever played were SCOR 4161.  I was a bit late to the game, got introduced by a friend of mine and they morphed into Ben Hogan Co. a couple years later but I continued to find new wedges for a few more years on eBay.  Their V-sole, trajectory weighting and being individually designed for each loft was way ahead of the pack.

Chikara V1's are the best grind and have grooves that last.  I still play mine too.  Proto 52 and production 57.  But I'm lucky that I know Carlton personally and the 57 got a little extra love from the man himself.  The 52 was perfect as is, as I don't manipulate the face like I do with the 57.

I bought my first set (all-three) of Proto's from Carl, including the last 60 he had. After considering what you and Reid were saying about how Carl had worked on your wedges (prior to Chikara), and had designed some the the Gauge Design wedges, I thought it was worth taking a chance on Carl. One of the best gambles I've ever taken.

Prior to this I was playing the Zodia KM-Tour US Spec and loved everything about them, except durability. I was going through one or two sand and pitching wedges per season. Towards '07-'08 they were starting to get scarce, at least new ones were.

I have enough Proto's to last me for another few seasons although I'm always on the lookout for more, in case someone wants to get rid of one . . .

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Not a fair answer, but... my Artisan wedges are hands down the best clubs I've ever put in my hands.  If you are in a position, contact Mike and Jamie, and get on the list to get a set.

I would have to agree!  I know they are expensive, but boy was it worth the time and money to do a fitting and get 3 of them made for me based off that.  I do not consider myself to be a "good" wedge player by any means.  But some of the shots I'm able to hit with my 55DS and 59RDS are just stupid good.  Artisan knows what they are doing when it comes to wedges.

Cally X Forged Raw were my favorites

Cleveland 588 Diadic 51* was a favorite in the 90's

Probably holed more chips and pitches with that club than any other I ever owned.

Always played Mizuno, except for a TA 588 60* I had back in the day.  Still have that somewhere. I'm absolutely loving my new Zip Cores.  Those and the Betti's were my top choices, but I went Cleveland because there are virtually no shaft choices from Bettinardi at the moment.

Cleveland TA 588 51* RTG. Can't tell you how many times that bailed me out getting up and down. My whole game practically revolved around that one club. The grooves unfortunately took a daily beating during HS golf practice. Wish I had the foresight to have bought backups. Nothing's compared since.

Yes i had that in black/gun metal and it was one of my favorite clubs.

Still bagging them.

OMG!!! I played Chikara's maybe 15 years ago. They were great wedges - hand forged by this Japanese guy in Hawaii (if I remember right). Flash from the past (though in two years the grooves will no longer be conforming).
